The Daily Mirror is today reporting that Witsel will sign for Benfica for a fee of £7 million. The Rovers were only prepared to bid £4 million which was clearly insufficient. Looks like it's time to draw up another list of targets in a lower price band.

I'm baffled...

Surely Kentaro would have given some guidance on the asking price?

Knowing this then the Roas/Rovers will be knowledgable bidders

So is this the Rao's bargaining strategy - to go in well under the asking price and then see how negotiable the other party are?

As far as I can tell Witsel hasn't been sold to anybody yet - negotiations are still open - we took one track in the bidding process and somebody else has obviously/possibly gone in with another approach - in the long run which is most effective for the club? Just pay what ever price is requested or try & haggle?

May be the Rao approach is typical of their culture? Does this make it wrong?

I also think there may be some mischief making in the way all this is being reported

"somebody' at the Mirror seems to be quite happy that we may miss out here

Possibly the same 'somebody' who has described the Roas as 'eccentric' for putting a price tag of 12 Mill on Kalinic - in one breath we're accused of selling for nothing (P.Jones) and not even attempting to hold on to out young prospects (S.Nzonzi) - but then we get slated for effectively putting a clear 'F**K off' sign on Kalinic?

Aren't we effectively just doing the same with Kalinic as Schalke have just done to us with J Jones? But we're labelled eccentric...

seems there is a bitter little scotsman out there and were now seeing his true colours

That's the problem we currently face with moderating at the moment.

Don't bother moderating and threads become unreadable. Do and everyone feels we're censoring them and the remaining posts seem horribly out of context.

I've been struggling with an idea for some time now. People always use the pub as an analogy for a forum, but what happens in a pub is as it gets busier, smaller groups start to form, the loud kids head off into one corner with their alcopops and the old giffers settle down in another with their mild for a game on dominoes. Sure people from the two groups may end up chatting at the bar, but whilst their is lots of common ground between the two groups, people can't be in two places at once, so spend more time with one group or the other. The problem is, on a messageboard everyone CAN be in two places at once, so they obnoxious loud pub bore that you'd normally ignore is CONSTANTLY in EVERYONE'S face (as is the grumpy old timer, and the kid that kicks off because you didn't want "winner stays on" at pool.

They problem is I can't think of a actual solution to this that doesn't result in cliquey elitism.

But posters can be 'ignored'. The facility is available.

Individual posts can be reported too. Maybe the mods should focus on reported posts and take strong action if appropriate - either against the reported poster or the reporter if it's frivolous. Trying to mod every post on every thread must be a nightmare. It's no surprise that sometimes they make an incorrect judgement.

The +/- button need some work because it could be a useful self mod tool, though I understand you can't change this yet.

Some suggestions:

- Show both scores

- Change to 'Like' and 'Dislike' to better describe the post.

- Make people accountable for their choice rather than anonymous.

(either a hover function which shows the poster name who scored)

- Limit the number of ratings a poster can make per day/week.

Specific groups do kind of form with the different forums and threads - particularly ICBINF. Although I understand there are a lot of similar threads at the minute due to the amount of tension surrounding Rovers at the minute.

All this said, you do still get the few oddballs who sit chuckling at the mayhem they create cloacked by their anonymous keyboard persona (I sometimes had this image of Nicko if I'm honest) but the only way these people can be effectively dealt with is if the mods have more time and posters are encouraged to be more responsible.

As a parting suggestion to my off topic post, how about specific threads or privileges for posters who post under their real name?

Create a thread called 'Curmudgeons Corner' or something of that ilk. Make it strictly members only, offer said invitatations to theno,Jim,Philip and Mercerman then leave to simmer.

Hey good idea. 'Curmudgeons Corner' I like that. :tu: We could have a Knobheads Nook for you and your mates too yeti dog.

Stopped his childish sulking has he.

If you are not allowed to reply to halfwits by calling them halfwits then it is time for a break.

And when you have already said the next deleted post will be your last, then you try to stand by that.

I posted a few minutes ago to clear up and understandable piece of confusion.

I won't be doing any running commentaries from now on.

No wish to end up sounding as mental as the events currently going on.

Ta.

Shame you feel that you are above the rules of the site Nicko.

I thought 'halfwit' was actually a compliment in the case of the poster in question.

So it's ok for some dick to have a go, but I can't say anything back?

Yeah, right.

You'd be amazed at how many posts we've removed from people having a go at you as well Alan. It works both ways.

Not going to litter this thread with the moderation debate.

Thank you for clarifying the rather mystifying kalanic situation. £12m is completely unrealistic, we should take what we can. £4m doesn't seem unreasonable, I fail to see what he has done in the last 2 seasons to justify an increase in value.

Yeah, right.

Nobody wants to read bickering between individual posters therefore those kinds of posts are deleted. Makes the messageboard slightly more readable. Thats my take on it anyway. Wasn't as though a warning was handed out or anything of the sort.

Not quite sure what all the fuss is about to be perfectly honest. Certainly doesn't warrant vowing never to post again or threatening to do so if a post go's amiss.

Can we get this thread back on topic? Mods, you need to tighten up with the rubbish posted, it's very hard to read this thread now. About 2% of it is transfer related. Thanks

But that would mean even more of nicko's posts would be deleted ;)

But seriously, there is a "NICKO" thread so mods can we move the lats few posts (including this one) there?
