Backroom Tom Posted August 17, 2011 Backroom Posted August 17, 2011 It's becoming pretty obvious we're unable to negotiate fees for players, so here's what we do. If Samba wants out, tell Spurs we want Bassong and Bentley, plus a bit of cash. It's the only way Spurs can get him anyway since any money they have is required for a striker. Bring Hitzlsperger on a free transfer to add bite to the midfield. Too much weight is being put on Petrovic's shoulders, he might take time to settle. Get Roque back from City. God knows where he is in the pecking order - surely they'll just want rid at this stage, even if they have to contribute to it financially. He did look good in spurts last season and I think he'd fit perfectly into the new system we play. Get some cover for defence. Onuoha on loan would be ideal as he can cover right across the back four. Robinson Onuoha Bassong Givet Olsson N'Zonzi . Hitzlsperger Bentley .. Formica .. Hoilett Santa Cruz Bunn, Salgado, Nelsen, Hanley, Bruno, Emerton, Petrovic, Grella, Dunn, Pedersen, Rochina, Roberts, Goodwillie (Anderson, Henley, Lowe, Morris, Blackman) See...easy. The only outlay there is wages, but as we've let 11 players leave and only signed 3 (can't imagine Goodwillie, Petrovic, or Bruno being on that much either), that shouldn't be a problem. As unspectacular as it all sounds I'd be happy with that, worst case scenario is Samba is sold for cash as we know what happens then.
chris Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Yeh! read that the other day, possible meaning that Forlan would be made surplus. I'd have Forlan over Raul three years younger.
T4E Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Step 1 - Call Diego Forlan, tell him you want to sign him to play up front with Raul. Step 2 - Call Raul, tell him you want to sign him to play up front with Diego Forlan. Step 3 - Book them both on flights to land in Manchester at the same time. Step 4 - Sign them both. Step 5 - Win League. Piece of ######.
A cup of beans Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Zaccaius: Any news on Raul? sadly not. yet...

Onuoha heading for new pastures according to Nicko last night, I see Everton have made an approach for a loan deal so maybe that is the team Nicko was referring to. That team would be interesting AFB's overlapping Hoilett and Bentarse. I think you are pretty close on Hitz, we are allegedly looking at a freebie depending on wage demands, there are not to many left that would fit the bill in MF.

Nelsta Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Could well be, someone mentioned that a premiership defender we were after was good at playing anywhere across the back 4. Onouha fits that bill....it's going to be one of those days again!
LeChuck Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 That team would be interesting AFB's overlapping Hoilett and Bentarse. Obviously my tongue was firmly in cheek with a lot of the post, but I do think overlapping full backs works brilliantly in a system where there are two holding midfielders. Especially when the wingers like to drift around, as those two do. In tough games we could become more defensive by asking Onouha to stay back (shouldn't be hard for a natural CB) and put Givet at left back with Nelsen in the middle. I just don't hold out any hope that we can negotiate deals involving transfer fees at this stage. Petrovic and Goodwillie weren't exactly smooth transactions, and dragged on a fair bit. It's at the stage now where we desperately need numbers who can come in and play straight away. All four I mentioned are proven PL players.
Iceman Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 forget these big fees, i agree with LeChuck. Now is the time to bring in some decent players, who will still improve the team. Bentley, Onouha, RSC, Bassong, Hitzelperger, Kranjcar and maybe even Gibson would at least give us options to choose from. Right now, we are going nowhere slowly, when there are teams like Spurs and City, where we can go to find players. I know wages will be issues, but we need players in before Saturday.
Hughesy Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Athletico agree fee for Osvaldo 17m€ Kun's replacement, should keep Forlan happy. Forlan is rumoured to be off to Inter if they sign Falcao as Kun's replacement. Could it be us? Possibly - although im also aware of another defender we want, from the U.S (Direct from Kean last night)
67splitscreen Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Forlan is rumoured to be off to Inter if they sign Falcao as Kun's replacement. Not gonna fill his boots then.
rog of the rovers Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Possibly - although im also aware of another defender we want, from the U.S (Direct from Kean last night) Is Eddie Pope coming out of retirement?
scunnyrover Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Dont know if anyone's mentioned him but in the mirror this morning it says kean wants Luke wilkshire from dinamo Moscow, can't post link because am on my phone but its in the paper this morning. Anybody know what wilkshire is like?
rog of the rovers Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Didnt Wilkshire play at Boro and Bristol City? Hardly cracked it here, so would be a confusing choice.
scunnyrover Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Didnt Wilkshire play at Boro and Bristol City? Hardly cracked it here, so would be a confusing choice. Yer just looked at his wiki page. Very strange if we do go for him. Would be yet another squad player. Hopefully its just lazy journalism
Iceman Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 should have taken a chance on Wayne Bridge and Matthew Upson. i know, not the greatest, but both brings with them experience
imy9 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Yer just looked at his wiki page. Very strange if we do go for him. Would be yet another squad player. Hopefully its just lazy journalism Don't know last 5 years have been good, two years in the Dutch league with Twente and then three in top league in Russia. Just turned 30, decent player, no more no more less.
scunnyrover Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Nah not Wayne bridge, if we got him on loan we would have to pay 90 k a week for his wages so imagine what his wages are like if you bought him. And only really an average/good player
pick32 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Possibly - although im also aware of another defender we want, from the U.S (Direct from Kean last night) Watched some late night MLS and the only defender that springs to mind is Tim Ream is it him?

Possibly - although im also aware of another defender we want, from the U.S (Direct from Kean last night) From the US? Blimey thats a curious one.. Do you have the name? I would guess someone like Omar Gonzalez, I seem to remember us having interest in him in the past but there is no way the lad would get a work permit (unless under the special player rules).
Makey11 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 The yank were interested in plays for fc Dallas.
