tony gale's mic Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 haha the Venkys will like you very much. So basically if RSC scored 20 goals over a season he would get £400,000 where as Roberts would earn 1.5 million per year (based on a salary of 28k)and probably score 4 or 5. 100k per goal would be a good deal for us still. Problem with paying people per goal is that it disregards all the other contributions they might make during the game. He might play a blinder (although unlikely given how rubbish he is now) and not score, or alternatively he might have an awful game and score (again unlikely these days) a tap in. Also there'd be implications with who took the penalties etc. Not really practical.

Ewoodite Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I'm sure Cryers is a valid source, but its clear that Venkys told him many times we had no interest in Raul and that was not true. If the Gibson story is correct then I would expect the truth to come from Man U and Cryers would only find out at a late stage. Cryers is being used a little by Venkys/Rovers but its in the best interest of everyone, we really don't need to know about potneital signings until they have developed. 6 million is too much but I like the player, Tugay, Scoles like goals, goals you'd pay to see. There are quotes from Kean dimissing Gibson around. I think Venkys were right to keep the Raul stuff off radar because it was always fairly unlikely but not sure Venkys are using LT. In fact it looks as though they have been pretty good with them as I would say they have more been more on the ball this summer than they have for a long time. Only media who got a sniff of Simon Vucevic. There seems little doubt Rovers have not bid for Gibson.
Ricky Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I can't see how the 17 player figure is being counted. Surely if you're counting youth team and reserves you need to also include the youth players we have taken on over the summer. Also I have no issues with getting rid of deadwood. How long have we been paying Zurab for?? Surely getting him as far away from the wage bill is wise. I will agree that we do still need some bodies in. I would like to think we can add a couple of loans and hopefully we'll be ok. I also like the type of players we are going for. A nice mix of youth and experienced internationals.
chris Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Sunderland agreed a fee of 5million for Gibson its now a month on an UTD still trying to get rid so why would his valuation increase? the rumour doesn't make any sense so is false. If Hodgson was still here and had money I guarentee he would put in a bid of 9 million. Buy now ask questions later.
tony gale's mic Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Will add to the Gibson theory, We was then expected to have him in to do a deal and left him hanging around the Trafford Centre waiting for a phone call that never came. This made me chuckle.
LeChuck Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 However, I endorse your comments about a weakened squad. If we do manage to fill a couple of key positions with some quality (striker, centre-back) then we can potentially see a stronger first team but still a weaker squad. Hmm. I'm undecided on this. If we see who has left and who has arrived/might be arriving as a replacement since the end of last season, it looks a bit like this: Phil Jones = Nedum Onuoha Gavin Gunning = George John Jermaine Jones = Radosav Petrovic Keith Andrews = Henri Lansbury Mame Diouf = Simon Vukcevic Benjani = Nick Blackman Nikola Kalinic = David Goodwillie Roque Santa Cruz = Vedad Ibisevic I can't think who else has left, although I'm sure Kean said eleven recently?
chaddyrovers Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 It remains the fact that 17 players have left with three more- Grella, Samba and Givet- at risk of going. Two first team contenders have been signed, two bench warmers (if that) have signed, three players not in contention last season- Formica, Rochina and Hanley- have come into contention this season and it looks like we are chasing between four and six more signings. I can't see Samba or Givet being sold so late into the transfer window. Spurs and Arsenal have not made a bid for samba so far. Plus Arsenal will want Cahill, Jagielka or Dann first before Samba. And Spurs need a midfielder and striker first before they want a defender. Spurs won't want to pay big money for Samba tho. Grella for me can go. He is always injured which is a problem. at best you can get about 10 games a season out of him which is no good to us. I would rather get rid of him and bring in a defensive midfielder who is most likely to play more than grella. here is Glen blog on rovers:- http://roversrevisited.blogspot.com/2011/08/rovers-summer-wait-set-to-be-rewarded.html Very interest read

Thats the thing if we count Gunning, Zurab etc as outgoings then we have to count Blackman, Aley, Henley and co as incomings to the squad. The bench last week proved the squad is shallow at present though

Phil Jones = Nedum Onuoha........Worse off Gavin Gunning = George John........Better off Jermaine Jones = Radosav Petrovic........ No idea Keith Andrews = Henri Lansbury........ Must be better off Mame Diouf = Simon Vukcevic........Better off Benjani = Nick Blackman...............Oh dear Nikola Kalinic = David Goodwillie........Better off, Kalinic was never going to settle under Kean Roque Santa Cruz = Vedad Ibisevic........ Better off I'd think, Santa's days are numbered. Yeah we look slightly better off, difficult to judge, but I prefer the risk of change.
LeChuck Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 That's quite fair although Blackman was signed during the days of Ince. Yeah I worded the first sentence badly, I included him as he was out on loan last season, so he's like a new arrival really.

Cryer's source was Kean himself at yesterday's press conference. I could understand him wanting to be coy about it though, but if Kean is saying no I reckon it's unlikely.

Which is why he just tows the Rovers/Venkys line, surely he must have other sources who are not going to say what they company wants us fans to hear.
Hughesy Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 How our summer business could soon look like. *Still to sign Brown > No need to replace we have Bunn & Jake Kean Phil Jones > *John George Kishinishvilli > *Boyatta on loan Gavin Gunning > *Marc Wilson or Onouha on loan Jermaine Jones > Petrovic Keith Andrews > *Vukcevic Rigters > Replace with Formica Mame Diouf > Replace with Rochina Niko Kalinic > David Goodwillie Roque Santa Cruz > *Vedad Ibisevec Benjani > No need to replace – however slight possibility of Raul Extras - Lansbury, Ribiero, Anderson & Blackman to that list. New 5 year deal for Hoilett & Samba stays……If we can perhaps get shut of Diouf & Grella then it will have been an excellent summer.

How is this towing the party line? In a press conference, surrounded by other journos and media he asks our manager directly "Have we bid for Gibson?" Kean replies "No, he isn't one of the four we're in for." Of course he has other sources, but it's pretty obvious he's going to report that our manager catagorically denied we are in for Gibson yesterday.

philipl Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 good way to start a post, make a mass insult No it was a deliberately selective insult! Ricky, buried in the depths of this thread is a list of the 17 exits- I thought it was only 11 but six more names with PL game experience got added. Agreed Blackman should be added so make that three who are bench warmers at best. Hughesy, we are a very long way from getting to that happy situation.

It's a fairly irrelevant statistic taken entirely out of context. In reality we have lost about 7/8 first team/squad players and we look as if we are on course to replace all of them and will actually have more options in midfield should these deals go through.
glen9mullan Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Interesting this Ibisevic thing, I did say other day that he was back up striker but Kammy convinced me he was number 1, It may be Hoffieniem denying for their sake, as he is a target, but Cryer says no medical today, and as i have taken a day off I have no way of really finding out today, Wife would shoot me!!! But perhaps my original thoughts that the other player is still the number 1 target, be Great is you can find out Kammy
Veevs Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Guys why are you lot talking like Onouha, Wilson, Ibisevic, Boyatta, Lansbury and John have already signed, surely after the whole Pavone thing we know better by now.
Wilko Rover Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Trying to get some info on the Lansbury deal, my step brother is best mates with Henri and i've spoken to him quite a bit, real nice guy!
