apart from J Jones on that list of Philip, the only other player/s who really played much was RSC, Phil Jones and Benjani.

P Jones was injured for some time, and Benjani was a bit part player. So despite losing quite a bit of players, fact is they didnt contribute much. There will be alot more expected of at Least Petrovic and Goodwillie and another striker.

Philipl I wouldn't dream of yelling at anyone but you do seem to be twisting the facts to suit your argument. You can't really count Gunning as a first team loss and you should be counting Formica and Rochina in new players for this season.

The transfer window should really run till July 31st and then all this would be done and dusted now and we would know where we stand. More business will be done in the next 3 weeks than the rest of the window. All the clubs in the same boat. Including Arsenal who you would class as a well run club and now they have to replace their two star players days before the season starts.

I really feel there are things to look forward to but depends what sort of person you are.

good post, scotty. there are things im looking forward too and excited about.

sometimes, i think, summer transfer window should be similar to the Jan window.. 1st July -31st July.

but... then again.. what would we talk about ? and what would media outlets fill pages and airtime with ?

The bids/Enquiries are there, The players we want have been highlighted, Why it is taking so long is anyone's guess.

Everyone was really excited by this window and that excitement has at times been tested by bad press, slow progress and what appear shallow promises.

Do we really have things that bad though?

If we comfortably retain our Prem status this season that will be deemed a great success, from where was was last season.

Aston Villa have lost their best 2 players and have although they have brought in N'Zogbia they are worse off,

Everton- Can't remember them buying anyone, much be frustrating be a Toffee's fan.

Arsenal- They are classed as a team who should be challenging for the league/European honours, but have lost Clichy, Fabregasc and Nasri about to leave too and their sigings have not set to many pulses racing around the Emirates

Many other teams are in the same boat where players have yet to arrive in this window and they have also seen players leave.

Its difficult for us all to remain positive, and sometimes you have to wonder if you have recieved a bang on the head when you remain optimistic.

When you read in the papers we are chasing multi million pound superstars only to later find out all bets are off, it comes as a bomb shell, But hey we have always had a great scouting network which has seen us bring in value for money and turn an OK player into a household name, I.e Samba, Cruz, Bentley, Berg, the list is endless.

When we won the league we bought many players who where deemed surplas to requirments at other clubs, and we built a team, and not just a squad of players.

So far we have Rochina and Formica from January, they are like new players as they was not rushed into action when they arrived. Both are skillful exciting and the type of player we have not had at Rovers for many a year.

Goodwillie has arrived, and I don't know much about him, he is young and highly rated in Scotland, he was not expensive and is a gamble worth taking seeing he cost a third of what we got for Kalinic before add'ons

Petrovic- I have followed him since he was 18 and i'm really pleased he has come to rovers, In fact i'm still pinching myself cos I expected him to be wearing Manchester United or Juventus colours this year, I rate him that highly. We are all in for a treat with him and i'm thrilled.

I'm aware of players we went for this summer which fell through, because frankly they were unrealistic but I'm also aware of players who are still live, and if we can grab just a couple of those Rovers is going to be an exciting place to be this season.

The brand of football which we could potentialy play makes having a season ticket to witness it like a Wonka golden ticket.

This window has not closed, and ideally we wanted to see our signings here now, but that has not happened for one reason or another,

Do we dwell on it?

Its all history all we can do is look to the future, get behind the team and trust what we are told will bare fruit,

Our business this window is far from over, and with the good young players we already have this is the start of something special

I appologise for my grammer, its not one of my strongest points, but i'm working on it

A fantastic post :tu:

How anybody views Blackman as a possible first teamer or even backup this year is beyond me he looks absolutely useless!

Based on the fact that he has a similar goal-scoring record (and at a much younger age) in the SPL to David Goodwillie.

Anyone counting Goodwillie as a contender for a first team place must obviously consider Blackman as the same!

I was just going to post the same thing.

I think he was top scorer in the SPL, a head of Goodwillie, before he swapped playing up front for Motherwell for playing on the left wing at Aberdeeen last January.

I'd be willing to give him a chance, with a few sub and cup appearances.

You aren't considering, like a lot of other posters on here, the emergence of other young players such as Hanley, Lowe, Morris, and Nick Blackman. And there are more that I think the staff at Rovers have high hopes for. I know people will say they're a gamble and unproven players but they are rated by the club and need to be given a chance. I'm not saying they are first team players but I'd expect Lowe and Blackman to be regulars in the matchday squad and make plenty of appearances.

