There is a lot of confusion regarding with Ribiero was on trial and/or signed with us. Isn't Bruno the 35 year old manager with Vittoria Setubal, and a former left midfielder? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruno_Ribeiro

Anderson Ribeiro is a 30 year old Brazilian striker playing in the Ukraine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anderson_Ribeiro.

Adriano Leite Ribeiro is the 29 year old Corinthian striker (and basket case). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adriano_Leite_Ribeiro.

António Ribeiro is the 30 year old MLS midfielder from Portugal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Ribeiro

Christian Ribeiro is the Welsh 21 year old Bristol City defender. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Ribeiro.

Pedro Manuel Mendes Ribeiro is the Portuguese 28 year old defender. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Manuel_Mendes_Ribeiro

Pedro Júlio Marques Ribeiro is the Portuguese 32 year old right defender. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_J%C3%BAlio_Marques_Ribeiro.

I doubt we signed Bruno. He's 35 and a manager now, not a player. So which one have we signed?

Apologies if this has been answered and I am simply oblivious.

No he didn't, Chris Samba played for Hertha Berlin (reserves) not exactly B Munich.

Yes sure, but this guy is 28. I'm just wondering about him because he isn't somebody I have seen.

I think - and I stress the word think - that the guy we are signing/or have signed is Bruno de Paula Ribeiro Ingracia from Gremio Prudente. He is a free agent and seems to have spent his career in his native Brazil but not in the top flight. I assume he has a European passport, probably via Portugal, to get round the work permit. I think he's about 28. On the evidence of what I saw at Morecambe I'm not really sure that it's the best use of our limited funds in terms of wages. Salgado is clearly going to be first choice and I would have thought that Emerton would have provided decent cover.

Hi Parsonblue, if you have time, would you mind elaborating on this a bit? Did he strike you as being in any way useful at all? I mean, would you rate his technique? Or did he seem tough in the tackle?

Sorry to pick your brains, but you've seen the chap play and I'm very curious indeed about him. ta!

Thanks, Parsonblue. :tu:

Do you think he'll be up to substitute standards, in a pinch? Otherwise, what is the point?

I think you are in need of another fruity drink.

does this not strike anyone else as mental?

We could have signed a highly rated, young english right back but because he's injured for 6 weeks we've gone for a 28yr old brazilian on a free?

I could understand if we had noone to play there but surely he's only going to back up for salgado? on the face of things this is unbelievably short sighted!

Doesn't make much sense signing this player. We have Salgado who I assume will be first choice, Emerton is a perfectly capable right back (imo he should be starting ahead of Salgado) and then we have Ramm? People I have spoken to (who follow the reserve/youth setup more closely) say he is a decent propsect.

And we shouldnt forget young Adam Henley who can play both right and left full back and has featured in all the pre season games ahead of Ramm (and I rate Ramm highly) so we have players who I feel could push on this year, does seem a strange signing though, he may be quite a decent player, having not seen the lad play, I cant comment.

From what I have seen of Ribeiro he looked tidy on the ball. Sensible passes which went to Rovers players, not given away to the opposition in dangerous areas. However, he followed the left winger inside leaving a very large gap for a left sided player to cross for Accrington to go 1-0 up. Maybe someone should have filled the gap. Maybe he should have stayed in the right back position. A coach or manager should sort this out.

Whether he is the answer remains to be seen. But I think that we are in dire need of signings. Henley and Ramm do not seem ready yet for the defence. Emerton has been played further forward in most friendlies. If Emerton plays fullback who plays right wing with Hoillet out? We are very close to not being able to field a Premier league team. A few key injuries and we will really struggle.

Simply, we needed another fullback.

And this is an area I pinpointed last season, if Rovers played the diamond formation, it does leave the full backs exposed, hence people speaking of Salgado being skinned last year, Salgado was fine in a 4-4-2 its when you get a diamond formation when we become short of protection defensively!

I stated earlier, if we use that system, opposition managers will play us with counter attacking football using loads of width!!

I have no idea what Ribero's history, but maybe he'll be a good signing. Maybe it is a case of ignorance is bliss, but I'll keep an open mind. However, is there a story that we were looking at Clyne instead? Shame we didn't go for him instead.

As for Ramm, he's about 18 isn't he? He has time to develop, and he could always go on loan in the 1st division.

Hmmm. Yeah. Could be a blessing in disguise. Let Ribeiro act as immediate and short term cover for MS, keeping the seat warm until the Ramm is ready to step up.
