It does seem a bit quiet. I was hoping that Rovers would make 1 more signing before the opening game but that's not going to happen now by the looks of it with the Vierinha deal now dead according to the LT. Real shame that one.

Hopefully Kamy or Glenn can enlighten us with some good news later on :)

On sunday Kean said that he was expecting new faces in 3/4days - its now thursday and nothing. People at the club seem to always set themselves up for failure with statements about the kit/sponsors/signings/budget.

Would be nice to have a few players with EPL experience, on the downside though we would be funding Everton lol

i agree on all counts veevs..

IF as it states in this article.. http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/football-hotline/2011/07/31/blackburn-wrapping-up-deal-for-dundee-striker-goodwillie-102039-23309045/

"Rovers have recruited the help of London-based financial expert Tony Brown.."

he is big mates with Bill Kenwright!

Apparently according to sources on here we have an active bid for a striker and a defender also pursuing a midfield target and have a list of players who are available for loan. But yet we hear nothing and none of these stories have been picked up by the media all seems a bit strange to me.

Story of our summer so far.. lots of links (to say the least 78 or something at last count) yet no end product.. not even loanies :(

I really do hope we don't keep charging after kids, time to get some experience in (but not to old lol) as I doubt we will get full seasons out of Nelson, Salgado, Dunn, Emerton, Grella and co.

Just 20 days to go (or 14 if Rovers don't work weekends).. So please pretty please Mrs D if your reading this.. We will need a few more players than we have.

Thomas Hitzelsperger (sp?) on a free to boost out midfield wouldn't be too bad. The form that Pedersen has been in for the last few years, TH would be more effective in that deep midfield/attach role.

I'd even consider offering Owen Hargreaves a pay-as-you-play deal, when fit he would be ideal to play in our midfield alongside NZonzi or Petro.

We signed Petrovic since then!

Just watching Australia v. Wales & it wouldn't surprise me at all if Lucas Neill came back...

Has family connections in the Blackburn area, bags of experience, widely respected by his team mates and FREE!!!

I wouldn't mind him back either if only it hadn't been so messy when he left us...

As a PLAYER I still respect him & think he could bring something to our squad

from what i hear... i wouldnt get excited over the supposed 3 bids.. ive no details on bids.. as to whether they have actively bid or not yet,

told we are after;

striker from abroad.. slow progress

midfielder maybe veirinha.. but complicated and will probably be a long drawn out affair.

defender will be cover/ cheap.

Story of every clubs summer apart from 3 or 4 noteable differences fella.

Loanies don't usually land until the doors come down on the window anyway.

Lot of clubs trying to keep their budgets and squad sizes down this year in advance of the new reg's, so that will make a difference this year.

We have what we have for Saturday, and hopefully the others will come in over the Window.

Keep the faith!

stokholm, you have only been on here 2 mins, if you dont like listening to people's views then go somewhere else. As for malk, no offence but your talking out of your bottom...

...Last season should have been a warning to the owners but they dont seem to have got the message, i am furious with whats gone on and at this moment cant see any light at the end of the tunnel.

Regarding the above post - I just PMd Stockholmonster with this message.

I feel I should apologise - there's too many pricks on here & Roverandout is one of the biggest ones.

Were not all jerks and I for one welcome you to the Rovers family.

Im getting f**ked off at people damaging my club I know weve had the Venkys argument, but there is no way anybody should be turning on a contributor like this.

Roverandout I hope that the light youre looking for at the end of the tunnel doesnt turn out to be a train.

When things are broken, remember - theres a crack in everything, thats where the light comes in L. Cohen

All message boards are like brfcs, a place to have a lively debate, celebrate wins and go beserk after defeats.

Bit of a poor do that PM John, people who are 'glass half empty' aren't 'pricks', having a gripe on an internet message board doesn't 'damage the club'.

Decisions made on and off the pitch by owners, players, managers, admininistrators, authorites, fans deciding not to renew STs and so on and so on can 'damage the club', a bunch of moaners on a website? Do me a favour!

Cryer saying Kean is still hoping for 2 or 3 players to arrive, but no interest in Bamba.

Thinks Samba is touch and go for Saturday, would be a huge boost if he plays.

I reckon we need 4 more players.

We need a defender, midfielder and 2 strikers.

I would expect 2 permanent deals and 2 loans from Rovers.

That's the truth Mattyblue. All the moaning on here will not do a thing to hurt the club. Just a shame tha one or two feel that they have to abuse someone because of their veiwpont.

How are Newcastle weaker? they have signed a few top quallity players Yoann Cabaye and Marveaux are both classy players add to that Demba Ba and Obertan,Villa have lost Downing and Ashley Young but N'Zogbia can be explosive and is the main reason Wigan stayed up,i agree with you about Bolton they should struggle but so will we and we did just barely stay up,we may have finished 15th but it was slightly flattering considering it took us to the final game of the season to secure safety.

As I mentioned in an earlier post without Carroll, Nolan and Barton 48% of their league goals last year have evaporated. Ba has a good record but has serious questions about his fitness and the other three are just as unproven in the premiership are our new players. We've lost the Jones' (41 league games last season, no goals) whereas they've lost Carroll, Barton and Nolan (81 league games and 27 goals). Who has the bigger question mark.

Villa's acquisition of N'Zogbia doesn't make up for the loss of both Downing and Young! They aren't awful but are unquestionably weaker. Bolton look a mess and I cannot work out why Coyle is so well regarded. Bolton got off to a good start then utterly tanked.

