BiggusLaddus Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I don't get why Samba would want to move to Spurs anyway... Apologies for the crop. I'm sure I remember nicko saying last time we played the Samba dance that cash is king for him and that when he thinks of a big money move, he's really thinking of a big money signing on fee. And they are a bigger club and based in London... etc.

BPF Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 How does an injured striker pass a medical? Furthermore, I'm not seeing a whole lot to be positive about here. We desperately need a striker! Not one that is injured until October! I'm pleased with the squad being improved but what is the point of having a talented winger is there is noone there to finish...
Stevo Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Is the striker in the Dutch league Bryan Ruiz? I guess he is a back up to the Ibisevic deal if it is him?
rovers_rob Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 What's the point in having Roberts and Goodwillie if they're not good enough to play? I'd be happy if we could replace Blackman as fourth choice, but only after the other positions have been filled. I haven't got a problem with Goodwillie, Roberts or Ibisevic but I still think we need another striker. I know we are not going to sign Raul or anyone like that but it is a gamble to spend money on an unproven striker (in the premier league) that is injured. Chances are it will take time for him to settle in as well so we might not see any return until next year. Maybe one of the loan signings will be a striker ?
glen9mullan Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Totally agree, better to wait until things are at an advanced stage. Yup there have hundreds of players linked this summer!! Totally agree, and you are quite correct, Holland is the hunting ground, Great work once again Makey n Kammy, Been a busy old 48 hours
Guest ljb Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 im a bit confused i thought glenn said that Vukavic wasn't the biggy signing and it was the main striker, but i don't see Vedad Ibišević as a big signing , is this the big signing everyone has been keeping close to there chest for months cause it wasn't really worth getting all excited about or is something else in the pipeline that will get the rovers fans excited
hawkiiz Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Are you joking, I'd walk out on Blackburn in a second for Spurs, even if I supported and played for Blackburn Rovers, ambition is more important, I'd have no loyalty to fans. He is 27, Spurs will achieve alot more then we will in the next 3-4 years. We are signing fairly unknown players trying to build a team on the cheap, Spurs have much better players and spent hundreds of millions. Rooney made a big decision leaving Everton, but ambition rules and he has enjoyed crazy success. I agree players will choose Spurs over Rovers, but I honestly can't see the logic other than it being in London. what will Spurs achieve in the next 4 years though? They will achieve Europa league at the very best, but even that is hard now. They will finish above us on the table, but they won't win anything.

Pretty sure they take a scan of the player's knees etc and make sure there are no degenerative conditions. He wouldn't pass a fitness test, but then we're not expecting him to.
glen9mullan Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Glen, am told Ibisevic is first choice, other guy is backup. Agree strange decision as Ibisevic is injured and is not prolific. This is why I couldnt get my head around in it cause the interest in the other was before Ibisevic, Either way I'm thrilled, Ibisevic before his injury a couple of years ago was a goal a game man for Hoffeiniem and he is now getting back to his best before he did his thigh, He is exactly what we are looking for and his style will suit the English game, with all these IC'S no wonder we had to let Niko go, we of been a commentators nightmare,

I'm willing to bet Spurs win nothing and don't qualify for the Champions League again within the next three years if you're up for it?
MarkBRFC Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Surely we can find a good, fit striker to come i before the window shuts. Completely pointless signing a injured one, it will be new year before he's fully up to speed.
Miker Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Totally agree, and you are quite correct, Holland is the hunting ground, Great work once again Makey n Kammy, Been a busy old 48 hours My guess is Toivonen. ... Or more accurately, I hope it's Toivonen because that guy is class.
Billy Castell Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Now Glen, Kamy and Makey have finished their public PM conversation, we non-ITK people can ponder about who they're on about. All I hope is that they're more of a Van Niistelroy than a Kezman. (I'm going for Janko, the new Luca Toni). And does the home grown rule only apply to Europe?

All I hope is that they're more of a Van Niistelroy than a Kezman. (I'm going for Janko, the new Luca Toni). And does the home grown rule only apply to Europe? By the sounds of it, there are no more exciting names in the pipeline?

Billy, problem solved, nip over to vital Blackburn, they have all the news before BRFCS according to roversfanben Sorry, sorry mods, I couldn't help that one
True Blue & White Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 How does an injured striker pass a medical? The same way Downing passed his on crutches at Villa. There is a big misconception about medicals. Medicals are not done to find current injuries or minor scrapes, they are done for Insurance puporses and are designed only to find serious problems that could end a player's career early and end up with the insurance company having to pay the club compensation.
AmazinTim Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Is it a concern that we're not signing any English players? Are we fulfilling our homegrown players criteria with this current squad? Was thinking the same. This may be a stupid question, but do Scottish, Irish, or Welsh players count as homegrown?
he6rt6gr6m Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 "Names have not been mentioned as the club looks to protect their bids amidst fears of hijacking/rumour mongering." - Vital Football. Exactly what I've said previous, and maybe some members should take heed when asking for names and prices from insiders. Do you WANT us to get hijacked?
Guest ljb Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 It terms of fee, and impact on the team the striker will always be the biggy IMO, He will cost the most so on that basis, my quote Vukcevic is not the biggy, Also I did say the striker was a new name, which over the last 24 hours has proved to be, Still lots of if's n buts yet as it is Rovers we are talking about, but I'm sure more feel a little better than they did this time last week so a striker who wont probably be ready till october, then will take time to get up to the speed of the prem which is very hard to do for any player and he could also have set backs with the injury, so really he wont be totally ready untill january and by then with no proven goal scorer in the team we could be in the same situation as last season, we need a goal scorer NOW, its taken them 3 months looking all across europe and this is the best they can come up with is someone to keep grella company, got a bad feeling about this guy he seams injury prone as well looking at his wiki page
farhanology Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I was thinking if we might be interested in El Hamdaoui (196 apps - 101 goals, all apps) or Ola Toivonen (75 apps since 2009 - 34 goals) Both with 1 in 2 goal ratios.
he6rt6gr6m Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Is it a concern that we're not signing any English players? Are we fulfilling our homegrown players criteria with this current squad? Said this exact same thing to @Northern_Rover early this morning. If we qualify for Europe, Venky's have no option but to buy English players due to the rules.

I was gonna say the same (El Hamdaoui) especially since he looks to be leaving, most likely to Fulham.
