Without knowing too much about these potential singings, or the detail of the transfers themselves, it appears to be good business – credit to Kean (and whoever it is getting the deals done).

Hopefully most of the new players can hit the ground running and settle in quickly.

Still key that we keep Samba, I know the creative players excite fans more however very important we can keep defensively solid.

If we keep Samba i'll be a hell of a lot more optimistic. I can't see anybody paying the asking price because the clubs that are in for him are two tight arse clubs...granted Spurs make up for that via dodgy dealing.

Keep Samba and i'm happy enough with our defense. Lose him and we need two new defenders in pronto.

No. It was not Jimmy Carter. That was the first Premierleauge game at Ewood against Arsenal.

The Norwich player is very well known to us and had a totally different experience the next time he came to Ewood.

Sutton ? I thought it was Daryl Sutch he basically pushed over, before putting a cross over for somebody to score.

Got the entire game on VHS somewhere !

I could have sworn it was Sutton (he was an average centre back in those days). Then he crossed for Wegerle who fell over as he controlled the ball, lit a cigar, had a kip and a brew and then got up and put the ball in the net

Sorry, I miss-read what you asked. I don't recall a famous Shearer shoulder barge against Norwich unfortunately. Just a load of goals. The only famous shoulder barge I remember by "former Newcastle striker" Alan Shearer at Ewood was against Jimmy Carter.

Could say the same for most signings, Messi looked good on youtube, turned out ok.

Funnily enough there is ample opportunity to watch foreign players these days, plus they tend to be scouted.

Mass communications. Wonderful thing.

You're forgetting that Jim doesn't like 'Carlos Kickaballs',whatever that actually means... ;)

Jimmy then took his seat in the Nutall street stand, whilst the ball looped up over Seaman into the back of the net and the Blackburn End went wild.

Blackburn Rovers had arrived in the big time.

My most vivid memory of Shearer was when I was sat in the Riverside and we played Ipswich Town at home, the season we won the league. We won 4-1 with a Shearer hat-trick and his first was from a slip up by Phil Whelan. Shearer was in on goal and as he pulled his foot back to hit it, everyone went quiet, apart from one bloke who shouted "ONE NIL". Seconds later, it was in the back of the net!! There was never a doubt!

Who said it was famous? I just remember it because it was Chris Sutton taking an early seat

I watched that just the other day, converted my King Kenny's Blackburn Magic VHS to DVD, had a bloody lump in my throat watching most of it. How I miss the old Blackburn End :(

Anyway, back to transfers...

Onuoha, John, Lansbury, Vukcevic and Ibisevic please.

I'll be bloody ecstatic if we get those. Maybe one more striker too.

I'd take that list but with maybe the addition of another loan striekr to give us cover until Ibisevic is fit.

I'd be happy with RSC on loan, surely if there's talk of him going to Leicester his demands can't be too unreasonable.

Wouldn't mind Cruz either if the wage was right.

Maybe City are loaning him out and paying his wages etc but refuse to loan to other Premier League clubs. League ruiners.

Kean is finally doing things we have been shouting out for through Hughes, Ince and Sam!

Youth, creativity, pace and change in style!

He has also released some dross and loaned out keef!

Ticks from me! Let's hope people give him a chance to manage the team! I believe Xmas is reasonable!

Very happy with the linked names thus far!!

Agree with this and am going back to the sack him/keep him poll to change my vote.

Let's at least be fair and open minded and see how it all pans out.

No way could Rovers afford me :rover:

Nothing beats Shearers hat-trick goal against QPR to send us top of the league in late 94.

The first 5 rows behind the blackburn end goal ducked as it smashed the crossbar and bounced down over the line. The crossbar shook until Christmas.

Or his hat-trick goal at Elland road the season before. He ran onto Sherwoods flicked free kick and instinctively hit hit low and hard into the corner from 25 yards without even looking. Amazing

What's the signing deadline for playing in the the Carling Cup?

Sames rules as the premier league I believe Den:

6.1 A Player shall be considered bona fide if he is registered by his Club with The Football League, in accordance with the provisions of Football League Regulations or with the Premier League in accordance with The Premier League Rules save that Players registered on a temporary basis will not be eligible to play unless the loaning Club gives its written consent. No player shall play for more than one Club in the Cup Competition in any one Season.

The Premier League rule:

Subject to the provisions of Rule M.1, the deadline for receipt by the Secretary of all duly

completed documents required by these Rules to effect the registration of a Player shall be 12

noon on the last Working Day before the date of the first League Match in which the Club

making the application intends him to play.

So the player needs to be registered by noon on the 23rd August if we want the player to play in the Cup game the following day.

This is one for the know nothing contribute nothing thickos to get their -1 fingers clicking on.

It is great that we have gone from nowhere to having a number of potential acquisitions in progress. But I would warn that we are looking at sometime before all these players will be capable of appearing in Rovers' shirts playing a full 90 minutes and that there has to be the possibility that one or more will wriggle off the hook before we can land them, not least because of the wildly inexperienced team working on the transfers.

It remains the fact that 17 players have left with three more- Grella, Samba and Givet- at risk of going. Two first team contenders have been signed, two bench warmers (if that) have signed, three players not in contention last season- Formica, Rochina and Hanley- have come into contention this season and it looks like we are chasing between four and six more signings.

Add all that together and we are till down on numbers numerically and have to pray deeply that

- we have a good season for few injuries and suspensions

- and that we have an unusually high success rate in bringing players in from outside the PL who find their feet Quickly in our league.

Yes the situation looks brighter than it did on Monday but we have gone from total no hopers to hoping.

I wouldn't get carried away with the idea we are going to have a great season just because we are going to see some new faces. We are also still crippled by having a manager who has proven himself to be as far out of his depth as Ince was.
