Normally I would be totally against signing someone of that age for a fee and big wages (as I was against Salgado), but he showed last year that he is still more than capable of scoring at the highest level. I have no doubt that he would be fantastic to have at the club and that he can perform in the premier league. Hopefully the wages will be 'sensible', but we do need a bit of experience in the side and he could do the trick.

Had this been the start of the transfer window and we had bid £4m + large wages for a 34 year old I would have been dubious.

But the fact we have p1ssed around making 'enquiries' until two weeks before the end of the window makes this deal a no-brainer.

We won't get the same sort of guaranteed quality elsewhere for £4m this late in the day...here's to hoping it happens!

Will add the approach for Raul was only an official one yesterday and is NOT one of the bids which Kean points to of being on the table,

Still lots to be done on this, and its really down to the player now to decide if (a) he wants to leave (B) Join Rovers (We are not the only team with interest) © Schalke are sensible over the fee

Be a nice boost and if we follow through the other bids and add Raul to compliment them, it would certainly give us all a much needed boost

4 million is a snip for a player of his quality regardless of his age.

I am praying to the gods that this happens, as i dont think i will have much luck praying to Venkys! :D

4 million is the highest price you should ever pay for a 34 year old striker.

I watched Real all the time from 2003-2004 and he had a lot of quiet games.

At 34 I still wonder how he will do over a whole season, PL is a fast league.

We are so deseprate and he would sell a lot of shirts so I'd be happy, but its a high price rather then a snip.

hi guys first post here. A signing like this will change everything at the club. The fans will be lifted, the players will be lifted, the commercial side will get a boost, potential signings will maybe think twice about rejecting us and the main one for me is an improvement in the starting 11. Maybe the mickey taking opposition might even think twice. More positives than negatives.

Thing is, we have a few young players who have potential (Formica, Ramm, Olsson, Hoilett etc.) who may need someone with a mountain of experience and quality to realy inspire them. When the current 'old hand' is Roberts, a decent enough guy who trys hard but is pretty rubbish, you need an upgrade. Salgado may be finished by now, and reaching the stage where he is turning to coaching, but Raul would still cut the mustard on the pitch.

Having said that, I am with the group who think this will still all fizzle out.

I feel like I'm a child walking down the stairs on Christmas morning. I'm sure I saw a glimpse of the Nintendo 64 in my parent's closet a few days ago, but it could have been the old NES box.....

Getting closer to the living room, I see the box. I hastily open it. It is the N64!! I open it up but there is no console there. I look up at my parent's and they tell me that the N64 wanted to come, showed a real desire about it but they didn't want to pay for it because they found out that paying for things reduced their bank balance.

Get it done Venkys, you couldn't make a better PR move than this.

Raul was the main striker in europe when most of the 20-30 somethings on this board where at school, to have a player of his quality and pedigree play for the team you support (at any age) is a once in a life time opportunity for Rovers fans. I still have to pinch myself when watching us play and realise that that is THE Salgado playing at left back.

Raul has shown over the last 18 months that he can still do it at the highest level, watching him in the champions league last season even showed that he has more to his game than just goal scoring, some of his through balls where amazing.

God I hop we sign him

As good as it would be for ROVERS to sign Raul. It is the defence that needs players. Signing Raul would help in signing other players.

Spot on.

As daft as it sounds this would be more than just signing a 34 year old striker with a great track record.

The profile of the club will be raised and the owners (supposed) ambitious plans may be given more credibility.

There is so many good things about this deal, raising the profile of the club and surely most of the press would find it difficult to put a bad spin on this should it come off. 34? so what, the guy is class and has never truly relied on pace, I can see him playing for two more years.

This deal really needs to happen. AS LONG AS IT IS FROM BALAJI'S POT.

Maybe that's because he plays on the right :D

Raul would be massive for the club, no doubt. As long as we're able to create chances for him then the goals will come. If we can sign another young striker to learn from him then I think we'll look in much better shape, then add one more midfielder and a defender.

Schalke boss Ralf Rangnick has poured cold water on suggestions that Blackburn Rovers have made a move for Raul????

We either have or have not?

I hope so, Im in complete agreement with other members that bringing Raul to Ewood is a great move. The benefits far outweigh any negatives both for the profile of the club & inspiring our younger players.

Guys as we know this would be an incredible signing and boost to Blackburn Rovers, the fact that he wants to come here is a huge confidence boost to everybody involved. It is vital for this to happen, we can attract the better players knowing that Raul is at the club. Schalke cannot stand in his way now that he wants to leave, we have a big chance here....don't mess it up Rovers.
