Am told negotiations continue re Ibisevic, trying to get both him and John deals done. I said yesterday that Ibisevic was not at medical stage.

The other striker, he is in Rovers price range, but recently rejected a move to a top Italian club due to not being able to agree personal terms. Can't see him wanting to join Rovers.

Cheers Kammy for quick update, I hate having a day of being blind, so much for 24 hour football free zone

There was rumour of a Dutch guy or something? Is that the one that rejected a move to italy?

So basically the same shower that lost to Wolves will face Villa. Unless some injuries have cleared up.

No it was a deliberately selective insult!

Ricky, buried in the depths of this thread is a list of the 17 exits- I thought it was only 11 but six more names with PL game experience got added.

Agreed Blackman should be added so make that three who are bench warmers at best.

Hughesy, we are a very long way from getting to that happy situation.

Its surprising that you're determined to still find a negative angle when for the first time in several months it sounds like things are going reasonably well.

Everyone knows that certain players need replacing. Everyone understands that the deals that are on the table at the moment are still yet to be formalised however, its just good to hear that we're moving in the right direction at least.

That is why I, and probably many others on here, are relieved that Venky's have finally allowed some money to be spent and it sounds like on the sorts of players we need.

Of course things aren't perfect, but to go so far out of your way to only highlight the negatives, all of which we already know, is pointless. Give it a rest.

From my perspective things are sounding quite good. Its a shame its taken this long but the defeat last weekend seems to have kick started some action. This time next week we should hopefully have a decent squad to play with.

El Hamdaoui (Ajax) recently rejected a top Italian side cause he couldn't agree personal terms. Could be on Rovers radar, is available but his wages are massive.

This is most certain our Dutch target. Too bad Bryan Ruiz and Tim Matavz are way better.

17 players have left or are clearly leaving/being left out, but a lot of those players would have been nowhere near a first team squad. It's a fairly irrelevant statistic taken entirely out of context. In reality we have lost about 7/8 first team/squad players and we look as if we are on course to replace all of them and will actually have more options in midfield should these deals go through.

Exactly and not a fact we should be underestimating like we are right now, given ou recent history we should expect to miss out on most of them (but of course I hope we do get them).

Fulham seem to be keeping an eye on him. Seems to have a good goal scoring record, albeit in lesser quality leagues.

Not Hamdaoui, it is Matavz, he rejected a move to Napoli. He is the other striker but at the moment Ibisevic the one being negotiated for. Matavz is for me the better option, but what do I know!

In reply to glens givet Kilmarnock story I remember being sat in main stand and seein him in first half giving the signal to bench to be substituted then wondering why he stayed on . Just thought he had run it off and remember thinking it wAs strange as I hadn't seen him get injured

I watched that just the other day, converted my King Kenny's Blackburn Magic VHS to DVD, had a bloody lump in my throat watching most of it. How I miss the old Blackburn End :(

You are right. Matavz is one hell of a striker. Scored again 3x last weekend. Would really love to have him here!!! I thought his transfer broke down on the fee? Groningen want 8 mill. Euros or something?

Lawro's Predictions for Saturday

Aston Villa v Blackburn

Villa did well to get a draw at Fulham on the opening day of the season, and it was not a big surprise that Shay Given helped them do it with a couple of great saves. He looks a very good signing.

I can see them building on that with a win here, which might bring a bit of relief for Alex McLeish in his first home game as Villa boss. He might not have been a popular appointment with the fans but I cannot see it taking him long to win them over.

For me, Blackburn need a couple of new players, especially a centre-back. Another defeat here after they lost at home to Wolves might increase the pressure on Steve Kean but it is the board who should be asked a few questions, not him.

Prediction: 2-0

Not El Hamdaoui, he seems to have attitude problems everywhere he goes.

Which is why I was confused that we had shifted to Ibisevic, Matavz is not at a big club and his we could easily afford his wages,

Who knows, this may still happen

Especially when you think Matavz is fit and in form as opposed to Ibisevic, but fee for Matavz is probably higher.

Hope so, we need a goalscorer and he is a class player. He's Slovenian so its not like he supports Gronigen. Im not sure if he speaks English though.

Solution is get them both! :D

From wiki to take with a pinch of Salt

Matavž was born in Šempeter pri Gorici, present day Slovenia. Besides Slovene he is also fluent in English, Italian and Dutch

Which is the only reason I can think off logically why they may have switched targets, because he is young and Kean wants to add a more experienced striker, Cnt help thinking if Raul had got the go ahead Matavz would now be the one due in for a medical

Any possibility that we will get both - and that gives us cover whilst Ib gets fit in 4-6 weeks ?

Personally, I just want Rovers to get some more signed up and integrated in the squad and training so as we can start playing as a unit with the new team(s) as soon as possible and get some points on the board.

Makey has been quiet today - usually a spot on source of what is happening (personally think he has a batphone to Mrs D )
