T4E Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Question is: are the fans in front of or behind the curve? Why do people keep talking like this? "Behind the curve" - what the f**k is that? Management bullshit, speak English man! Oh yeah, on topic.....Vukcevic FTW.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Decent player, just hope that we still are going to strengthen the priority areas as well - 1-2 defenders and at least 1 striker. Just wondering if the lad has had two bust-up's at two different clubs is Kean a strong/respected enough manager to keep him in line?
P_Rover Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Totally agree. Olsson is brave in the tackle and not afraid to stick his head where he might get hurt. He's got to work on his positional sense but he has far more natural defensive attributes than Pedersen. Completely agree as well. Pederson is way too soft and his tracking back for Wolves first goal this weekend was a disgrace. He only tends to offer a decent cross now and again and the odd good dead ball. Too much of a passenger for me.
braddock Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I still say that our best option at left back may be MGP. He is certainly a decent defender and I'd be interested to see him tried out there. He's a better defender than Olsson and would probably be a better left back than Givet. NO
sparkspakespoke Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 It's ok mate, I'm with you. Jal getting so many negatives, when in reality hardly anyone - if anyone at all - have seen these lads play. But, plenty of people have already made judgements about them. These couldn't be the Rovers Fan club, could they? Surely that logic works both ways in that Jal has made a negative judgement before they have played? Rovers Fan club, Miserable as hell club, both seem to have made their decision and are sticking to it regardless.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Has anyone got a firmer grasp on who the striker that's having a medical today is??
chris Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Olsson gets exposed at left back, I always worry when he plays there, I only think he has stood out at Blackburn when he has played left midfield, rather then getting skinned at left back. If I was a riveal manager I woiuld say at the moment, target Olsson, he will make mistakes.
Hughesy Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Has anyone got a firmer grasp on who the striker that's having a medical today is?? Yes we knew that one last night - its the one from Bundesliga - Ibisevic or whatever his name is.
Stuart Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 If you believe that Defoe was spotted in Postal Order than your life must be full of anti-climactic moments. Very funny that. Did you miss the bit where I cited it as an example of nonsense?
joey_big_nose Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 If we get Wilson on loan and Vukcevic on a permanent deal then it's a good start. Vukcevic especially is a great talent. I think we still desperately need cover/competition for N'Zonzi and Petrovic. With all these attacking midfielders we're going to need a solid base behind them; Pedersen and Dunn just don't cut it I'm afraid. Grella would be ideal if he could keep himself fit. Difficult to know how we're going to line-up really, but I'd hope it is something like this... ................... Robinson Emerton Samba Givet Olsson ......... N'Zonzi .. Petrovic .. Hoilett ... Formica .. Vukcevic ..................... ?????? Bunn, Salgado, Wilson, Nelsen, Hanley, Riberio, ??????, Grella, Dunn, Pedersen, Rochina, Goodwillie, Roberts If Onouha arrives then he can slot in at RB, with the option of going to CB if we have injuries. We'd have to shift someone out though, if Wilson arrives that's a lot of defenders already on the books. Theoretically that is the basis for a good side but has three real major questions:- 1) Won't Olsson and Emerton be easily beaten at full back? I like Martin too but against Wolves when we had a very fragile defence he still spent most of the game in the opponenets half. He seems to find it really hard to hold his ground, always looking for the overlap.... Emerton has many of the same problems as a right back, plus being weak in the tackle and poor in the air. 2) Is Petrovic actually going to be any good? If he isn't we are in trouble as we are desperately thin in central midfield. 3) Whose the stiker going to be? If you stick a Raul or a Cisse up there we begin to look like a genuinely good team. If we stay with Roberts or Goodwillie things suddenly don't look very convincing...

If I was a riveal manager I woiuld say at the moment, target Olsson, he will make mistakes. Easiest route will still be targetting Salgado on pace.

I like Martin too but against Wolves when we had a very fragile defence he still spent most of the game in the opponenets half. He seems to find it really hard to hold his ground, always looking for the overlap.... To be fair, both full-backs were dangerously exposed on Saturday because we had no protection in midfield. I do see where you're coming from, though. He has looked shaky there in the past, but some of our best performances last year had him at left-back. Something I didn't quite believe, at first.
Oklahoma Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I'm a little worried if the striker is Ibisevic. Still injured. As for the PL experience that so many of you mention, just two names for you: Roque Santa Cruz Benni McCarthy No PL experience before and did their best season in the PL was the first...
Veevs Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Kind of agree with both sides of the argument with Olsson.. like leChuck I reckon he will learn the positional part of being a left back, but our best games (and his) last season saw him on the left wing. Does look like Kean wants him at LB mind (given the targets we have been after) so argument kind of irrelevant. But to be frank at the moment, a central defender, a striker who can score and a midfielder with metal are much more important.
Drover Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Wold love some players that have proven themselves in Spain, Italy or England. Look what happened with Grella

And when Santa returned with experience he was a flop.
broadsword Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Why do people keep talking like this? "Behind the curve" - what the f**k is that? Management bullshit, speak English man! You've been thrown a behind-the-curve ball. (Or perhaps a behind the curve beachball.)
LeChuck Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 1) Won't Olsson and Emerton be easily beaten at full back? There's no reason why they should be. Almost every other PL team uses players with winger qualities at full back. Emerton's best spell at this club was at full back, that was in a team challenging for the top six. We know he can play well there. I'd worry more about Salgado than I would Emerton. Olsson is still learning but has natural characteristics to be an excellent full back. With proper midfield protection I think he'll be great. It's hard to judge him from the Wolves game because that midfield left us ridiculously exposed.

neophox Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Kamy: Is the striker who is due for medical someone to get excited about?
newfan Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 brfc_uk Kevin Mills @ @CryerRovers @paulplunkett66 any sign of a defender coming in soon? 47 minutes ago in reply to ↑ Andrew Cryer @CryerRovers Andrew Cryer @brfc_uk @paulplunkett66 yes, close
neophox Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I agree with using MGP at left back. He could be useful in freekicks, throwings and set pieces and use Olsson at wing with his pace. MGP is quite good in defending too.
chris Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Look what happened with Grella He's a total sick note, there no way we know how he would have done if he had played regularly and he came from a struggling team and a fairly low fee. Not really a fair example to squash my desire for a proven striker with experience of banging in goals at the top level.