Also the contribution of these young players can't be any less this season, than some of the players we've lost!

With the five new signings, I'd say we've two more squad players in Lowe and Blackman this season. Morris has a little to do yet, but could step up also.

Blackman isnt good enough and he is out on loan again I hear, watched him pre season and nothing to shout about at all, didnt make any impact for me at all, as for Morris and Lowe, they are representing England at under 20 level so they must have something about them.

But, we need a balance of youth and experience, we have Formica, Rochinia, Goodwillie, Petrovic and Ribeiro who are inexperienced at Premier League level, Hoilett is still a young lad and Olsson not much older, thats seven players and too many to form the nucleus of the team, we need a couple of experienced premier players to settle things down and help us through the season.

Blackman had that half season at Motherwell, Goodwillie has earned an International cap and from what I have seen offers more to his all round game than Blackman, people who I respect in the game and have spoken to, tell me that Goodwillie will annoy opposition defences, he wont go away and wont allow them to settle, his goals vary from tap ins, headers, long range and power, so for me, I think he will prove a useful aquisition.

I don't think he's much worse than David N'Gog who people seem to rate at £3-4m for some reason.

He will need to bulk up a bit but who knows he might be ok with a few games under his belt.

Very true. Unfortunately, it just won't sink in to most on here.

If last years squad was so good, why did we all complain last september and in january that we needed more players and had a threadbare squad that was a few injuries away from a disaster?

We now have less players and if we have any injury problems or sell anymore players we have no experienced backup to rely on. We are expecting lots from our signings but there is no guarantee that they will hit the ground running? If the new serbian midfielder will probably take 6 months to acclimatize so we really need j jones to come back on a 6 month loan deal till then and ease him in gradually.

To be safe we need at least 3-4 new first team players (forward, 2 midfield players and a defender) and at least 2-3 squad players. The problem is that it'll take a while for these players to gel as a unit, hence why settled squads do better. to stand a chance of gelling all of these players needed a full pre season and thus we are at least 4 weeks behind schedule and we won't see any benefit from these players until December when they have settled into the new playing style.

Craig Brown took him to Aberdeen from Motherwell where Brown was Blackmans manager, Blackman didnt score in 9 games as a striker and was left out of the side for a couple of games before returning to the side in a wide position.

Just a point on Gunning, he played every game for Motherwell whilst on loan and is not viewed as a first team squad player, yet Anderson with a five minute cameo performance for Aberdeen has a squad number, strange!

is noone else peed off that we have brought in 2 unproven players before the season start? i am really angry that they have had all summer to do deals and they are leaving things to the last minute. Strikes me as very unproffesional. We are basically going into the season with the same squad, minus our best 2 players from last season, that was fighting relegation for most of it. Theres no freshness about this squad, tired old legs that will probably run out of steam before the end of the game.

I've only seen him play in that Asia Trophy. He simply looked quick. Nothing beyond that stood out about him - besides perhaps that he wasn't shy of having a shot.

I think fustrated is the word. there has been a big power shift at Ewood Park in this summer alone about how muich was available to spend, who would spend it and who would we bring in and most of all who would benefit from this.

Kentaro and SEM were obviously ripping the family off big style and have been gotten rid of it's obvious that they were only looking to make a profit from venkys

they saw us both as easy targets. a family who really didn;t know anything about football in England and could gently back them into a corner and charge the earth for thier players and a club who hungers for success.

I think it;s been a quick turnaround we now have Simon Hunt coming in as Sporting Director who will act as a go between Steve Kean and the owners regarding player recruitment and Paul Hunt who is the Deputy Chief Executive and Anthony Bloch as the new secretary all three new appointments will get our ship back on course and transfers are seemless again they will know how much money the family will input but i will depend on how involved the family is

Sorry Tom, that doesn't wash.

J Jones and P Jones were two of our four best players (alongside Samba who wants out and Hoilett not yet signed to a new contract).

Formica and Rochina were available for many of our last16

games so it doesn't necessarilly follow they will suddenly become top level PL players simply becdesperate for them to become so.

EH Diouf was our best player in the first half of last season whilst the others on your not missed list were hardly stars but did give us something of PL level when they played.

I look forwards to watching the £16m signing Mr Barclays Bank- probably about as much use as Myles Anderson.

Jermaine jones was never our player and the parent club asked too much to sign him. Half truths again eh.
