Has someone mentioned that a deal for an unnamed striker is advancing? Is that why we're guessing names?

Or is this just wild guesses at a replacement striker?

If it's a genuine tip is it likely to be online tonight or tomorrow?

apparently very very close to agreeing the signing for a exciting young forward who has played in two of the top leagues in europe, the player is keen but we haven't agreed a fee with club yet, hence all the guessing

Those "in the know" are saying that we're closing in on a striker. Someone who has played in one of Europe's big leagues and is relatively young with a decent scoring record. No-one is willing to let slip. Would just sit back on this one to see how reliable these folk are for future reference. Hope this helps.

I just think with certain strikers you can tell whether or not they're suited for the premiership and I just don't see that with him.

What would people think to Macheda on loan?

I thought Macheda, would be better than M B Diouf but he didn't do that well at Sampadoria and he's actually not scored that often for UTD, maybe it just seems he's scored loads because he gets important goals.

After reading through the backlog of pages today I cannot think of anyone else other than Rondon now, I really hope it is him!

I did indeed, everything I hear today also backs that up. Until a bid is accepted then nothing is imminent. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

can you at least rule out rondon or cant you do that, is it a player to excite fans we deserve some good news, are we close to agreeing fee for the player from paok

i know im going to get abuse for this (well whats new?) but i dont think rondon is all that good, hes had one good goal scoring season in his career and if he was as good as people make out then surely bigger clubs than us would be in for him, i would sooner go for someone like raul or defoe.

how olds raul and defoe, rondon is 21 , at least with him theres a sell on fee in the future, rondon will only get better

Well fancy that. A new weeks starts with yet another no-name mystery striker being tenuously linked with Rovers. What are the odds on his name not being revealed, the trail going cold and YET ANOTHER no-name mystery striker being revealed next week?

I saw him in the Copa America and in each game I watched he was by far the best player on the pitch (though that's not really saying much considering he plays for Venezuela). He likes to run at defenders and looked like he had decent pace, likes a shot from distance too. Given his age I think he can become a pretty good player

Seconded. I suppose he falls into the same category as Cisse, had one good season. He must be decent though for people to rave about him.

Its hard to judge a player you've not seen play that often but from what I've seen he seems pacy and athletic, good in the air, mobile and has a good scoring record in a team that struggled for much of the season. Maybe he wants guaranteed first team football and Malaga have signed a lot of good players including Ruud V Nistlrooy so maybe he's worried about his place and he's keen to move?

He's young, developing and scored at a good ratio for a mid table team in a good league last year. Scores at international level.

But can't say I'd heard of him either.

never thought i would say this but Roverandout has a good point if we are going to rely on this striker to get the majority of our goals it should be someone a little more proven even Francis Jeffers had one good season.

I agree with you. We were linked with him a few weeks back, and people definitely weren't excited about him, i think because we were linked with somebody else at the same time (don't remember who). Probably better than our current crop, but reluctant to want to build a team around him.

He's a very talented player. He is realistic for us, we can't afford the big stars yet. I'm confident that Rondon would be a very good striker for Rovers. He has all the attributes to suit the Premiership which is a huge plus.
