If they can afford to give away the sponsorship to charity I expect we're spending the Phil Jones money in full on transfers too.

Trying hard to phrase something that doesn't sound extremely egotistical, but it's hard: All the money available needs to be put towards buying players, we don't have the luxury of sponsoring a charity in our current position.

IMO of course.

Agree Torgeir. There was talk of a minimum of 5m each window and any sale proceeds reinvested. To my mind that's 16 for Phil, 6 for Niko and another 5 for new investment, or 27 all up. To date we have spent 5 or 6. If we aren't reinvesting the funds then I would like to hear the owners come out and explain where that money is being redeployed, to repay debt or whatever. It's their club and they can manage it as they see fit, but a bit of communication would be nice. I know we aren't shareholders, but as football fans we are significant stakeholders, and companies will generally explain their dividend policy each year for the coming year.

I think it comes down to not wanting to undervalue the property. They have a specific price they are looking for, and won't discount it. If they did, it would set a precedent for future sponsorships.

It is called facing reality. Rovers are in trouble this season without additional decent signings.

No it's not Pafell. It's called listening to Pafell's version of reality and I'm getting pretty bored of it along with that nasty divisive tag on the bottom of all your posts.

I think the 1st 45 minutes vs Wolves last season papered over a lot of cracks....we were terrible in most of the games Kean were in charge, Stoke Newcastle Blackpool Brum all at home....diabolical!

The fact is we are weaker.....

Agreed, and IMO we should be looking at proven premiership players, it's ok signing players from other leagues but the prem is notorious for being faster paced and more physical than any other league. If, heaven forbid we pick up another 2 or 3 nasty injuries in the first game or two then we are going to be more reliant than ever on these newbies(rochina and formica included) hitting the ground running. If they fail to do this and we fail to add any proven quality in the transfer window, the start of the season could be a bit of an uphill struggle to say the least, which inturn creates more unrest in the fans and heaps pressure on kean and venkys.

So come on rovers sign a few quality prem players!

Similar Roberts' rubbish in the LT. He is so far up the backsides of Venky's and Kean that it is untrue. He needs to earn the right to 'preach' - give me a dozen PL goals in season and I might listen.

What evidence is there to suggest that Jason Roberts is an arse kisser? Why cant it just be that he actually means what he says? Because it dosn't suit your agenda?

I'm sure you'd tell the big fella he's arse kisser to his face.

I couldn't care less who the sponsor is and if it is a charity FairPlay to venkys . Just goes to show what decent people they are tbh . I just get the feeling what ever venkys do they just cannot win with some of the Numtys on Brfcs .

It leaves question marks if they're not reinvesting money into the transfer market after having escaped relegation on the final day of last season. If they're not, and they're basically donating potential sponsor income to charity, then they're jeopardising our PL status when they don't really have to.

If they reinvest then fair play, it will be an admirable gesture to what is hopefully a good charity.

i hear parkes has quit his role as scout.

id forgetten he was even a scout!

quit. oh well.. i expect more flack to be fired at the owners!

loyal servant, decent man.. by all accounts. but rovers have been very good to him too... over the years... and that should be noted too. IMO.

Worth picking up the Lt tmrw. It will have the answer to the question you have all been asking........Nite

is a transfer deal or sponsorship deal??????

With the shirt so close to launch I'd say sponsership news.

My guess would be sponsorship.

I think you will find that he has been plagued with questions about Bamba.

He was pretty sure that SSN had put two of his stories from earlier in the week together and come up with Bamba.

He's was pretty sure it was rubbish.

My guess it that he has asked the question and got the answer.

He might be getting spun, just like we all seem to be.

Still, 20 days left in the market. Dare I say a spanking at the hands of Wolves might persuade them to pony up the dough to sign what we need? I don't want us to get spanked, but if it's going to benefit the club in the long-run, it might help Venky's to see how tough this season will be without the missing components.

No point speculating on names until bids are accepted. But some good players being tracked. Time to judge will be 1st Septembe

The season starts in two days. The time to judge was weeks ago. Or are we just to write off several very winnable matches until Venkys decides its time to reinforce the squad?

what makes it all the sadder is that rovers, given a good start, coulkd easily be looking at 12 points on the board by the middle of september IF thet had improved the squad. that could be vital.

Exactly. We are in a position to build positive, early momentum. Unfortunately, rather than strengthen the squad so we can come out fighting, the owners would rather roll the dice.

Agreed. Win one for Venkys? Please. When Venkys prove themselves I might understand the sentiment. They haven't come close, yet.

Sense, pure sense!

If any of the naysayers want to argue with this, I can save you time...you're wrong! ;)

Unfortunately it wasn't 'sense' at all, 'hopefull' yes, there's no sense in saying we are close to a top side and then naming a bunch of players who (A few mins for Rochina aside) have never played in the PL.

that would be disastrous season a terrible season was like one last season !

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/philmcnulty/2011/08/my_premier_league_201112_predi.html

thats what the BBC think and most pundits come on Rovers you have to prove them wrong - that is going to be very difficult - all the pundits seen us go on a winless streak last season then survive on the last day and have now seen us with a weakened squad hence thats why they are predicting what they do can anyone blame them ?? the answer is NO....

We have been strung along , bullshitted all pre season so far ( OK we have 2 possible decent prospects brought in but thats it ) we have a threadbare squad we even have Mr Anderson named in our 1st team squad WTF is that alll about ??? to make the numbers up...lol theres enougth missing already..

For those fools who keep posting wait and see its not the end of the window please wake up and smell the coffee the season starts in 2 days time not on sept 1st...

IT is important to get off to a winning start on saturday against a potential relegation rival

The two players that have come in are both young and promising. Petrovic particularly (Serbia are a good side) and the odds on Goodwillie being better than what we have aren't long. I'd like him to be much better but the crux of this discussion is whether we are in a better position than last season (which I think I need to remind some people we finished 15th).

Saying we struggled to stay up is a nonsense statement. We struggled to win games for a period but you either stay up or you don't. We finished above five teams last year and stayed up.

Samba is still at the club.

The midfield creativity will probably come from Hoilett, Rochina and Formica (or some combination thereof) and will hopefully provide a few goals as well.

Now nothing is guaranteed but then bringing in big name or expense players doesn't guarantee anything either. If Shevchenko can fail at Chelsea then nothing is certain.

We've lost one good player and weren't able to bring a loanee (who only played half a season) in permanently. We've brought in a couple of new faces and hope to have a couple more in before all is said and done. This combined with a few other teams looking weaker (Newcastle, Bolton, Villa) and the fact that we stayed up last year (!) mean that there isn't any reason for black dog pessimism.

It hasn't been a great off season but it's not terrible!

When other teams see Samba out injured their confidence in beating Rovers will be sky high. rovers need defenders as well as a striker who can score 20 goals a season. We do not need them on 1st sept. The season starts on saturday (subject to riots). But that will not happen. If a player is signed today I think it maybe impossible to have them registered in time for the start of the season on saturday.
