Henwah Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Sorry that's absolute nonsense. Most fans want to see their team win first and foremost. Fans will, mostly, get more depressed by seeing their team lose despite attempting to play nice football, than they will seeing their team gain crucial victories whilst playing not so nice football. You can speak for yourself, but you can't argue that applies to the vast majority of fans. Look at the attendance for the first game of the season this season versus last season. That should tell you everything. Where did I say vast majority? I even thoughtfully avoided using a term like that because I know what some of you are like :-)

bob fleming Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 But can you really Bob? Nah. Not really. Not by a long shot. I wish I could. I wish I didn't give a damn and was just happy with a few signings and to heck with the rest of it all. Anyway... AmazinTim is right. It's not the thread to be discussing Blackburn Rovers all off the cuff is it. Back to the transfer thread...
tony gale's mic Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 If there is a different word which means the same thing that Kean hasn't ruined then just substitute it :-) You know what I mean though - playing our game and letting the opposition deal with us rather than set out to stop the opposition - just because the daft twunt used the word doesn't make the meaning of it less valid Football used to be about entertainment - I've watched rovers for about 25 years (I'm 32 before people start talking about the dark middle ages when we... Etc), and my favourite season was the promotion season in 2000/2001 - confident, attacking, and entertaining! It wasn't where we were that mattered, it was the fact we had exciting players that would have a go. I know winning is important, but we lost plenty games under Sam where we never even tried to win, I'd rather lose 4-3 than lose 1-0 But would you rather lose 4-3 than win 1-0? Because currently, that's what the comparison between Sam and Kean has been. And at Ewood we won most of the games we played, our home record was formidable. Comparing it with our promotion season in 2000/01 is pointless - on one situation we had more resources and better players than everyone else in the season, whereas in the other situation we had less resources and worse players than most of the division. Did you see the goals in West Hams 4-0 win the other day? We never scored goals like that under Sam, and with good reason. How many managers have managed to sustain consistent top 10 performances in this league on minimal budgets? And now, tell me how many managers have sustained consistent top 10 performances in this league on minimal budgets playing attractive football?
steo Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I thought i would be reading about our two or three new signings by now, what is the hold up and why does it take forever for rovers to complete a deal these days, also can anyone confirm Hoffenheim have accepted a bid from us because the last i heard was they hadn't even received a bid from anyone,Raul deal looks dead and buried now PSG have joined the race,i'm unsure about Ibisevic and his injury problems,i would have preferred a striker with premier league experience but to be honest i wanted Raul at Rovers he is an absolute legend.

Watching Paul Ince's Rovers get beat every week by playing football was depressing yes, but the club took the gamble of appointing him partly due to the very loud protesting from a huge amount of us fans to the possibilty of getting Sam. We would rather have took the gamble of appointing Ince instead of watching Sam's hoof ball, even though we new it'd probably keep us in the league and win matches. Even now, I'd rather take the gamble with Kean and his brand of football than still be forced to watch Sam's. There are many fans that wouldn't I know, but I know just as many if not more that feel exactly the same as I do.
Guest ljb Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Bigdsoccer Daniel Robertson A Greek website is reporting the Blackburn offer for George John is $2mil...at that price you have to sell without any questions IMO. we do like that 2 million price don't we lol

I wasn't really comparing it to now, I was comparing it to 25 seasons including winning the premier league, because we shed a lot of the crap we'd collected on our way down and had flair in the side (Jansen, Duff, Dunn mainly) - my point was that we weren't in the top league but I looked forward to matches and they largely provided the entertainment I paid for. I'd like us to win every week but if we can't I'd at least want us to play some football rather than play advanced Sunday league football

I'd like us to win every week but if we can't I'd at least want us to play some football rather than play advanced Sunday league football But ultimately, the last ten years of Premier League football (I use that as a cut off point because thats when the money really started to explode and inequalities started to open up), you would have either been asking Sam to sacrifice several league places to play a different brand of football, or else you wouldve been asking him to do something that only Mark Hughes has managed to do in the last ten years. And had we not won as many games, I guarantee you wouldnt have looked back on it fondly at all. Had we finished mid table in that league, you wouldve looked back on it very badly. And even under Hughes the quality of football declined significantly once Bellamy left and Tugay's legs went. I don't think you can call it nonsense. If that was remotely close to being true, then attendances wouldnt have dropped by 3,000-4,000 between the start of this season and the start of last season. Most fans would rather see their team win 1-0 than lose 4-3. I don't even know how you can claim anything different.

Blackpool, West Brom and even Burnley have found out to their cost in recent times. Winning 4-3 sounds ace from a spectacle point of view but I expect 5 of the 11 players would prefer the 1-0. Trouble is, I can see us scoring one goal. I can't see us scoring 4...

Trouble is, I can see us scoring one goal. I can't see us scoring 4... Admittedly my theories chances of success do depend on being backed by the owners - to be fair they are bringing in creative players if not expensive. And just to be clear - I like that Kean is trying to build a team to play football rather than prevent it, aside from that I think he's crap and a bit of a knob too
Henwah Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Anyway, at least it provoked a discussion, even if it was in the wrong area (sorry mods) but I couldn't reply to the original point that initiated it in another thread or it wouldn't have worked. Back to transfers - where are they all?
Stuart Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 And just to be clear - I like that Kean is trying to build a team to play football rather than prevent it, aside from that I think he's crap and a bit of a knob too Well God love you for your honesty!
King Kenny's Magic Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Right. Everbody put your handbags down. How far down the line are we with the potential four signings?
Jarvefromossy Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 "Rush a medical" - he's been at it 2 days!! He only plays 90 minutes! A four day medical could see him out until Christmas Tom! Ian Rush having a medical ??? - oh ###### looks like I haven't caught up with the latest transfer news just yet......

Neal Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 And we will have Keiran Gibbs and Lansbury in exchange!! That would be a great swap!! I have to disagree.
tony gale's mic Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 And we will have Keiran Gibbs and Lansbury in exchange!! That would be a great swap!! No chance they'll sell Gibbs. Even some Arsenal fans are annoyed they might sell Lansbury.
AmazinTim Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 And we will have Keiran Gibbs and Lansbury in exchange!! That would be a great swap!! You rate Gibbs over Olsson? Lansbury over NZonzi? I can't agree there.

Kelbo Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 You rate Gibbs over Olsson? Lansbury over NZonzi? I can't agree there. Gibbs has made the full England squad and with the midfielders we are going to sign, I would do that swap any day!
he6rt6gr6m Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 And we will have Keiran Gibbs and Lansbury in exchange!! That would be a great swap!! And Chamakh. And even then, it'd be hard to part with Olsson.
bennyboyt11 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Personally I think it's a load of tosh. They already have a pretty solid midfield, especially in the position where N'Zonzi plays. Olsson would be the only one I'd be worried about, however I can't imagine Wenger seeing him as the replacement for Clichy/Gibbs (injured). They aren't players that are in keeping with Wenger and his transfer style.
