Ask yourself the question' If all was as it seemed, why did John Williams cut and run so quickly?' I do think that the problems are manifested by the fact that Venkys did not get what they thought and that it is costing them too much money, money that at this time they cannot commit. It is a shame as I do think their reasons are good and sound and the trust have sold them the proverbial 'pup'

Honda won't be coming here.

Do you know that for sure BPF ? I agree its very unlikely but interested to know if you know first hand he isn`t?

Also, just been reading through JR`s diary on the website, interestign to note that all teh clubs and staff are mingling as they are all in teh same place together, lets hope Steve Kean gets the new Chelsea boss ###### up, and gets an agreement to get Sturridge in on loan for the seaon !

I guess the tournament will be good for networking in that respect - seems a sensible idea

Thats precisely it. I remember earlier in this window there was a link from somewhere saying the asking price was in the region of 5 million, which for me, would be fine. I really liked JJ and his boundless energy, but you have to wonder even if he was going for 5 mill, would we have even stumped that up.

I don't think jj deal is dead. I think his club want rid . I expect someone to sign him in the last week of the window for less than 10 mil

Jay Emmanuelle Thomas is off to Ipswich for a small fee apparently, I would of likes us to take a punt on him I think he has talent.

Whatever talent he has on the field is more than matched at propping up the bar it seems. If he knuckled down he could be incredible, but if Wenger can't get it out of him, who can?

I think that the Trust wanted rid of us asap, so didnt really dig deep into finding what Venkys are about. They probably did produce all the relevant documents bank balance etc.. but a company like Rothschild should have someone employed in making sure companies like Venkys are here to make some quick money. Rothschild would of had numerous conversations with Venkys so how did Rothschild not see that Venkys dont have a clue about football and how its run, surley anyone can see that is a recipe for disaster?

Personally I don't blame the Trust for the position we are in. They kept the club in the Premier League for a decade, something that nobody had achieved since 1936. They poured money into the club in many ways, not just transfers and lets not forget that Souness spent some serious money.

They delegated a great deal to John Williams and Tom Finn because they knew them as experienced and trusted businessmen who had an affection for the club.

Ultimately, they sold when it became clear that pouring money into the Rovers would have an impact on other areas that they were responsible for and employed Rothschild to help find a buyer.

Venkys made all sorts of promises - just look at the document issued to shareholders. However, once they bought the club they were free to do whatever they liked and promises about keeping the same management structure were quickly forgotten.

I have no doubt that the Rao family have money. However, if their money is tied up in the business and the Charity work they do in India it will leave very little for the Rovers. I suspect that they seriously underestimated how much it would take to run a Premier League club, I don't know if they were badly advised or not. However, as buyer they should have investigated all the possible pitfalls. Mrs. Desai said that she prides herself on getting eight out of ten decisions right. I suspect that buying the Rovers is one of her wrong decisions and that it is going to prove a costly mistake for all concerned.

Sign a goal scorer ffs!! The Serb is a tidy player but we need a goal machine.

we just need a signing. i don't care on position at the moment. Just as long as we get someone with a decent pedigree in quickly. Then hopefully the ST and CB we need will follow

Strange viewpoint JW11, but I suspect you're far from being on your own. ;)

It sounds like we have active bids for Mongongu and Petrovic, with Benjani and Ribeiro possibilities. That'll be at least 4 players signed, but we'll still need a couple more.

As I've said elsewhere, we need around 5-9 new players and I think one of the journalists, whether it's Cryer or someone else should be asking Kean/Venky's directly if they are aware how depleted our squad is and what they plan to do about it. I want to see them quote a number of players they are aiming to sign before the end of the window or otherwise tell us why they think the current squad is big enough (and good enough).

On a side note, Mongongu and Petrovic will be very shrewd buys if they come off. I expect both players to come straight into the first team if they're fit.

I agree they would be shrewd signings - but neither could be considered as better than the two Jones's that we lost. Both players may develop to be as good as, or maybe better, but we will start the season weaker unless we bring in some better quality players - a very good quality striker being key.

Exactly even with these 2 signings we are still weaker than last season when we stayed up on the last day!

A goalscorer is a must.....I think the striker search is the biggy.....who they get in will either make or break Venkys!

That's obvious, but it has never been my expectation that we would be selling players for nearly 20 million dollars and then buying another player for that much. The whole business model is focused around buying cheap and selling high.

It has to be remembered that no one even knew who Jones was until Sam decided to give him a chance and he hit the ground running and quickly developed into one of the best young defenders in England. Jermaine Jones was also on the fringes of a struggling Schalke squad last season, but was given a chance by Kean and was brilliant. So there's no telling how Mongongu and Petrovic will do, but their physical traits suggest they may be able to succeed from the off, or at least have an advantage over players like Formica/Rochina/Kalinic who have needed to train hard to adapt.

That said, I do expect us to sign at least 1 or 2 proven players. However, we've already missed out on quite a few good players that have been available on frees. I don't know how much a draw our club is at the moment for GOOD players, for a number of reasons.

on Petrovic in January

Radosav Petrovic 'attracting interest from

Spurs and Manchester United'

Two of England's Champions League

contenders, Spurs and Manchester United,

have both emerged as contenders for the

signature of highly-rated FK Partizan

midfielder Radosav Petrovic.

obviously he is a class act, and I'm surprised the fee is only around the 2.5mill mark. if we can get him in, and Mongi then so far so good. I don't mind Benjani signing, as Imo he is better than Kalinic. I know that's not great, but if Kalinic goes then we are left with only Roberts and Rochina.

its vital, that Kean can get in a top striker. I also think, while not the top striker we might want, Pavonne and Valdez might not be so bad.

Roma nearly signed him a month back.

What was the stumbling block? Agent fees?

Can you comment on this tuttomercato article Roberto?

Roma renew their interest in Radosav Petrovic?

Translated to enligsh for others:

The Rome looking for a versatile midfielder, whose identikit, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, could match that of the 22 year-old Partizan Radosav Petrovic, already approached the Giallorossi in recent weeks by Alfredo Pedulla. Obviously, being a non-EU player, Roma must provide for the sale of an item with the same status, and the main suspects are Barusso, who could ask for a buyout, Simplicio, who likes to Al Ahli, if not the same Vucinic if you miss the final negotiations with Juventus

Arsenal have let some good one's go in the past......Andrew Cole and Bentley to name a couple!

Could someone update me as to what is going on because i've been away for a week and Rovers transfer talk seems to change every day.

From what i've read, Mongongu and Pavone are back on and are we're pretty certain to be getting Pavone? Is this the case.

Also, what's happened to Nicko, is he still writing on this forum?

Thanks