As for 15th being slightly flattering? You play the games and tot up the points. We finished in 15th plain and simple. Was it unflattering for teams that got relegated on the last day? Of course I want us to be safe as soon as possible but the league was so tight last year I'm not surprised things went to the wire. The way the league is going a couple of wins will put anyone clear and couple of losses drag you into the mire. This is the same for everyone so no point in extrapolating it into us being near certain relegation candidates.

malk, we stayed up on the last day of the season, so of course we struggled to stay up, what planet are you on? your relying on 2 unproven players in rochina and formica to be the creativity? how do you know they are up to the challenge? is hoilett fit enough to play at the moment? will samba be here next month? how do you know goodwillie will make it at this level? he is UNPROVEN, buying a finished article striker, like nicko said on radio lancashire, is the big difference between being in the bottom 3 and being in the top 10, sometimes you have to push the boat out, take a risk otherwise it will be same as last season. If we had a good, experienced manager to get the best out of a bad bunch, which is what our squad is then i would feel alot calmer but the fact is we have an unproven, numpty of a manager who doesnt know the difference between his arse and his elbow. This squad hasnt changed one bit hardly apart from an host of departures. We are weaker now than last season, you cant deny that. so if you want to keep your head in the sand and pretend all is well then thats your perogative but dont expect the majority of fans to share your misplaced optimism. Oh and malk it wasnt a terrible season, nearly getting relegated? i would be curious to know how you define terrible then.

If a team wins the title on the last day did they "struggle" to win the title? It's a moot point really, the fact is we stayed up with five teams who did worse than us over 38 games.

Any time you sign a player they are unproven. There have been enough high priced flops (many of whom were "proven" before said flop) for no one to be a sure thing. I don't know that the players mentioned are up to the challenge but I'm hoping at least some of them are. I'll be really disappointed (and surprised) if all four of the newer guys fail completely. NB they don't all need to become incredible, just solid premiership players would be adequate.

As for injuries, anyone could get injured. West Brom could lose Odemwingie and be in serious trouble, who knows?

I didn't listen to the radio lancs programme but your quote from Nicko is laughable. How can you buy a finished article striker? How many of these were finished articles:

Andriy Shevchenko, Steve Marlet, Fernando Morientes, Serhiy Rebrov, Djribil Cisse, Massimo Maccarone, Diego Forlan, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Stéphane Guivarc’h, Hernán Crespo.

You say you have to push the boat out, take a risk, well perhaps the better risk is to scout well and bring in a reasonably priced player rather than one who costs a fortune. A lot of the time the price of purchase has no bearing on future success.

Our squad compares favourably enough with other comparable teams so your best of a bad bunch knee jerk doesn't hold water for me. Give me a position by position analysis of another team that outclasses us throughout the 11 positions and I'll consider it.

Kean, like Coyle, Martinez, McCarthy, Pardew, Warnock, Lambert and Rodgers hasn't proved anything yet. I get it you don't like him but a with a sample size of half a season you're merely succumbing to the ridiculous Sky influenced caricature of football where anything but instant success means you have to change immediately.

Someone above mentioned what a terrible season would be, relegation. I don't fancy getting into a semantic arms race but last season was poor (indeed pretty grim) but like a few other clubs, not getting relegated is a base line for success and you hope for the odd season where we push for Europe or go on a good cup run. Football is awash with unintentional hyperbole though so I can see why 15th is terrible, catastrophic unimaginable failure.

When other teams see Samba out injured their confidence in beating Rovers will be sky high. rovers need defenders as well as a striker who can score 20 goals a season. We do not need them on 1st sept. The season starts on saturday (subject to riots). But that will not happen. If a player is signed today I think it maybe impossible to have them registered in time for the start of the season on saturday.

The old 20 goal a season striker chestnut. If we're discussing league football (and I think we are) then we simply will not sign a player that will score 20 goals a season. They won't even do it once. 20% of Premiership seasons have resulted in no player scoring 20 league goals. To reiterate, in 1 in 5 Premiership seasons the golden boot scored less than 20 goals.

Let's reduce the criteria a little and take a look back in time. How many players scored 15 or more league goals in a given season (number in parenthesis denotes player from non "big 4/5 club):

2010/11 - 5 (2).

2009/10 - 8 (2).

2008/09 - 3 (0).

2007/08 - 8 (5).

2006/07 - 3 (1).

2005/06 - 6 (2).

2004/05 - 2 (1).

And so on. Of the 10 non "big 4/5" players, three times it was Darren Bent, twice Robbie Keane and the rest were one season wonders (including our own Santa Cruz and McCarthy). In the seven seasons listed 20 or more goals occurred just 15 times.

I want a player that will consistently score 10+ goals and not have a wonder season that causes him to be poached by a "big" club. That will be hard enough to find, let alone a semi mythical 20 goak a season striker. Last season, outside of the top 6, only three teams scored 55 goals or more (including relegated Blackpool and 6th top scorer DJ Campbell, how did that work out Nicko?). We got 46 with a misfiring attack line last season. If we improve that by 9 (not an easy task but doable). Out of Hoilett, MB Diouf, Benjani, Kalinic and Roberts we scored 21 goals. Can Hoilett, Roberts, Formica, Rochina and Goodwillie get 30 between them? We shall see.

My apologies for the lengthy and somewhat off topic post but we really should be thinking a little more before making such sweeping prognostications.
