callumrovers Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 The defender coming for the medical is George John from Fc Dallas. He has got dual nationality Greek/American. Dont know how hard work permit will be to obtain if he has been capped by the US? WIkipedia says he was invited to a greek training camp. If he goes for the greek nationality we will have no issues.

Jay-Rovers Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 We didn't manage to get Petrovic registered in time despite him signing on the Tuesday! Wasnt he away on international duty around the thursday time? just wondering as thats probly why he didnt play on sat. I could be wrong.
Neal Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 At the moment I'm more worried about Spurs. They’re broke currently, but once the Modric deal with Chelsea is agreed that will kick start the transfer market into action and could see them going for Samba. Time will tell. I could be wrong, but i think Chelsea have started to look at alternatives to Modric recently. I hear they have had a bid for Mata rejected today. I think the only way Samba would leave is that if decent quality players were to come the other way and some cash to add. Anyway, let's not worry ourselves about something that is relatively quiet at the moment, as players look to be arriving... I recon we can afford ourselves a little optimism.
he6rt6gr6m Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Hitzlsperger signs for Wolfsburg, probably a replacement for Diego. Boat missed.

How have you found this out? Never heard of him, and there's not much around on the internet either. All I can find is that he plays centre back or defensive midfield, which is exactly where we need cover.
Emge Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I disagree. I think he's been told to come off twitter because of all the Arsenal and Tottenham fans asking him the same old question, making him unsettled. I'm with Neal. He'll be here come the end of the window, but we'll struggle to keep him in January when Arsenal are mid-table and desperate. Hopefully, we'll be above them, and Samba will look down his nose at them. Well, obviously I really hope you guys are right =) Nothing would delight me more if he stayed! But I have prepared myself for the worst now I think, should the vultures come knocking Anyway, excited about all the activity thats emerged so fast lately! Must have been the wolves-game that opened their eyes!
TheTMX Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Makey, the work permit hearing was on the Tuesday. At that stage he had a work permit yet we still didnt manage to get him registered in time. Having him available on Saturday could have made a difference as we didn't have one midfielder who could tackle!! Once the work permit was sanctioned he still had to get a visa which involved going to embassies to get stamped. Not sure if he had to go back to Serbia to get this done but it meant he wasn't registered in time.
A cup of beans Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 right maybe i've missed something because ive spent the last 45mns whizzing through these pages since the exitment broke about 5pm last night , but , i'm sure Kamy or Zacc or someone said we were in for 2 defenders 1 young on loan ( i.e wilson or boyata ) and 1 in his 30's small fee ...thats not onouha then is it true.. its not nedum! kamy said that 2 defenders stuff yesterday.
AJW Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/9203996.Kean_confirms_Vukcevic_due_for_medical_today/ if Vucevic signs in time for villa game and we get Samba or Nelsen back too i would feel a lot more confident of getting something there

If he goes for the greek nationality we will have no issues. he played for FC Dallas very late last night (match started 2am or 3am british time)... when is he to come in for a medical? he has played for neither of them so he could use his greek passport to secure a work permit, and still play for US later on right, I believe Jay Demerit did something similar.
MarkBRFC Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I thought it was a striker coming in for a medical?

Was revealed last night... Doubt hel sign before Saturday tho as he played for Dallas in Mexico last night in champions league.
glen9mullan Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Makey was spot on and Hughes too, George John is indeed going to have talks/medical with Rovers, Thumbs up guys on that, as I had not heard the name until you lot posted it last night, but its checked out
Kamy100 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 There have been no fresh bids for Samba (as of this morning) and he is fighting to be fit fit for Saturday.
he6rt6gr6m Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Gilardino to Genoa?! €11m up-front. I'd take him over Amauri and Iaquinta.
Makey11 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Once the work permit was sanctioned he still had to get a visa which involved going to embassies to get stamped. roversfanben Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 West Brom now linke to Onuoha http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11698_7109518,00.html Our offer is supposed to be a permanent deal, good!
B75 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Hitzlsperger signs for Wolfsburg, probably a replacement for Diego. Boat missed. Where is Diego going now that would be a signing
AJW Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 so is George John the "young defender" then ?? are we still in foe thr 30 something defender?
BangkokRover Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I know you love your finances, the bloke is worth around £200 million, dont expect him to spend too much cash. But probably willing to put more money in to the club than Venkys
he6rt6gr6m Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Where is Diego going now that would be a signing Isn't Diego a free agent now? Had serious attitude problems while he was there apparently, and Wolfsburg had had enough. I suggested him a while back after seeing him get turfed out unfairly at Juventus. I'd even take a gamble with his attitude because he is an awesome play-maker. EDIT: He's still at Wolfsburg but close to moving to Atletico Madrid.
PAFELL Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 That's a fair point. But rather than worry myself with such a thought i'll just be happy with it if it comes off. I genuinely believe Samba will be here at the end of the transfer window, Wenger won't want to spend what we're asking for on a 27 year old defender. Vermahlen and Koscielny performed well at Newcastle and even had Djorou spare on the bench so... Here's hoping. I think it may depend on who Rovers sign and Samba staying. Also Spurs interest. If they sell Modric to chelsea, they'll have money to spend. But if Rovers have filled in the gaps they want filling, such as 2 defenders, midfielder and striker and they are still interested in doing a cash and players exchange deal, then it could be interesting. But you never know Rovers may have got the players in that they want, which would lesson any pressure to sell. The price for Samba would just go up and up.
A cup of beans Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 There have been no fresh bids for Samba (as of this morning) and he is fighting to be fit fit for Saturday. cheers kamy.. thats what i heard before (posted in villa thread) good that youve backed it up. also.. ive just had a "cant tell you" txt from a source. rovers trying to keep a deal quiet. you heard anything.
Rover & Out Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I don't know what people think of the Castrol Index but it has George John at No.3 behind Landon Donovan and Thierry Henry. Basically, he's been statistically the 3rd best player in MLS this season which is good going for a defender.
