We arent as far along with Ibisevic as we thought. All other names that have been suggested are also on here. Onouha though looks to be dead, which I think we all wanted to happen because he can play anywhere along the back and he's top draw.

I love how the usual suspects derive pleasure from painting doomsday scenarios. If these signings go through we'd probably have the best squad since 2003.

Have you seen any of them play - apart from on YouTube ? I'm looking forward to seeing these lads in action but I'll reserve judgment until they show what they can do. Any one of them could be a Samba or Santa Cruz - but equally they could be an Andrews or Grella.

Show me a player who has come back after such injury and not suffered a drop in pace.

Look at three Rovers - Shearer, Reid, Emerton. Before Shearer suffered his cruciate, he was very, very quick - anyone remember the goals against Norwich & Arsenal at Ewood in that first season (they couldn't live with his pace). More recently, no one can argue that Emerton's pace hasn't dipped since he returned.

I think I read somewhere that major advancements have been made in science that ensure players recover quicker and better, someone like Maji would be qualified to answer that.

Emerson maybe that he is 32 years as to the reason his pace has lessened.

THey can't resist a dig by referring to Raul as desperate to join Blackburn.

Little old Blackburn with its cobbled streets, flat caps, whippets, dirty faced matchstick sellers and victorian workhouses.

Nowhere is the word desperate mentioned in any quotes

Shearer was never that quick, he was strong and held off defenders. Came back just as strong.

Rewrite history if it suits your negativity.

Lets buy old players who have made it in the PL and are slowing down with age and the burden of carrying over-stuffed wallets for years. That's the way forward.

Could say the same for most signings, Messi looked good on youtube, turned out ok.

Funnily enough there is ample opportunity to watch foreign players these days, plus they tend to be scouted.

Mass communications. Wonderful thing.

Watch this vid of Ibisevic & his mate....we need them both!!! Veda's goals take up the 1st 5 1/2 mins

You talking about the guy on the left wing Senijad Salihović? I would be delighted if we got that guy. He's one of the best players in the Bundesliga. He has a brilliant left foot and is a master from deadballs. He plays for Bosnia too, so maybe Vedad could have a word with him and he could come too!

As for the transfers, I'd be happy with most of the players that are being mentioned joining the team. I think that Vukčević, Lansbury and Ibišević would make a real difference to our team and would add more quality to our midfield and forward line. Bringing in players like Wilson or Boyata on loan would give us valuable cover in defence. Are we still looking to bring in another striker if we get Ibišević? Is that what all the Raul rumours are about? My only worry would be that as good as these players are, what happens if we are struggling in the league, who amongst them will bring the experience and steal needed to drive us on? That's why keeping Samba and having Nelsen and Robinson around is so important.

But looking at a squad and team that is made up like this is far more encouraging than what we had been dealing with:

Robinson/Bunn

Salgado/Boyata?, Samba/Hanley/Wilson?, Nelsen/John?, Givet/Olsson

Petrovic/Dunn N'Zonzi/Lansbury?

Hoillet/Emerton Formica/Vukcevic Pedersen/Rochina

Roberts/Goodwillie/Ibišević?/Raul?

I take it that you never so him play then in 19992 ?

My post was a response to the previous poster proclaiming this the best Rovers squad since 2003. I have no doubt Rovers have done their homework but I regarded that poster's judgment to be premature. Understanding basic English is a wonderful thing too so please don't try to be clever - it doesn't suit you.

Shearer was very quick as a young player but that was before YouTube so it probably doesn't count in your book.

Come off it, his first couple of years at the club he was rapid- all added to the fact he was the greatest striker I had ever seen in the flesh.

I don't want to get into a great debate but the examples of Rovers players you use are not particularly good. I disagree about Shearer, he relied on power rather than pace, Reid had every injury known to man so to use the ACL injury as an example for losing his pace is futile. Again I don't believe that Emerton was particularly quick but he sustained the injury in his late 20's. IMO the natural slowing down process had already begun.

I have worked with many players who have successfully returned from ACL injuries at Lilleshall and generally (with the right R&R) come back stronger.

Shearer was faster pre-cruciate ligament injury. Balls were being played into the channels for him to run onto. After the injury he became more of a back to goal player. Norwich 7-1 game being a prime example

I hope you mean Norwich was an example of pre-injury Shearer?

Trivia: Who did he shoulder barge into the Darwen End Enclosure in that game?

Kamy. Whats holding up the Ibisevic transfer ?

A bad injury perhaps ? It shows the desperation of the club to land a new striker that they are contemplating signing a player who has a serious injury and will not be available for selection until October at the earliest. The player will then need x number of matches to get back to full fitness so it could be Christmas before he is back to his top level - by which time from Rovers point of view it could be too late. We should look elsewhere.

Isn't it a torn thigh muscle?

Edit: Yup just checked his web site and he says it's his thigh.

Yeah sorry, meant to say that he was rapid in that game! Not sure about the barge. Mark Bowen? I remember the Jimmy Carter barge v Arsenal!!
