I think there is a clear difference between defensive/box-to-box midfielders and attacking midfielders.

What I am saying is that if we are looking to play a 4-2-3-1 then at present we have N'Zonzi, Petrovic, Grella and Dunn (as I accept Chaddy's point that you could potentially play Dunny as one of the two, although I'm not sure his legs are up to it these days) for the defensive/box-to-box positions. That said, I had forgot about the potential signing of Lansbury and he strikes me as being one for the box-to-box category. So if he signs that is five for two positions of N'Zonzi, Petrovic, Grella, Dunn and Lansbury. However, Dunn and Grella are injury prone to say the least and Lansbury and Petrovic are inexperienced. Hence why I would love is to sign Jermaine Jones again as he adds quality and experience.

For the attacking midfielders - the three in a 4-2-3-1 - I agree we are well covered with Formica, Rochina, Vuckevic, Hoillet, Pedersen, Emerton et al.

I accept your point aswell that Dunn will not be able to play every single game. Lansbury would be a good signing due to he could play on the wing, in the hole or as a deep playmaker. Give you options in midfield.

I would let Grella leave the club on a free transfer if we could get a JJ on loan for the season.

Just a heads up it looks like the owners are attending tomorrow's game, so hopefully they will complete a few deals whilst here

im not one of the anti venky brigade at all,

But would i be right in thinkin the owners seem to have been to far more away games than home games since taking over.

If you're a right back up against a left footed left winger you show him inside to keep him off his stronger foot, pace doesn't come into it as you have cover on the inside from midfielders. You don't show a left footer onto his stronger foot to whip balls in

Funny. That's exactly what I scream at the TV every time I see a RB show Bale onto his left. On his right, he's half the threat.

We can hope Hughsey. Perhaps a crap result would spur them on to do something to speed it all up, and maybe even search for a competent manager. As previously speculated, I wonder if Simon Hunt's arrival has focussed the player search?

Whatever happens tomorrow, I hope we can finalise all our transfers in good time for the game after Villa. There has been too much fannying about.

You're forgetting, the Indian's love their "Hospitality" routine, they are, in the main, Junket junkies (And I'm not talking about the puddings)

And a couple of our owners are a bit bling, so why not? Who can blame them.

As I said it depends on the moment.

You may well have cover on the inside, but all I will do is instruct my central players to drag yours away from that side creating space for him to attack at pace. The other advantage of coming inside is that I can pass the ball and I don't have to rely on a cross which is far less likely to meet one of my team-mates. If you don't come across then I out number you at the other side of the pitch so a quick ball back to my overlapping full back for a far post cross. The thing most hated by defensive players??? People running at them at pace, perhaps in some moments it will be the right thing to do, but Kelbo's right in the main I would avoid it.

The other thing to consider is that pacey players generally can't cross a ball that well and it's not that easy to hit a accurate ball whilst flying down the wing anyway.

S W Phillips is a prime example of a wide tricky player with no end product, his delivery can only be compared to a failed midwife!

Yes, I agree age slows you down but I have said on numerous occassions, if you dont have the right shape, whoever is at right back will get skinned, last year I posted about Emerton who was wide right midfield, trying to get back into position from the left side of midfield as there was no one covering his position, thats a joke, you all move accross one and then you cover the posiition he had left.

Every coach will tell you, shape is the most important aspect of tactics, a team move together as a unit, the strikers shouldnt be too far apart and the wide midfielder shouldnt be much more than 15 yards in front of the full back at all times, the midfield in general should be the same distance from the defence and a similar distance from the strikers, if you dont do that, opponents will run the midfield as you are not closing space!

So if we keep a good shape, there is no need to worry too much about the defence as we would have the cover.

Anyway, back to transfers, we need as I said a centre back of quality to replace Jones and a 15 goal a season striker, I think then we may have a decent squad, assuming these new lads sign.

Are we playing table football?

Add in Aaron Lennon, although he has worked hard to improve that side of things. It's a common trait, just look at the Sanchez kid Barca have signed lightening quick but can't cross for toffee.

I think Dunn can play in the 2. Nzonzi is your Ball Winning in midfielder and Dunn is your deep playmaker in Midfield (Like Tugay did for rovers but Dunn isn't as good as the Legend).

I do accept that Dunn won't play every single game this season so you can't play that way every game. I would imagine that Kean might play Nzonzi and Petrovic against the top 6 to add defensive side of our play.

Chaddy - not being harsh here pal, but Dunny`s legs have gone, he has the turnign circle of a jumbo jet and once he gets up to speed, chasing someone for a tackle, you may as well blow the whistle and give him a yellow card before he makes it.

Love Dunny to bits, would love him to stay on and coach, but he has gone now, not going to make the game changing moments or beating several opponents and unlocking the door.

We can`t be sentimental when it comes ot the team now if we make all these signings, no good saying well what about Formica, or Rochina when we bring people in, that will be the managers job to manage the ###### that falls out from beign a manager and upsetting good players when not playing - a good position for rovers to be in !

Duffer has signed on at Fulham for another year, so he isn't coming back.

p.s. See Poulson is allowed to leave, I don't know much about him outside of the fact he is a Danish International.

Anyone know if he is much cop?

Thanks

Completely agree. Pundits always say that without Dunny we are nothing. That was true 2 seasons ago when he scored a few and was vital to Big Sams plans, but he just doesn't have the legs anymore. Really love Dunny and he's a good guy to have around the club, but he has nowhere near the impact that he used to. Big shame!

I agree, his time with Rovers is near an end. Happens to the greatest of footballers one day...
