Kean just been on SSN saying we have nearly agreed a fee for someone, and hope to have him signed within a week.

Don't expect it to be Pavone he's holding out for a bigger club. :(

Whatever talent he has on the field is more than matched at propping up the bar it seems. If he knuckled down he could be incredible, but if Wenger can't get it out of him, who can?

He'd fit in well here then. LOL :)

Sign a goal scorer ffs!! The Serb is a tidy player but we need a goal machine.

We don't have the money for a proven striker so it will have to be either a star in the making or an old timer at the end of his career which doesn't bode well for us. :(

We have got three or four active bids out there -- we are waiting for confirmation that the bids have been accepted

"Two or three are quite far down the line. So we are confident that we'll get bodies in."

Kean also downplayed the suggestion that Venky's lack the financial resources to support Blackburn in the transfer market.

"We don't have to sell before we buy," he added. "We are trying to keep the majority of the players together.

"We have a fixed budget, but it's a budget that is competitive and that will bring in good-quality players."

Nothing more than guess work, but I assume the players are.. Mongongu (CB), Petrovic(DM) and Honda(AM). Possible fourth being Raul(ST)?

Defintely more encouraging noises coming out of Venky's over the last few days.

We have been here before but I think that this time we will see transfer activity over the next week or so. I think that Mrs D now has sorted out the issues she had with Kentaro etc. and think that the possibly having a trusted aide such as Ali Merchant heading up this they are now in a position to get some deals done.

Also interesting to note that Kean went quite during the last few weeks when things were up in the air regarding transfers but now he is back talking about "competitive budgets", even he is not stupid enough to talk like this after what has happened this summer if he didn't believe that things were happening.

Let's see what happens over the next week or so.

As much as i'd love us to have a bid in for Honda I cant see it happening. Also surely one of the 3 must be a striker?

I think Honda was one of the names put forward by the people at Rovers. I am not sure if it was Kean or not?

However, from what I have read it does appear as though we have made a bid. So, fingers crossed.

I really think Venky's will be keeping a tight leash on striker signings. It is a bit like how all kids want to play as strikers, I think Venky's see a striker signing as the biggest marketing position and therefore will want full control to get someone big, ie. Raul. Chances are in the last week of the window, if still no big names have come in, we will pick up strikers like Pavone and maybe Keane.

Mongongu, Petrovic, Benjani, Pavone and one other striker would be my guess.

Benjani and Pavone are not bids are they? bid to me would suggest fee's have been agreed or being agreed and they are now in contract talks

I can't recall reading anywhere that we have actually made a bid for Honda?

I remember a article that said we were interested, but i doubt he would have played yesterday if this was one of the ones that was "pretty far down the line".

Not before bloody time imo!!!

We should have done most of our transfer business already.

Mongongu, Petrovic, Benjani, Pavone and one other striker would be my guess.

I would be happy with Petrovic and Mongongu. Both could be good replacements for the JJ and PJ.

I would be happy if we only sign one of Benjani or Pavone. We don't need 2 back up strikers, just need a fourth choice striker.

We need as our first choice striker is a goalscorer. Maybe Crouch would be a good choice but would he want to leave London is the problem.

It sounds like we have active bids for Mongongu and Petrovic, with Benjani and Ribeiro possibilities. That'll be at least 4 players signed, but we'll still need a couple more.

As I've said elsewhere, we need around 5-9 new players and I think one of the journalists, whether it's Cryer or someone else should be asking Kean/Venky's directly if they are aware how depleted our squad is and what they plan to do about it. I want to see them quote a number of players they are aiming to sign before the end of the window or otherwise tell us why they think the current squad is big enough (and good enough).

On a side note, Mongongu and Petrovic will be very shrewd buys if they come off. I expect both players to come straight into the first team if they're fit.

I have a strong feeling that a couple of youngsters will push through this year, keep your eyes open, think the lads will push on, how far remains to be seen!!

I agree Kamy, things are looking at the minute abit more positive!!!

I noticed that Kean did go very quite in the last 4-6 weeks. Very strange for him, because he seems to like talking to the media!

I think the next week or so will be interest to sign how many signings we make. I am hoping for at least 4 or 5 signings before the transfer window shuts.

What was the stumbling block? Agent fees?

Can you comment on this tuttomercato article Roberto?

Roma renew their interest in Radosav Petrovic?

Translated to enligsh for others:

The Rome looking for a versatile midfielder, whose identikit, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, could match that of the 22 year-old Partizan Radosav Petrovic, already approached the Giallorossi in recent weeks by Alfredo Pedulla. Obviously, being a non-EU player, Roma must provide for the sale of an item with the same status, and the main suspects are Barusso, who could ask for a buyout, Simplicio, who likes to Al Ahli, if not the same Vucinic if you miss the final negotiations with Juventus

Roma switched too other targets, then the goalkeeping saga with Stekelenburg kicked in and wasted time.

All supporters know that we need strengthening but I hope the apparent fixation with foreign players doesn't affect us. Listen to Kean's 'logic' re the delayed intro. of Formica and Rochina which begs the question, will any of our new signings be ready before Christmas ?

Understand the argument about 'value' but look at Bolton with their imminent domestic signings of Reo Coker, Ngog & Eagles for about £4 to £5million in fees. At least two of those three would have strengthened us and there are others in the domestic market who have moved on.

Reo Coker has not been very effective for a few years his value has been dropping every year, Ngog is not rated by many people particularly Liverpool fans and Eagles has been a championship player most his career.

So its understandable if these players were not targeted. you may end up being right but its still understandable they aren ot targeted.

Rochina is 19 and it was always stated he was for the future.

We got RSC and Jones on loan to make an impact, Jones was excellent and a surprise to many people Santa Cruz did not make an impact close to what he did only two years before.

So you can;t really compare this window to Jan.
