There seems to be a lot of point scoring on this page as to who knows more than whom. We are all Rovers fans, so if you know a potential target, is it not possible to share it with us all? It's not like we can scupper potential moves, as I can't imagine Diego Milito reads this thinking "certain members of the BRFCS messageboard don't want me there so I'm not going".

Exactly, seems to be gettin outta hand, if i was the one with the info id be happy to share and say here is what i know lads, no ones gonna shoot the messanger! But this thing of "all will be revealed soon" is it just a power thing or a sign there talking out of there ass hoping they hear something quickly before we all cop on!

The secret was keeping your competitors in the dark regarding what you were going to do about it.

If a source within the club tells a trusted confidant that Rovers are about to move for a player and that confidant blabbs on here then that alerts other clubs. This site is apparently quite extensively monitored.

I quite like to be informed that we are active in the transfer market and after a decent quality of player. Knowing that I'm prepared to wait for the club to clinch the deal and then discover the new boy's identity.

Bob, definitely no points scoring on my part.

I have always revealed names when I am able to, it is not the sharing of the name that is the problem for me, it is sources who tell you not to reveal the name.

But agree with the way things have gone this summer I am now going to adopt a policy of not dropping any hints one here eg "we are after a big name striker" etc. until I am in a position to reveal the name of the player.

As it stands, the only real positives we have going into the new season are Formica and Rochina, two players who the neutrals will know nothing about. Assuming Hoilett can get fit, then those three will play a massive role for the first half of the season at least.

At the back end of last season we only had one real goal threat in Hoilett so if Formica and Rochina can step up then you'd assume that we will create more than we did last season.

Goodwillie is promising but we still need a first choice striker who we can rely on to score goals. If we add that plus Petrovic, Veirinha and a solid centre back (2 if Samba leaves) then I reckon we stand a decent chance of having a reasonable season.

My concern is that we may have left our transfer dealings too late into the window. The desire to bring decent players in is clearly there, and if one of the proposed moves for a big name player (Raul, Milito etc) can be pulled off then I would genuinely feel that the top 10 isn't too far away.

Their heart is in the right place as far as Venky's is concerned, but whether they can get all this business done before 1st September is now the question.

The way I currently see our squad:

Plus points:

Robbo- Back to his best and has the ability to make a string of saves to earn Rovers points.

Samba- Overall he has been a very good player for us. If he stays it will be a boost going into next season (until he talks to the media again around January when he wants a move).

Emerton- Can play several positions, ended the season strongly and was a key player. Valuable player to have around the squad.

Hoilett- One of our best players last season, huge potential and should look to be even better next season.

N'Zonzi- Came back into the side and looks to have improved his passing and ability to keep possession. Our only current DM and will be a key player.

Olsson- Still undecided which is his best position, he's better going forward than defending at the moment but another season of experience could see him develop into a top class full-back.

Negatives:

Roberts- Not good enough overall especially when starting and averages around 5 goals a season. Nobody will buy him so he is here for another season.

Pedersen- Peaked around 4 years ago, doesn't have the pace or the ability to cross a ball as well as he used to (he wasn't pacey back then but his movement and crossing was consistent, that's now gone) Can't play in central midfield which was seen several times last season when he kept losing possession in games which almost cost us.

Dunny- Indian summer a couple of years ago and now that has burned out, weight issues from what I've seen (probably due to injuries restricting his ability to train properly). Will contribute in the odd game but the times when Rovers relied on him to be a major force are now gone IMO.

Salgado- Will give his all but his legs are ageing rapidly, teams will target him and I can see us dropping points due to his weaknesses.

Kalinic- I still am a fan but can't see him fitting in here. Relationship between the player seems to have broken down beyond repair.

Givet- I don't think he is as good as some make out on here and still might have contractual issues.

Andrews- You can't question his committment and willingness to give his all on the pitch, but can question the quality.

No opinion/jury out for next season:

Lowe- Potential to be a decent player from all reports will need to push on next season if given the chance.

Cotton- One for the future.

Hanley- Needs to push on to replace Jones leaving.

Ramm- don't know much about him.

Formica- jury still out.

Rochina- jury still out.

Anderson- jury still out.

Nelsen- Not getting any younger, coming back from a bad injury. Will be interesting to see if he can still cut it at this level.

Ideally if we had the money most of the squad does need replacing but let's face it we don't have the money and we are stuck with some of these mediocre players until their contracts run out.

With the money left we need really another striker, midfielder or two and may have to buy a defender or two if Samba goes (all that depends on if Kean is going to play Givet there alongside Nelsen with Hanley as back-up).

