[Archived] Rumour: Venky's To Sell?

Recommended Posts

Someone from the club needs to comment on this as a matter of urgency. The story is spreading quickly via the internet and our already flimsy credibility is going to be shattered completely. How are we meant to attract players with this lot going on.

cryer doesnt say he knows anything about it though just the rumour we have heard

alan nixon has some magical communication method with venkys and seems to know they are unhappy

coincidence he hasnt said anything like this before the rumour was produced?

Everyone has been saying it's a rumour including Nicko. How do you know Cryer has heard the same rumour we have heard?

......especially if Paul genuinely has heard names.

Names have been kicking around for months, some of them make sense, others don't. I think it was mid to late February when some stories surfaced and have been coming and going ever since. These came from a variety of different people but it's impossible to be sure of their validity though I believe the people with the information are genuine.

There is one name I want to hear mentioned but stubbornly it never appears!!!!

The difficulty with all rumours is no matter how measured one is there are always those who accuse the messenger of having an agenda. So no point in attracting any grief on here.

Look at Phil Jones, posted in January he would be sold. Got slaughtered from various quarters for this. I knew Utd were not prepared to bid till summer. What colour shirt is wearing now?

If I had discovered and posted this rumour then no doubt many would have piled in poo-pooing.

As it is brfcs news has posted it and put the site's credibility on the line. On that basis, I think everyone should accept that the collective of people who put so much of their own time and money into running this web site must feel there is real substance behind this.

I believe the story (to use journalise) is developing but without anything concrete in terms of confirmations and denials so for now and the foreseeable future it remains and will remain a rumour- a very nice rumour.

And to answer questions as to whether X has heard the same as Y and the same as Z has heard, there are communication devices like telephones, mobiles, emails, messaging, whippets and pigeons.

As far as I'm concerned, there are only three places that can confirm this. The club, Venky's and the buyers and if there is any shred of truth, they are going to say absolutely nothing. If there is no truth in it whatsoever then I can't see they bothering to acknowledge it either. So whilst we've had a few bits of collaborating evidence, I can't see it ever being confirmed.

Am I reading too much into this or did you just confirm that there were buyers?

What a great rumour for increasing traffic to the site. One that cannot be confirmed or denied. And Whippets as a means of communication???

Believe me we do not need to make up stories or generate rumours to increase traffic, the site is running at near full capacity as it is.

Wasn't suggesting you hadn't genuinely heard the names although I realise that's what i put! More was wondering if the names you had heard were genuine contenders to buy us or were wishful thinking on the part of whoever your source is, as sometimes happens. You've answered that, thanks

Although new here, as as I am concerned you are doing a very good job and there is absolutley no need for the childish inuendo that you have mentioned this to increase visitor numbers to the site.

As somebody who works nights and was reading Glenns tweets in the middle of last night I think you can take it from me "increasing traffic" was the last thing on his mind:-)

I got it, its fine. Whilst we welcome new visitors, the current hardware is creaking enough under the present load, so the last thing we actually needs is more people hammering F5.

It actually increases our costs rather than make us anything.

For those doom-merchants that feel we're as good as relegated if we don't buy a single player, would we not have been destined for relegation under the Trust anyway in the long-term?

1) The Trust would have had to sell Phil Jones still to fund new purchase (possibly at less than the £20m+ we got).

2) Phil Jones would still have wanted to leave this summer.

2) Samba would still have wanted to leave this summer.

3) Hoilett is unlikely to have played under Allardyce and wouldn't have been any more likely to want to stay than he is now.

4) It is unlikely that we would have been able to afford the RSC and JJ loan deals.

5) Rochina and Formica (however good or bad) are unlikely to have been signed.

We have been in similar positions before where we've sold our best players in the summer and not re-invested all that money. How is this any different?

I've been hearing rumours for a few months now. Various names mentioned, who I thought of mentioning, but there's no point. That's all they are, rumours.

But. If Venky's are looking at selling, - and if there are interested parties, then now would be the perfect time for the buyers. Venky's are committed to another 4 or 5 transfer windows @ 5m/window investment? A buyer could make an offer for the club at a much lower figure now, than they could once the Venky financial committment has finished. Now would be the perfect time for buyer and seller.

Venky's could give the club away and save that further investment. Maybe that's what's happening.

Eh? The fact that the club is seemingly in complete crisis with no experienced football people left makes it a little bit different than 12 months ago.

Beyond full capacity as we've proved on several occasions. Plans are afoot, but upgrading to new hardware means a LOT of work behind the scenes, work we don't have really have time for and are reluctant to pay somebody to do it (but that may be the best option). Sadly it's nowhere near as simple as just ftping a few files around like is was when we were small.

Think you have been here long enough cruz to know that Glenn etc. are in mo way money grabbers or sensation builders.

No, but I'm willing to acknowledge I can be a bit of a drama queen at times .......

As somebody who works nights and was reading Glenns tweets in the middle of last night I think you can take it from me "increasing traffic" was the last thing on his mind:-)

... and 3 am this morning when I was pulling my hair out was one of those times. ;)

Somebody said above you can help by clicking the banners (or even better, buying stuff via them), well google's adsense rules say we can't encourage you to click those banners, so I can't condone that, but I think it's fair to say the advertising revenue from the banners is currently our biggest form of income, but it currently only just about covers the costs.
