farhanology Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Said this exact same thing to @Northern_Rover early this morning. If we qualify for Europe, Venky's have no option but to buy English players due to the rules. But we are not also breeding local talents to come good as a midterm strategy too? Jones came good, Hanley, Lowe, Hanley, Ollson, Hoilett - you get the drift Our promising youngsters are British, and we are rumoured to take young British (Lansbury, etc.) on loan..

imy9 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 so a striker who wont probably be ready till october, then will take time to get up to the speed of the prem which is very hard to do for any player and he could also have set backs with the injury, so really he wont be totally ready untill january and by then with no proven goal scorer in the team we could be in the same situation as last season, we need a goal scorer NOW, its taken them 3 months looking all across europe and this is the best they can come up with is someone to keep grella company, got a bad feeling about this guy he seams injury prone as well looking at his wiki page Last four years: 2007-8- 31 games 2008-9- 17 games 2009-10- 34 games 2010-11- 29 games That does not look like an injury prone striker to me- he had a serious injury in the 2008-9 season but aside from that has played a substantial number of league games.

chris Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I'm willing to bet Spurs win nothing and don't qualify for the Champions League again within the next three years if you're up for it? You really think I'm going to engage in a 3 year bet do you, I don't even gamble, expect Poker but thats not gambling when I always win. And its not totally the point, Spurs will compete in the top 6 or 7 and we are relegation favourites. He would join a club that could make the top 4 and probably will make Europe top 6 and realistic could win a cup tournement and progress in Europe. the only better option is Arsenal although they don't look much better then Spurs at the moment. Bale is probably worth more then our Midfield and strikers combined. If he can go he should, hopefully Spurs will not bid though.
steo Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Would have a guess at the player being Amrabat from PSV,wishful thinking
67splitscreen Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Last seasons goal toppers. Vleminckx N.E.C. 23 Bulykin ADO 21 Junker Roda 20 Matavz Groningen 16 Dzsudzsak PSV 16 Toivonen PSV 15 Castaignos Feyenoord 15 Sigthorsson AZ 15 Everton Heracles 15 Van Wolfswinkel Utrecht 15 Wolfswinkle and Goodwillie MOTD dream team. My money is on Matavz.
Waggy76 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Are you joking, I'd walk out on Blackburn in a second for Spurs, even if I supported and played for Blackburn Rovers, ambition is more important, I'd have no loyalty to fans. He is 27, Spurs will achieve alot more then we will in the next 3-4 years. We are signing fairly unknown players trying to build a team on the cheap, Spurs have much better players and spent hundreds of millions. Rooney made a big decision leaving Everton, but ambition rules and he has enjoyed crazy success.
roversfan99 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I assume the Dutch league striker is Tim Matavz.

I don't care if sign 10 Venezuelan internationals so long as they keep us in the PL come May 2012.
bellamy11 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I don't care if sign 10 Venezuelan internationals so long as they keep us in the PL come May 2012. That would be incredible! We have to do this!
stu07 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Keen's been interviewed: Blackburn boss Steve Kean reveals the club are close to signing three players and could even have a new face available for Saturday's trip to Aston Villa. "Last week we had active bids out there and that's progressed," says Kean. "There are bids that have been accepted. We're at a point of having medicals today and tomorrow so that's positive, because it's been slow." Nothing we didn't all know but least it's official now. I dont think we can stop at 3 - think we need 6.
Billy Castell Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 We need 2 strikers in case Badcock gets sent down.
philipl Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 glen9mullan glen mullan Permanent defender on radar as is 2 loan deals, Raul style deal would be an addition to these deals if we get green light for one, Just to reiterate, Vukcevic, George John, Ibisevic expected to sign perm, Another striker back up if Ibisevic dnt pass medical Thanks for the summary Glen. We are still lacking proven PL quality midfield tackling and defensive cover from my perspective.
Nelsta Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 SKYSPORTSNEWS, coming up Steve Kean talks about Raul.
BiggusLaddus Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Home grown 8 from England of which 4 trained at the club isn't it? If so: Club = Olsson, Hanley, Dunn, Hoillet. England other = Robinson, Bunn, Roberts, Blackman. Has Hanley been in England for 3yrs yet? If not then another young reserve can make up the place.

Think Scots and Welshies count as home grown anyway iirc.
rovgers Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 We need 2 strikers in case Badcock gets sent down. I don't understand, why would he? If your talking about the civil case, then I'm sure a civil case wouldn't lead to a jail sentence. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on law would be able to clear that up.

Eddie Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Anderson probably qualifies (shudder). Seen him play?

Rover & Out Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I guess 'active bids' are like buses, you wait for one to be accepted and then a couple more get accepted at once.
stu07 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Just scrolled back in the pages but couldn't find the post about QPR manager Warnock having british targets. I think this shows the difference - experienced manager Warnock wants to bring in proven players - who will affect the side on the field. Keen targets players who aren't proven in the Premiership - now don't get me wrong just cause they haven't played here doesn't mean they wont make an impact but you can certainly see why Warnock has been in a job for years. I dont see Keen staying in a job for as long as him.
