Just goes to show how Kean has left our squad depleated. :(

When Hughes left he left the club in great hands and anyone coming in would have been over the moon at what he had before him. After big Sam left he had the club playing in a way that would keep us in the Premiership, yes i didn't like the style of football but it was effective and now we have been left with Steve Kean who let's face it is not a manager, yes he maybe a good first team coach but he is so out of his depth as a top flight manager and no big names will take a look at coming to our club whilst it's in this state. :(

Hold on, let's not forget that a lot of the mess we find ourselves in now is a result of previous management.

When Allardyce left our options at forward were Roberts, Mame Biram Diouf (Loan) and Kalinic.

A large amount of blame can be placed on Allardyce/Williams for rushing the Kalinic transfer and overspending on a target that I doubt they had scouted properly (we spent all summer chasing other targets and then when Portsmouth closed in on Kalinic we went for him when we had run out of options).

We had major problems in central midfield (Andrews, Dunn, Grella, N'Zonzi)

Again most of the blame lies elsewhere, with Andrews and Grella being poor signings from the Ince regime. Now Andrews isn't that bad for the price paid, but we spent a reasonable amount on Grella and have got nothing from him. Whilst Kean is certainly messing things up, at least he is the first manager in a long time to attempt to address our shortcomings in central midfield (which he did well last year with Jones and hopefully will have done again this season).

Add onto that we have mediocre players being overpaid (Salgado, Diouf, Pedersen, Emerton, Givet).

Kean certainly deserves criticism, but a lot of these problems have been a long time coming.

I mentioned how well Jones played in here last night and I got lynched for it.

I think we may get thus John and vuckanic but that will be it.

He's different class and i'm greatful for the time we had him. I was gutted he left but I have to look at it now from an England point of view, that I hope he gets into the England squad and displaces some of the passengers in that team. He's going to be far better than John Terry, who reads the game well but Jones has more pace - I also think Smalling will do well too. Good partnership forming there.

Samba, John and Petrovic are all 6'3 Plus, so strength through the middle.

Pace out wide with Hoilett and Olsson, also with Onouha on the right.

Creativity from Formica and Vuckevic.

Can I ask what the hell you mean?

He means there is not enough defensive cover from midfield and I agree with him.

Well there are dozens of transfers where we have missed out, but that isn't really the point. The current regime deserves a huge amount of criticism, but we would all be making to think that it has only gone wrong in the last 8 months.

I'm actually pleased that the Kean is finally looking at some of those areas of the side. Hopefully we'll do more business, but there are still massive holes. It looks as if we may have finally addressed problems in central midfield (for the first time since 2005), but I am still very concerned by our lack of a true leftback, Salgado at rightback and the fact that we don't have a goalscorer.

Can understand what you are saying but did Sam not scure our place in his first season after having to play Samba as a striker for half a dozen games or so as we'd no other, did Sam not secure 10th in his second season and leave us at a time when no one mentioned relegation ?

Good management is all about using what you have to the best of your and its ability.

Kean clearly fails on both counts.

It is, but very good managers also sign well and address the shortcomings in their squad (which is why Souness and Hughes both did very good jobs for large parts of their time here).

I'm not a Kean fan and I would be happy to see him go, but this is not all his fault.

Its been very quiet from Zac/Kamy and Makey over the last couple of days.

Either no news, or been told not to divulge anything, or impact of the Glenn article may be taking priority.

hopefully Simon will be signed up for tomorrow night, would be good to see him in action

But those problems were not so serious when we had a real manager were they? I never felt we were relegation fodder.

Anybody know if there has been anything from venkys London, the club etc about yesterdays blog, emails etc.

You are re-writing history in our second season we went through a horrible period when relegation was on everyones mind, a final surge enabled us to get 10th.

Grant is an awful manager IMO, yet he took Chelsea to the brink of a PL and CL, why? His squad was an excellent one. Regardless of how poor Kean is as a manager would we really be struggling if we had a couple of decent midfield players and strikers in the last few years?

Did Kean not inherit a mid table team and tookj them to the brink of relegation?