Not going to get involved in the pissing competition, but can I just add that Zac certainly doesn’t post his news as soon as he gets it, in fact he knew about Raul and Podolski almost a week before they came out on here, he also told me about Milito last weekend.

He winds people up the wrong way with some of his posts, me included, but that shouldn’t detract from the stuff he knows, some of which has been claimed by others, some of which is poked fun at by fellow posters.

To the posters who don't have contacts, its good to have the likes of Kamy, Zac, Nicko etc on the site for sure.

You may have hit on something there. It is the manner or way of how Zaccaius posts in comparison to kamy. My view is that zaccaius comes over childish whereas kamy is more professional. Zaccaius comes over very boastful, whereas kamy just shares what he is able to. He may well know this that and the other, but the manner in how he shares or reveals it that is often the reason for others posting fun at him.

I have also not known Kamy to post insulting comments towards other posters - sadly the same cannot be said of Zaccaius.

Good post, sums up quite a lot of my thoughts. have to say though I don't see Givet as a negative - quality-wise he's fine, the contract situation is the only concerning thing with him but hopefully that won't affect him on the pitch and has already been sorted out. Also I'd put Formica and Rochina in the positive bracket as they've generally looked excellent in the ressies/pre-season and I'm genuinely excited to see what they can offer next season. I can see why you'd put jury still out, though, as they've not proven anything at PL level yet.

Oh, I'd also put Anderson in negative on the basis he'll never be good enough for us IMO and was a charity buy for daddy Jerome.

Yeah, good summary and agree with the above points from DE4life.

i have nothing against kamy. i like the guy. he's good at what he does and i value his input.

What were you saying about Glenn being condescending?

You have good information so try and put it use helping the site rather than just trying to points score.

That's probably true, but the way I see it is that someone on this site says they have heard about a target, tells people that they've got an inside scoop, waits for the others to start demanding who it is before revealing him. That's not exactly keeping things under wraps

Yes PAFELL I agree with you to a point.

Zac got embroiled in the Venkys/Kean debates before he started to pass on his information, which puts him at a disadvantage on here that’s for sure :D

Not sure Kamy has been stupid enough to do that

You'd be surprised just how many stories on here originated from Zac.

But like last night it was amusing getting some hints and trying to figure out who he meant. People should stop taking everything so seriously and calm down a little bit.

Amusing for some is screwdrivers gouging into both eyes paiful for others, though.

Jeez. I can see why a lot of the people I talk to prefer Vital Blackburn to this site, a lot of you guys talk so much trash, it's unreal. Is there really any need for a goodwillie measuring competition? "I told you first" "Yeah but I knew about it 4 weeks before you ever mentioned it" like bloody kids! Get over it, we are all fans of the club and as long as we get the news, who cares where it comes from or who said it first?

Exactly.

Reading this thread at times can be like sitting at a bar listening to two drunks argue over who bought the last round - for half an hour.

Just for fun - Naming a few targets I think would improve our squad and would also be realistic targets:

Andreas Guardado - Left Winger Age 24. Got relegated with Deportivo La Coruna FC. Has a good left foot and can take free kicks / corners.

Ola Toivonen - Striker from PSV.

Olivier Giroud - Age 24. Striker from Montepellier. Netted 13 times last season.

Good shouts, on all counts.

How about Matías Fernández? One of my favourite players that doesn't play for one of Europe's elite clubs.

Mevluc Erdinc £7m fee accepted by Newcastle hasn't been able to agree personal terms yet would be a very good signing.

He would be. But would Kean want him tho. remind me of a RSC 1st season type of striker. Excellent header of the ball and will score goals.

We will probably end up with RSC on loan towards the end of the transfer window. :angry2::lol:

I like your analysis. :tu:

I also agree with those who believe the above is a bit light weight. Whether it is significantly strengthened depends on who is purchased to fill in for your players 1-4.

And Grella, MGP and Dunn cannot be relied upon. In my opinion, Grella is prone to injury, Dunn struggles with fitness, and MGP is inconsistent.

And if Samba goes we need a 5 more players, not 4.

I am very uncomfortable with our current squad composition and manager, especially considering how close we are to game day. If we are to break into the top 10 this season, we still need significant improvement.

Totally, I feel the success of this season really depends on the quality of players signed in these next two weeks.

They have to be players that will challenge the first team immediately!

Having said that, we have the basis of a squad that is more than capable of staying in the league.

Hopefully over the next couple of seasons we are able to replace the majority of our average squad players (i.e. Grella, Dunn, Pedersen) and keep building gradually.

It would be unrealistic to ship out 10+ players this summer (although there is a strong argument for it) and expect replacements to gel immediately.
