Why? Why not Brockhall? So United can keep an eye on emerging talent?
Majiball Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Allegedly Steve Kean doesn't Like having the youth coaches showing him up on the training pitch. Demotion to the 18's was once a punishment now it's a pleasure. In reality I have no idea, but I wouldn't say no to training here.

Mike Graham Posted July 10, 2011 Author Posted July 10, 2011 Thanks, I will try and get round to scanning the article if I make it into the office this week.
Kelbo Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Last weeks Manchester Jewish Telegraph (6 July - sorry no web link) reports that Rovers Academy are now training 3 days per week at the newly opened Henry Guterman centre at South Manchester Sports Centre. Why? Why not Brockhall? The under 16s and under 18s have only been training at Brockhall last week, though some clubs do use different venues for pre academy lads but I can assure you that the Academy, that is 16 to 18 year olds were all at Brockhall last week.
Mike Graham Posted July 10, 2011 Author Posted July 10, 2011 The article: "THE stars came out on Sunday at the official opening of South Manchester Sports' Club £1.3 million Henry Guterman centre. More than 400 guests packed out the Gatley-based centre, which is named after the late interfaith activist. Ex-Manchester City footballers including Andy Hinchcliffe, Peter Barnes, Richard Edghill and Paul Simpson took part in a game against a South Manchester XI - the ex-pros ran out 5-0 winners. And former pro Cyrille Regis cut the tape for the official opening. South Manchester chairman Johnny Davis told the Jewish Telegraph: "It was an unbelievable day. "It was difficult to take it all in because there was just so many people there. "The support we have had has been magnificent." Children enjoyed special football games, a face painter, a juggler and a bouncy castle. And Manchester City fans were in heaven as they could have their picture taken with the FA Cup, which their beloved Blues won in May. The centre has been in use since February and its facilities include two short football grass pitches, one all-weather netball pitch, three state-of-the-art 4G all-weather floodlit five-a-side pitches and two all-weather multi-sports pitches. There are also four changing rooms, a referees' changing room, a lounge area and a physiotherapy room. Blackburn Rovers' academy players train at the centre three times a week. Mr Davis said: "People from all walks of life are welcome to use our facilities. "We want people of all faiths to use the centre and I am a big believer in interfaith activities."
cn174 Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Odd! There may be method in the madness though. For the lads who are u16 there's a rule that you can only live 1 hour away drive from the training location. Maybe it being in Manchester allows us to have a bigger catchment - though not much use if you happen to live in Blackburn!!

jumpin' Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I see Rovers clad lads in Wilmslow and at our junior club in Knutsford quite regulary, but I gather they are some sort of coaching staff. Maybe our tentacles for local talent are spreading.
cn174 Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 All right if you live in Coppull though! Aye, but I think my time has past The other possibility is that it is just a satellite site for the academy, there should be quite a few around. Not ours, but I know Man U have one in Preston etc.
