Remember mother telling me how she worked at Howard and Bulloughs in Accy assembling part of "Tail-End Charlie for the Lancaster bombers as a girl of about 18 when WW11 started I used to work with a bloke who’d been a tail gunner on Lancasters. He could tell some stories ! The one about how they got attacked by an ME 163 rocket fighter was really funny. He saw the speck in the distance and thought it was an ordinary prop powered aircraft so he just kept scanning for other aircraft. When he finally looked back again the ME was right on top of them. Luckily the German pilot didn’t fire, maybe his guns jammed. He was shaking for the rest of the day. Howard & Bulloughs we’re in a large conglomerant with Tweedale & Smalley of Rochdale and Platt Brothers of Oldham. When times got bad in the textile engineering game in early 1960’s one of them had to go and it was Tweedales. About 1,500 people lost their jobs. The other two followed them eventually. I played as a young player on Tweedale’s pitch. It was brilliant, they had first class facilities. 1 Quote

arbitro Posted March 12 Posted March 12 For any Rugby League aficionados there is an excellent three part documentary currently on Sky Sports Action called We are Wigan Warriors. It covers last season when they win four trophies and gives a great insight into how a successful sports club runs efficiently. The psychology used to motivate the players is so innovative. Quote

I haven’t seen the programme because I haven’t got Sky but Rugby League has always been forwards thinking and innovative. The treatment of the match officials is just one area we could learn from. 1 Quote

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted March 18 Author Moderation Lead Posted March 18 Watched the first 2 episodes of Adolescence. Quality. Can't wait to finish it now! 1 Quote
RoverDom Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Good series adolescence. The fact that each episode is a single shot adds to the brilliance of it. I found myself watching it marvelling at the choreography of it all as well as the story line. Especially the second episode, set in a school with hundreds of child extras and done all in a single take is crazy. 1 Quote
