m1st Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 'Scuse me copying myself, but I've just posted this on the "Chris Samba to Arsenal" thread: We have to play hardball in any negotiation with Daniel Levy & 'Arry. As others have pointed out, Samba's contract is nowhere near expiring so, if Spurs want him that badly, then they're going to have to dig deep.If it were up to me, I'd start from the premise that if Phil Jones was worth £16 m [minimum] with no %age to a previous club, then Samba's worth at least £20 m [cash; or no less than £15 m + Bassong (who, if I remember rightly, cost them £5m from Newcastle) to replace him] to us.

Steve Moss Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 A positive step with the Goodwillie signing. Need about 4 more before they'll convince me they've turned it around. Which might not be too hard if Petrovic is legitimate. Though I maintain that we are most limited by Kean.
Fife Rover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Glad we finally signed someone, but we need higher caliber signings than that if we want to stay up. Especially upfront. And that's before you've even seen him?? .......... Well take it from someone who is VERY,VERY sorry to see him leaving Tannardice (namely my son) who has been a red-hot Dundee Utd fan since he was first posted to RAF Leuchars in 1979, and that is in spite of me raising him and his younger brother as Rovers fans from an early age. Karl is a pretty fair judge of a player, and he had hopes of Goodwillie becoming the next really BIG thing in Scottish football, But alas all that crumbled when the big boys came calling (Rovers and Rangers) Makes a change for us in recent years to actually come out on top in a race for a very very promising Scottish player.
67splitscreen Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Well, Barrios was enquired about as was Podolski (that info was verified through several sources, including my Goodwllie source) but I think both players will cost too much taking into account their wages. I wouldn't get your hopes up of us spending more than £10m on a striker tbh. They do want to bring someone in before the window closes, so they may settle for someone like Robbie Keane if they can't get a younger and more prolific target within the next 3 weeks. 10m out of which pot though.
Mozzer Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 does nicko not post on here anymore ??? goodwillie never seen him play but surely he cant be worse then kalinic
daveoftherovers Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 If the Spurs swap deal is "anyone who's surplus" I'd prefer Kranjcar and/or Bassong of the suggested players. Defoe on form is a great striker but him and Goodwillie together represents a serious lack of height, plus I reckon his ego wouldn't let him move to us. Kranjcar is a cracking creative midfielder who can play on either wing. For that disgusting excuse for a club, I'd like to see the old "Over my dead body" ploy to be honest, but as is usual now, the player will decide... Go on, how many would like to see us give them "The bird"
Oklahoma Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Cardozo? Also noticed that he has not started for Benfica's UCL qualifier today. Cardozo started the other game, today's option was just estrategic. Anyway, the manager said that till 31st of August, anything can happen. Just yesterday there were rumours of the interest of Besiktas in him... Benfica would take €15 to €20 million, I guess.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 For that disgusting excuse for a club, I'd like to see the old "Over my dead body" ploy to be honest, but as is usual now, the player will decide... Go on, how many would like to see us give them "The bird" That would be first choice, yeah Price needs to be at least £15m, and their valuations of the players being offered in a swap would have to be at OUR valuations, not the £12m for Kranjcar fantasy land Levy lives in.
Torgeir Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 And that's before you've even seen him?? .......... People here had high hopes that Matt Derbyshire would become the next big Blackburn Rovers striker as well, didn't turn out that way Like I said in my original post I'm glad we finally signed someone, but I believe we shouldn't rely too heavily on someone as inexperienced as Goodwillie as it may shatter his confidence if he doesn't succeed straight away. Get a seasoned pro to play besides him (hopefully not J. Roberts) and show him the way. Our squad as it is isn't strong enough for a top 10 finish, and that's where our ambitions should be. We need top signings, especially if Samba leaves too.
Neal Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Does anyone know if there's some truth in that, we don't want a swap for Samba because we couldn't afford the wages of those potentially coming to us? Surely not.
joey_big_nose Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Does anyone know if there's some truth in that, we don't want a swap for Samba because we couldn't afford the wages of those potentially coming to us? Surely not. Sounds plausible in light of Goodwillie being negotiated down. Sound implausible in light of P Jones being offered 80k a week. Who knows? I guess we just have to wait and see- with the general optimism around (especilly from some of those who were previously pessimistic) I would hazard that we will sign someone on 40k plus this window.
john-rover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Does anyone know if there's some truth in that, we don't want a swap for Samba because we couldn't afford the wages of those potentially coming to us? Surely not. It was spurs wage structure being to low for Samba's demands
alexanders Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 young and prolific striker around £10m not an easy job to find.
Wilko Rover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Does anyone know how the Vieirinha pursuit is going?

Surely not. cant see it being true as we all know spurs have wage cap so there not on stupid wages
A cup of beans Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 CryerRovers Andrew Cryer btw Rovers are definitely after another striker. Had that from Venkys This day just gets better and better =) cryer is still believing everything venkys pr are telling him.. goodwillie is a gamble.. but rovers have got him for a fairly cheap price. we need goals and lets hope he has a jon stead type of start! rumours im hearing are of another marquee striker being chased. he's not very young, but not a golden oldie! it is a rumour at present and fingers crossed it happens.. the player will excite everyone. this player will not be a replacemnt for raul. hearing raul is very much still on the agenda and is v keen on joining us.. as he was last summer.

A cup of beans Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 cant see it being true as we all know spurs have wage cap so there not on stupid wages spurs have a wage cap of sorts. according to journalist ian mcgarry. keane is on around 70,000 and the highest earner.. van der vaart is 2nd highest on 63,000. astonishingly, modric was on 17,000 pw until he signed his 6 year deal to take him to 42,000 pw. (we used to pay ashley ward 16,000 a week! )

A cup of beans Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 zac, can you give us any clues as to who this exciting player is? id rather see if anything more comes of it... really.. but this player is vastly experienced. proven goalscorer. played in 2 top european leagues (not the prem)and european competitions. rovers have competition for him from clubs where he is playing at the moment.. and maybe spuds! is he playing in the Italian league its what I've been hearing ? yes! you'll get the name in no time now! haha. fingers crossed. he'd be magical!
