Miker Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10303~2395451,00.html "The board of Blackburn Rovers Football Club wishes to clarify its strategy of optimising the current playing squad in a manner which is sustainable and beneficial to the long term interests of the club and its supporters. During the close season there is always a frenzy of transfer rumours linking every club in the land with a diverse range of players and we are no exception. We will not comment on such speculation as it will only lead to further press comment but we can assure our supporters that we will only enter into negotiations with other clubs and agents on terms which are commercially viable and are within the market norms accepted by every other club, as we are sure our supporters would demand and expect. We assure you that we will continue to explore all avenues to improve the squad for the sustainable long-term benefit of the club. We are currently busy exploring the recruitment of a striker and a midfielder - and we fully intend to have both of them in place before the transfer window closes. We will continue to make every effort to bring in the players we feel we need and we ask you, our supporters, to remain patient."

Seggie Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 That is perhaps the most sensible press release by Venky's in nearly 8 months.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 They shouldn't have to release things like this, it's the constant 'me me now now' attitude surrounding some members of our support which has made them say anything at all. It's JULY.
Mattyblue Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I don't have a 'now now now, me me me' outlook. If I thought they actually had money to spend, I would let them get on with it. But they dont, so a statement like that is just fanning the flames.
Iceman Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 They shouldn't have to release things like this, it's the constant 'me me now now' attitude surrounding some members of our support which has made them say anything at all. It's JULY. How often will we have to hear, its only July, still 3 weeks to go, still plenty of time? The season is nearly upon us, we have lost very good player in P Jones, J Jones has left and we could lose Chris Samba. RSC is gone, so is M Diouf and EH Diouf has gone awol. Yet, they release a statement, saying we are after a striker, not strikers, but striker and a midfielder, not midfielders but a midfielder. It takes what 2 months to find 2 players? and by the looks of it, we will be into the first few games, and we might still not have brough those 2 players in. We have a supposed agency assisting us, and yet we cant find any players, even without having to pay any money.
Amo Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Who have Tottenham signed? How about Everton? Bolton? There are plenty of PL clubs who have done precious little in the transfer market. Rovers are no exception. Of course, the difference is those clubs haven't had their owners & management feeding the fans a load of crap. Biggest transfer kitty for sometime? That's why all our targets have slipped through the net and our head is stuck firmly in the bargain bucket?

philipl Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I wonder how Steve Kean feels now about his appearance on Talksport at the end of May? Good job that station and its listeners have the attention span of a gnat and the memory of a lobotomised shrew.
Commondore Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Striker and midfielder = Pavone and Vierinha? Solve the Jermaine Jones and Cedric Mongongu deals and add one quality striker to that and I would be very satisfied with this window.
keaney23 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I find this statement incredibly insulting. This is not what us as fans were promised. I feel completely miss leaded into thinking we would be having the best budget Blackburn has ever seen. Yet they have failed to address any miss leading quote they have spoken out of the foul mouths. This is my patience now at its end and up until this very point I have not really been pro venkys but Ive taken what they have said on face value and I ran away with a few of those quotes and dreams and ambitions and I feel cheated. I am Blackburn till I die and that will never change but I can not support Venkys any more. Nothing worse in life then liars.
Amo Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 If we only we had their squad, we wouldnt care about signing anybody, in fact we wouldnt need to sign anybody Not the right topic for it, but having missed out on the CL, and clubs hovering over Modric, Spurs can't afford to stand still. Yet still they haven't opened the cheque book.
promoted2001 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 They've changed their tone a bit since their last release on the subject - Venky's hoping to announce new signings inside two weeks To me it looks like they have figured out that running a football club is expensive, hence they will now maybe get a couple of free transfers in and that will be enough for them. My prediction - we will hover around the bottom but Kean won't be sacked no matter how bad we are as that'll cost money. Although I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong!
watford-rover Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 if they are only after a striker and a midfielder then why the hell do they have ribiero here?? what a waste of time that is. im willing to bet that the striker will be benjani as the singing of pavone has hit a 'snag' according to sky. how long until players dont get paid?
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Personally I think everything in the statement is entirely sensible - where it is lacking is that it doesn't address supporters concerns that the Jones money has been used to pay off a mortgage/overdraft which many probably weren't aware of (unless they read this MB - and the informed financial input from Philip) - as they had promised they would be paying off the debt. Too many false promises, latest being signings in two weeks ! - and not enough delivered. Time for them to deliver on their promises (not holding my breath though)
McClarky Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I've thought all along that we were not likely to sign anyone because there was noone there to sign anyone and I haven't changed my mind on this. I can see a couple of late loans and maybe a free transfer and that'll be our lot. Good job we have QPR, Norwich and Swansea coming into the league.
Ozz Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Truly remarkable stuff, unprecedented in Rovers history. Very defensive, and sounds like a reaction by Venkys to, well, the grief they are getting on here. Never a dull moment these days.
