[Archived] Rumour: Venky's To Sell?

Recommended Posts

Is it being 'stubborn?' though?

Some people thought venky's were making wrong moves 6 months ago and said so. The very same people think things have not improved... and they say so. Is that an 'agenda'?

If so, call me Mr. Stubborn Screwdriver.

Something's come out today about Venky's wanting to start a new football club in India called Blackburn Rovers Pune Football Club.

I'll be honest, that doesn't sound like the sort of thing a selling company would do, given the rights to the name will be transferred in the sale. Them not confirming nor denying as Kamy said earlier, it's concerning. They shouldn't be doing this to us fans.

The clue was when I said IMO ;)

There are a number of posters who had issues with Venkys from the beginning IMO, why I dont know? Because they weren't Ali Syed, pure guesswork on my part.

Question whoever you like, the word agenda can be interpreted in a number of ways and I used it ONCE- look at the response, whats your agenda :P

i bet it is. :D

I'm one of those people and have taken serious flak for it.

You want to know why? Because since day one nothing has suggested to me they were able to run a football club in the biggest league in the world.

1) Their main company 'Venky's India' makes £10m profit a year (and that was a record), no where near enough for them to have the kind of cash to make us competitive.

2) They are not recognized either individually or as a family by Forbes as being billionaires as is claimed by many posters.

3) There is no proof they can build a successful business, it was the father and mother that set up the company and made it what it is today, the Raos and Mrs D just inherited it.

4) The messages they put out in the first few weeks of ownership were mixed to say the least.

That is the way I saw it and still do. It's not an 'agenda' but an analysis that has sadly turned out to be a correct one.

It's funny really because instead of people like me and a few others who posted our worries in the early days being apologized to by the blind optimists that gave us hell for being right, we are being protrayed as people with agenda who just got lucky.

Well I'm a Rover and certainly don't feel lucky or glad to be proved correct so far, I would have loved to have been wrong.

Nice one and my thoughts exactly, I went to the West Ham game following the sacking of Sam, the atmosphere and the feeling I had at Ewood was not the one which graced the finest forward line of Douglas, Dobing, Dougan, Vernon and Mcloed, nor the one of the 1995 season, it was dire, we looked like a club in crisis and unfortunately we still are, I and many others want the best for Rovers, whoever the owners are but incompetance and naivity I find I am unable to cope with and thats what our owners have dished up!

Too deep for me TB&W.... shirt undone to the naval and that bloody pony tail was enough for me.

Rem there's only one thing that is found under every ponies tail. ;)

Their main company is not Venkys India it is Venkatesh Hatcheries which is private and not public listed. They also have numerous other businesses:

2) They are not recognized either individually or as a family by Forbes as being billionaires as is claimed by many posters.

Who makes up Venkys London? Do you know, Nicko who has been spot on with the takeover said that collectively they are billionaires.

3) There is no proof they can build a successful business, it was the father and mother that set up the company and made it what it is today, the Raos and Mrs D just inherited it.

Mrs D is a very good business woman:

Gillette and Hicks have owned successful sporting franchises, what did they do at Liverpool? What do the Man City owners know about football? 'Even a broken clock is right twice a day"

Well I'm a Rover and certainly don't feel lucky or glad to be proved correct so far, I would have loved to have been wrong.

Nothing has happened thus far that cannot be rectified in the future- thats where we differ in approach.

Spot on. From the prices floating around so far this window, I cannot blame them for their hand sitting. Chances are the clubs selling the players are also doing a bit of hand sitting, asking for crazy amounts of money because they know they have time before the window closes.

I am not sure how many players we have enquired about, quite a few from the lists circulating I would imagine. We haven't signed any of them probably because the clubs want more than we are willing to pay. However, how many of those players who we are supposedly interested in have gone elsewhere so far? Is it just Pablo Piatti?

im well aware, that a new takeover would probably destabilize our club. Im also well aware, that venky´s have time to rectify some of the damage. that has been done.

But i gotta ask, what is it, that makes you believe, that they will right their wrongs..?

what have they so far done, that makes you believe in them.?

in short, how have they made our club and team better.?

Sorry imy but I have totally debunked that Daily Mail hagiography.

How so the actual information that they picked up on was from a different (can't remember at the moment but will at some point!) and the bloke spent a month in India and went through their books and spoke to people etc, the most detailed analysis anyone has done on them.

The two brothers own over 70 top of the range motors worth at least 20 million pounds, they also give millions of pounds to charities every year as well as feed 30k people a day, who knows how much property etc they own- Nicko also said collectively the group are billionaires-that's the most credible source confirming it.

I don't give a flying feck about their 200 motorcars. They don't have a clue how to run a football club. Unfortunately they're at mine.

Accepted it is a rumour but it makes sense.

Let's look at the gap between promise and delivery. When they bought Rovers:

- Venky's talked about global branding

- Venky's talked about Rovers being India's football club

- Venky's talked of naming rights at Ewood

- Venky's talked about fantastic sponsorships

- Venky's talked about leasing players

- Venky's talked about a wonderful new horizon which wasn't about playing for PL survival on the last day of the season

Then Venky's talked about marquee signings, GBP40m to spend this summer, Champions League, deserving a top 8 finish and a Cup win and so on....

What has happened? Nothing

Many posters have correctly pointed out that as owners they have every right to run the club like a bunch of eccentric four year olds with bizarre firings and hirings but even in Pune they must surely heard the gales of laughter from the football world.

If I were sitting in Pune I would be feeling very very disappointed and be looking at the financial numbers including season ticket sales (I do have the 30 June number and it is scary) and be seriously worried that the families' savings had met a bottomless black hole. A dispassionate glance at the fixture list which sees four top six clubs visit Ewood in succession must fill them with dread at what the League table will look like after Chelsea have been on 5 November.

I think they would be reluctant sellers but deep down Mrs D would be delighted and relieved to see the back of us.

Superb post Phil and a way to deflect the brickbats you get on here from time to time.

Hopefully there should be something from Venky's tomorrow regarding these rumours.

You talking about the Cryer tweet saying their should be an interesting line tomorrow? Or something from Venkys PR which you have heard?

I would think that they will either confirm or deny these rumors.

Andy - we have to take whatever they say at face value.

So they're staying. Great. Is it Venky's PR or Venky's issuing the statement Kamy? Is it Bro 1 or Bro 2? Or Mrs Desai? Or is it Kentao? Or maybe the Dep Chief Exec? Or maybe the new Secretary? Nah, it won't be the latter two will it.

I'll take whatever they say at face value and not give a flying one.

Not your fault Kamy. Sorry. As you may have seen I'm not in a happy place tonight with BRFC.

Dorris May: Tea lady

I look forward to what they have to say. They've been quiet on the transfer front, which makes a change! That 2 week deadline they set is getting awfully close!

I heard that Doris has also gone to Man City for having an opinion.

New owners not like PG Tips then?

You would think with the way this club is being run they would have liked the cards. Pretty much like the new boardroom I'd imagine.

What's the source for all this?
