Torgeir Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I understand that Taggart, however we also have the opportunity to pay in instalments. I also understand that the bank took a chunk of money due to mismanagement or whatever you want to call it. As a fan though, the last bit is irrelevant to me. If Balaji has x amount of millions set aside for a big signing, surely he can afford to wipe the overdraft - Something that would be more beneficial to the stability of the club and still give us a big kitty for a striker. Don't get me wrong, I'd be reasonably happy with our business if we end up with Goodwillie, Petrovic, Vierhina and a decent striker...but it woudn't score Venkys any bonus points in my book - just another broken promise. I fully agree with this. New owners are more vocal than our previous ones but in reality it's status quo in terms of funds set aside for transfers.

beanie Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 quality midfielder mate. an excellent signing should he be the kinda player that kean would go after. Never done much at villa tho last year.
Veevs Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I am really struggling to work out Keans thinking.. he seems set on a left winger rather than a goal scorer.. from what I hear the likes of Piatti and co where his idea.. why though? we need a god dang goalscorer.
goodwillie_style Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I am really struggling to work out Keans thinking.. he seems set on a left winger rather than a goal scorer.. from what I hear the likes of Piatti and co where his idea.. why though? we need a god dang goalscorer. I'm sure they are sorting that problem out, but top strikers cost top dollar and aren't easy to come by, it will take more time than other players maybe even down to the last day of the transfer window, but I'm sure another striker will come in
John Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Generally hasn't the transfer window gone awfully quiet for all clubs pretty much?
bennyboyt11 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I think there have been a lack of 'controversial' transfers or even sagas. Most clubs seem to be getting on with their business without interrupting other clubs.
John Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Surely Harry Redknapp's won't be happy with making no signings so far, surely some activity to take place at Spurs (hopefully not involving Samba).
chris Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Would be no surprise at all should this not happen. Kamy reckons the budget is £15 to £16m which means sizeable 'disinvestment'. Not saying Kammy is wrong but he really doesn't know for sure does he, four weeks ago the budget was 50 million, two weeks ago we were skint and the bdget was zero, Mrs D was having the sell her house. I have heard that the budget is 15 million plus up to 30 million for a big signing. But really doesn't matter what we believe, we have to wait and see. Certainly things are looking more positive. A few people can reduce their Vallium dose at least.
Hughesy Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I think in total there is a budget of £15-£16 million. Thus far we have spent £2 million Goodwillie. Around £3 million for Petrovic, potentially £4 million Veriniha, that is £9 million. That leaves around £7 million. Maybe sign a striker for around £6 million and then use rest for a loan signing or two. Would people be happy with this?? Scenario - we sign Goodwillie, Petrovic, Veriniha, Striker, Ribierio and a loan player....& sell Diouf, Kalinic and shift out Andrews on loan - but no longer have any bank debt.....will people be happy with that?
keaney23 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Would people be happy with this?? Scenario - we sign Goodwillie, Petrovic, Veriniha, Striker, Ribierio and a loan player....& sell Diouf, Kalinic and shift out Andrews on loan - but no longer have any bank debt.....will people be happy with that? Hell yeah along with the potential of two loans id be a happy Rover and its a step in the RIGHT direction
adsfortheblues Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Would people be happy with this?? Scenario - we sign Goodwillie, Petrovic, Veriniha, Striker, Ribierio and a loan player....& sell Diouf, Kalinic and shift out Andrews on loan - but no longer have any bank debt.....will people be happy with that? Think the problem is this time last year people would have been over the moon with that. However because we have been promised so much and different people have talked about certain players, there will always be that bit of dissapointment.
budha Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Would people be happy with this?? Scenario - we sign Goodwillie, Petrovic, Veriniha, Striker, Ribierio and a loan player....& sell Diouf, Kalinic and shift out Andrews on loan - but no longer have any bank debt.....will people be happy with that? Wouldn't we still have the original debt from the Trust era? Or at which point is that being paid?
Al Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Wouldn't we still have the original debt from the Trust era? Or at which point is that being paid? I think you are right budha. Hughsey gets confused from time to time.
chaddyrovers Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Would people be happy with this?? Scenario - we sign Goodwillie, Petrovic, Veriniha, Striker, Ribeiro and a loan player....& sell Diouf, Kalinic and shift out Andrews on loan - but no longer have any bank debt.....will people be happy with that? We have signed Goodwillie, Petrovic (if WP goes through) and Ribeiro. If we sign a striker permanent, Vieirinha permanent, striker on loan and a defender on loan. Then if EHD, Kalinic and Andrews on loan all left. I would be fairly happy with this.
Hughesy Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Isnt the overdraft the majority of our original debt??
