Do you believe it is "better for the club" to start off a panic then allow an hysterical discussion, largely consisting of anti-owner comments of varying intensity, on a forum which the owners allegedly read? Rather than offer some limited details with sources removed?

We did consider that question for quite some time. But we saw it was already being discussed elsewhere and figured it was worth discussing here (but not yet news worthy).

confused as to why you would start a thread on this issue, when you are unwilling to say any sources or any FACTS to me it looks to me that people like to act in the know !!!!

I'm getting tired of explaining this. Nobody involved with the first post in this thread is directly involved with any hypothetical discussion between Venky's and potential buyers, so we can't report and FACTS. All we can do is report what rumors we're hearing from reputable sources. We outlined this at the start of this and it's been reiterated ad infinitum.

The other option is we ignore it, wait for somebody else to post, then be accused yet again of being on Venky's payroll and trying to bury news. As always, damned if we do, damned if we don't.

i think K&N are poopstairing cos there best "sources" have gone cold on them due to the leaked list debacle.

Whilst somebody will trot out the "Nicko is just trying to sell newspapers" line (despite Nicko repeatedly saying there is no reportable story here yet) that last thing we want and need is more traffic and more attention.

I'm begining to understand how Alan feels, we try to keep people informed, we try not to keep these rumors between little cliques who communicate via PM and when we do, we get lambasted for it.

Pretty sure venky's will already know about all this coming out. They have not come out and said anything before, why would they now. If there is a buyer, the buyer will want it quiet and out of the papers. As will venky's. If This is not the case, will they want the publicity, that will still come out about not having much money, and all the promises they cane out with at the start.

How could Venkys get less than a year into their ownership of the club, having not really spent much in terms of buying players & then decide it wasnt for them!?!?!

If everything we mentioned had to be backed up with sources and proof, the transfer section wouldn't have any mention of Baez and Andersen, let alone the other 50 odd players the national press have linked us to WITHOUT NAMING THEIR SOURCES ! (Oooh, this caps lark does make you feel better). Are we damaging the club by peddling these tabloid lies designed to make the club look like liars if they only sign 2 of the 50? No, of course not.

If we'd reported this as NEWS in the NEWS section, rather than plainly labelling it as rumour in a discussion are, I could see some of you may have a point. But we didn't. We took the responsible route.

TV money paid over the course of the year and, especially in Rovers' case, substantial amounts of it spent on the running costs of the club.

You should know what damage even a word can do round here. Make your job a little easier and don't tell people whether it's rumour or true.

I don't know how many times I've said this, but I am not Venkys's PR man. I don't work for Venkys. Hell, I don't work for anybody because I'm still in college! Not even a part-time job, for that matter. Unless you count drawing Japanese comics as a job.

Agreed. Alan is a valuable poster who is more often correct than not. I also enjoy his posts (mostly) and his Mirror articles (online). Though I think it a fair characterization that he can act the drama queen on occassion.

I don't believe they are trying to sell, If that was the case they would have sold Samba already and pocketed the money, I also don't think they have come to the conclusion to sell the club only a month after trying to break the bank to keep Phil Jones. This is only based on my logic and obviously not on any insider information.

One flaw in your scenario scenario. Samba's contract is an asset. If I were a buyer I would likely protest the stripping of the club prior to sale and, if it did not end, withdraw my bid.

Kind of like a homeowner ripping out the pool with an offer on the table. The prospective buyer might take offense.

Three possible scenarios

Logical:

1) Venkys have realised they cannot fund their intentioned assault on the top 6 and have been trying to secure a 'partner' who will add extra funding to the project. This would possibly explain both the shift in transfer kitty and people being approached to invest (as opposed to buy out) which triggers the 'for sale' rumours.

Culture:

2) IF the Venkys were selling - which would result in a HUGE loss of face and credibility both personally and globally to their core business. Is it possible that another wealthy Asian family might take a punt on the club, just to damage the Rao's pride even further?

3) In the next 14 days our overlords pull off the signings of Witsel, Fabiano, Onuha and Bentley and everything in the Venky garden is rosy once more...

I vote 3. I don't think Venkys are quitters. They've made mistakes, yes. But I don't see them cutting and running.

Though it may explain their, in my opinion, fanatical attachment to Kean. Hypothetically, they don't want to buy him out and would prefer his contract become the new owners issues to deal with.

If another Ali Syed character rode over the horizon, would Venky's think twice about selling to them? There wouldn't be any comebacks on Venky's, would there?

I assume if venkys want to sell the potential buyers won't need to jump through the walker trusts tight demands ? Just the sloppy premier league ones, thus leaving us at the mercy of the gods.

I don't know. Normally you can only sell the rights you have. So if you don't have the right to remove Jack Walker's statute, for example, you can't sell it. And if you are obligated to pay money, you can't escape the promise you made to the original owner (unless a separate deal is entered into with the original owner).

Hypotethetically, if I were Venkys and wanted to escape potential liability to the Walker Trust, the first thing I would do is pay off the debt. The Phil Jones money should cover most of it. It might even make the club a more attractive asset to a potential buyer.

Philipl you say you hope this rumour is true and they sell I suppose you will still think it was a good idea to sell when we are relegated next season also if there was a new owner coming in think how much it would put us back they would have to find a sponsor players would need to be brought in with not long left in the transfer window the original plans would have to be scrapped about branding in India we would have to prove ourselves all over again & new marketing strategies would need to be implemented & then most importantly of all new owners bring new ideas certain staff jobs would be at risk people like P.Hunt would be wondering if he still would have a job it would create so much turmoil we would definitely be guaranteed relegation candidates with noc chance of ever recovering I firmly agree with Nicko we need Venkys to stay on board for the long term deliver on the promises that are still achievable pull their fingers out make some signings & bring some stability to the club otherwise in the turmoil players like Chris Samba will walk away far too easily we need them to stick to their pronises instead of hoping they do a runner.
