roversfanben Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Forget Raul we need a team not an individual. The money could be well spent on more depressing areas of the pitch such as the gaping hole in our defence. The money? £4m plus what, £100k per week? Money well spent, IMO. Commercially, he will probably pay that money back in shirt sales alone. He will also show the footballing world that Venky's mean business, and he will attract a better calibre of player to our club. People are so blind when all they look at are his age and his wages.

Also imagine the buzz it would bring to the rest of the players. Defence isn't a worry as much if Samba stays

AspRover Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Forget Raul we need a team not an individual. The money could be well spent on more depressing areas of the pitch such as the gaping hole in our defence. Um, part of that team that we need would be a striker wouldn't it? Why not Raul? Who would you rather have for the money?

pick32 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Forget Raul we need a team not an individual. The money could be well spent on more depressing areas of the pitch such as the gaping hole in our defence. The Hole that will be filled by the returning Givet, Samba and Nelsen? I think the majority of fans just want a striker who will score 10-20 goals a season and within our small budget of 3-6million that striker is RAUL. He is old but he will still get goals and this would also benefit players like Hoilet and Rochina in a learning sense.

Always glass half dammed empty with some people look at the bigger picture and what this could mean, if this comes off and is true which I hope to high heaven it is, then it may well persuade others to come and a certain person to have a Miraculous recovery. :D

We need an individual to put the ball in the net, though i do agree we need a new centre back, but we have good defenders that are injured ,we dont have a good striker injured ,we dont have a proper striker at all .We need raul ,everyone will play better as a team and work twice as hard .
gazsimm Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 http://www.todayonline.com/Sports/EDC110816-0001185/Bolton-wants-veteran-striker-Raul they could never afford his wages lol i will be gutted if he signs for Bolton and not us. It will just prove we are going backwards fast and even the likes of Bolton are a bigger club then us at the moment. I just hope they have misprinted it and it us in for Raul!!
Hughesy Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Anyone that doubts his ability simply has to watch his goal from the last game...quality!

The money could be well spent on more depressing areas of the pitch such as the gaping hole in our defence. After all the crap we have been through in the last few days this is EXACTLY what we we need. It will give the fans, players, everyone a huge boost. I just hope to god that we do sign him because as a Rovers fan I am rock bottom at the moment.

They are quoting the article in Bild - the one which clearly states Blackburn. They got it wrong.
A cup of beans Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Zac mentioned 4m, we only wanted to pay 3m, but that was a few weeks ago. Massive wages also, but that may have changed. i never mentioned wages.. and as i said last week.. im sure his terms must be agreeable for rovers to have taken so long in persuing it! im getting excited!
StanLibuda Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 If true and if my German is as good as it was at o level (15 years ago) then wow! I'm not sure which of the above is more unlikely - it being true or my german being any good! its true. decision will be made by tomorrow 1 PM. another translated source: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=de&sl=de&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.derwesten.de%2Fsport%2Ffussball%2Fs04%2FSchalkes-Ra-l-vor-dem-Absprung-nach-England-id4969118.html I'm sad, if he leaves Schalke, but at least we share the same colours and I wish him all the luck he deserves. Hopefully he wear your shirt as proud as he worn the Schalke-kit. Treat him well, if he joins your club. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwwZhxNh5t0 fast forward to 2:02
Hughesy Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Stan - do us all a favour and confirm it's us and NOT Bolton? Has he left Germany to come for talks?
philipl Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 The logic in going for Raul is presumably to make the club a more attractive destination for other players who are currently giving us the cold shoulder. If this is the case, this move needs to be clinical and quick. Whether he would actually play in Kean's diamond suicide formation is a big question or is he another one to be touted to play in the 4,000 holes behind the main striker? It is Rovers Hughesy.
True Blue & White Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Yep official approach for Raul in Interesting Mr Bond, very interesting...
Nelsta Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Not gettin my hopes up yet......please let this happen!
goodwillie_style Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 CryerRovers Andrew Cryer so Blackburn's move for Raul has finally happened. Bid has been lodged. Schalke_UK Schalke UK fan club Sport Bild quote Horst Heldt as saying that Blackburn wish to commence negotiations with Raul. EWOODACE1 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 i know a lot of people seem happy with this and ill prob get a little red box in the bottom corner of my post but IF venkys are willing to spend some cash i wish it wasnt on a 34 yr old no matter what hes done in his career. if it was a free then fine but what is being reported seems very steep.
Ricky Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I have to agree slightly with ewoodace. BUT if the rumours of only 4m or so to spend on a forward are true then I think it makes sense to go for an experienced head, they don't come more experienced than Raul.
StanLibuda Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Stan - do us all a favour and confirm it's us and NOT Bolton? Has he left Germany to come for talks? can't confirm that. but your sources seems to have more detailed informations than any german newspaper oder football boards. but I can confirm now that he will definitely leave Schalke. http://translate.google.de/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=de&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=en&tl=de&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.recklinghaeuser-zeitung.de%2Fsport%2Fschalke%2FRaul-geht-definitiv%3Bart1278%2C534300 Edit: can somebody give me a hint about the Bolton rumors?