Kelbo Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Isnt the overdraft the majority of our original debt?? NO
Al Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Isnt the overdraft the majority of our original debt?? Yes but the Venkys also took out a mortgage and it is that that the bank have reclaimed, not the original overdraft. Try to keep up.
Henwah Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I am really struggling to work out Keans thinking.. he seems set on a left winger rather than a goal scorer.. from what I hear the likes of Piatti and co where his idea.. why though? we need a god dang goalscorer. Who is the obvious candidate for left wing in the current squad - olsson? He's more an attacking full back for me, needs to work on his defensive duties, not likely to become a reliable crosser of the ball Pedersen - opposite of olsson - decent crosser (despite the fact he occasionally, and inexplicably mishits them into the stand) but can't get in the positions to do it So I'd say a left winger who can get in advanced positions and do something useful would be pretty handy
Hughesy Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Yes but the Venkys also took out a mortgage and it is that that the bank have reclaimed, not the original overdraft. Try to keep up. Yes surely as a new owner they would have to take out a mortgage facility like the trust had? They couldnt keep a credit agreement in old owners names surely?
Steve Moss Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Surely Balaji's funds are Rovers funds no? The new financial fair play rules certainly won't entertain the idea that a transfer is OK because it came out of one of the owner's personal bank account rather than some designated transfer pot. It is more accurate to state that Rovers funds are Balaji's funds. The Raos own the Rovers, not vice-versa. And aren't the financial fair play rules only applicable to Champions League teams? Or is it all teams? Clearly my maths must be @#/? but I'm sure we offloaded P Jones for £16 mil plus - and Kalinic is on his way for another £6 million. That's £22 million before the supposed £5million per window. We were promised all funds from sales would be reinvested. I also can't imagione that Petrovic, Goodwillie and Vierinha will be on huge wages. The striker signing is THE most important one of this window. Can't see £6 million getting us a good un. I agree a 10-15 goal per season striker is of the highest priority. As to fees, Allegedly: 1) Jones was half this year and half next; but, 2) The bank took the first half, leaving us with zero from Jones this year. So we have nothing from the Jones money. As to Kalinic, Allegedly: 1) the sale price was around 6 million; but, 2) Hadjuk Split claims they are due 15%; and, 3) Dniper wants to pay over the course of the contract, not up front. So the transfer has not yet occurred and we don't have any Kalinic money at present. Borussia Monchengladbach has said that U.S. International Michael Bradley is not part of their plans this year and that he is looking for a new club. I don't know what the transfer fee would be, but maybe a loan could be worked out. Bradley would be a good, inexpensive signing and would get the Rovers a lot of exposure in the USA. Surely Harry Redknapp's won't be happy with making no signings so far, surely some activity to take place at Spurs (hopefully not involving Samba). Redknapp should exchange three of his "cast offs" for Samba. Kranjcar, Defoe and Bassong. It's a win-win as: 1. He beefs up his defense. 2. He unloads three players, reducing the wage bill. 3. We improve in three areas, forward, mid and defense. Are you reading this Harry? Make the offer. It's in your interests. I would never leave you astray. Scenario - we sign Goodwillie, Petrovic, Veriniha, Striker, Ribierio and a loan player....& sell Diouf, Kalinic and shift out Andrews on loan - but no longer have any bank debt.....will people be happy with that? Sure, but how is the debt being paid off under your scenario? Venkys Ltd took over, and so owe the original amount of debt incurred by the Trust. Is that roughly 20 million? But BRFC was free and clear, though Venkys owes the money. Then the Raos took out a mortgage, allegedly for 18 million. This is secured by the club. The bank took the first payment of the Jones money. So we are probably down around 10 million in debt secured by the club. From Venkys "business" perspective, we are likely 30 or so million in debt, between the two loans (pre- and post- Trust). From the perspective of the football world, we are about 10 million in debt. This does not count whatever debt Venkys may have burdened us with as part of the most recent completed and pending deals. All this I gleaned from Philip and other posters. Did I accurately re-state the situation, Philip?
67splitscreen Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Yes surely as a new owner they would have to take out a mortgage facility like the trust had? They couldnt keep a credit agreement in old owners names surely? Oh dear!.
Mercer Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Is Ribeiro a Rover or not ? Poor do, and typical of the lack of communication, when no one seems to know. If he is, a necessary signing ? - surely no better than Emo @ right back.
daveoftherovers Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Surely Harry Redknapp's won't be happy with making no signings so far, surely some activity to take place at Spurs (hopefully not involving Samba). But Dirty Arry gets an additional week doesn't he, it's a special ruling for Spuds.
