There's really no pleasing some on here. If we sign someone for 2-3 million then it is a gamble. If we sign someone for 10 million we would be overpaying.

Vukcevic is a very good player. He's extremely talented, but he is a bit of a head case. If he didn't have the history of trouble then he would probably be signing for a bigger club. He could turn out to be a very good player, he could turn out to be a poor signing, but that is the case whenever you bring in a new player. Odds are that he will at least be decent and he will bolster our squad and give us something a bit different. He replaces Diouf as the versatile midfielder.

For £2 million a 'gamble' like that seems entirely worth it. He's still young and, as I said about a week ago, it may also help Petrovic settle in.

Nor is all the negativity. Not saying you are being negative, and not saying your point isn't correct but 'he looks like he might be good' is hardly getting majorly carried away. Some of the players do look like they may be good. It's certainly useful getting some bodies in, we'll see their true abilities when they play but right now it's natural to make predictions.

You've missed my point. That was representative of comments AFTER the name is known. The BEFORE comments are like "Defoe has been spotted", and other nonsense. This means that in most cases the actual name, however good, is always an anti-climax.

I'd rather be quietly impressed with a shrewd move that seeing it as second prize, and it could be so easily avoided.

I still think we need PL quality/experience.

At this stage, we are so short of players, I am at the point that I almost don't care who we sign so long as we actually get them on board.

I suspect trying to get a bunch of players with zero PL/English football experience playing together will involve an element of pot luck given SK's well known inadequacies but at least let's get bodies chucked into the pot.

If Kamy is right that it took the Wolves defeat to get Venky's to wake up to how thin the squad is, they are not so much behind the curve as been hiding behind the beech ball.

If I read that correctly, you seemed to carry a hint of optimism :)

What's going on???

While it's nice to see us picking up players and certainly Ibi and Vuk are pretty good, but I thought most people agreed on here we needed some EPL experience, a striker now (not in 6-8 weeks), an experienced central defender and midfielder with some metal.

At the end of the day these lads no matter how decent they do not fill any of these requirements.

Still it will be nice seeing Vuk, Lansbury, Dunn, Rochina, Formica and jnr battling away for those attacking midfield/second striker births.

All those years without a creative attacker and all of a sudden we have a boat load of em :)

Still desperatly need a scorer now having Roberts in there won't help any of these lads confidence if every ball they thread through gets wasted.. so hoping this run on players continues (Raul, Yobo and JJ please lol).

Cheers for that Den ha ha! I just felt it was harsh giving him negatives for his own opinion on signings - which we're all entitled to.

I'm personally very happy with the names we've been linked with.

- Cue the negative feedback :)

I think it's more that negativity breeds negativity, and the way you put forward your opinions (in this case it's a poster who continuously posts with a negative slant) has an effect on your popularity points. Your post was clearly defined and made perfect sense so I doubt many will argue with you. I'm not arguing, just suggesting why people may disagree with you.

I agree this isn't the rovers we know, usualy we struggle for creativity now we have it in abundance, Hopefully we will have Petrovic, Nzonzi and try and get J.Jones back to anchor the midfield and allow the attacking players the freedom.

Ah, fair enough I see what you mean.

My advice would be to not believe the messageboard until something actually happens. I sure don't. Then when something does happen, disregard all the rubbish that had been leaked in the past and look at the transfer logically and decide whether you think they will be a success. Then put that on the back burner once more and actually watch the player play for half a season.

It's funny that for the past few years as far as I have been concerned we have needed some creative flair. Now it seems that is all we are signing...

We desperately need a good striker as you could create for Roberts all day and night without him scoring.

Or he could hold the ball up brilliantly and lay it to one of the creative sorts as he did at the weekend...

But yes, having a striker ahead of him would be nice.

Vukcevic is a great player at times (without a doubt can turn a game single handed), but from what I know about him he has a few personality issues and his career has been hampered by the fact that he is a little bit selfish in his play, his form is eratic and he is a bit of a fancy dan.

A good friend of mine who follows the league called him a highlights player, those lads who when you watch match highlights who always looks great but in a full match is annonymous for large periods of the game. He also isn't the sort of player who will be happy sitting on the bench, and given the attacking lads we have that is likely to happen.

Is Lansbury a permanent move then??? I think the volume of transfers is encouraging as much as the quality of the signings. If we can bring in a decent striker, Lansbury and Vukcinic then I'd say that its the most exciting Rovers team attacking wise we have had in 10 years or so. Two defenders in as well, either on loan or perm, and I think I'd feel that this transfer window has finally been something of a moderate success. The only question is, why has it taken this long to get things going??

If we get Wilson on loan and Vukcevic on a permanent deal then it's a good start. Vukcevic especially is a great talent.

I think we still desperately need cover/competition for N'Zonzi and Petrovic. With all these attacking midfielders we're going to need a solid base behind them; Pedersen and Dunn just don't cut it I'm afraid. Grella would be ideal if he could keep himself fit.

Difficult to know how we're going to line-up really, but I'd hope it is something like this...

................... Robinson

Emerton Samba Givet Olsson

......... N'Zonzi .. Petrovic

.. Hoilett ... Formica .. Vukcevic

..................... ??????

Bunn, Salgado, Wilson, Nelsen, Hanley, Riberio, ??????, Grella, Dunn, Pedersen, Rochina, Goodwillie, Roberts

If Onouha arrives then he can slot in at RB, with the option of going to CB if we have injuries. We'd have to shift someone out though, if Wilson arrives that's a lot of defenders already on the books.

If you believe that Defoe was spotted in Postal Order than your life must be full of anti-climactic moments.

I still say that our best option at left back may be MGP. He is certainly a decent defender and I'd be interested to see him tried out there. He's a better defender than Olsson and would probably be a better left back than Givet.

Don't agree. Way too slow! A wuzz in tackles.

Years of crying out for more creativity, from the days of Souness, probably before him, and with every manager since.

Now creativity is being touted, first as an idea, and now - we hope - with signings to match that ambition.

Question is: are the fans in front of or behind the curve?

Could be time for some serious re-consideration of first principles.

Never mind the pies... :P

Totally agree.

Olsson is brave in the tackle and not afraid to stick his head where he might get hurt. He's got to work on his positional sense but he has far more natural defensive attributes than Pedersen.

It's ok mate, I'm with you. Jal getting so many negatives, when in reality hardly anyone - if anyone at all - have seen these lads play. But, plenty of people have already made judgements about them.

These couldn't be the Rovers Fan club, could they?
