malk Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 What happens if one of those two is unavailable though? We've seen in these first few games how exposed we are when Dunn/Pedersen are required to play there. You can't have perfect coverage for every eventuality. If there's an injury perhaps the system has to change, perhaps Emerton plays there and does a job, Dunn and Pedersen can do a job there as well (particularly if we have a better centre back partnership playing). Perhaps one of the other youth team players steps up for a couple of games. Yes if we can get someone in that's willing to be a squad player then by all means but my point is that I want N'Zonzi and Petrovic to be our main two players in that defensive role rather than bringing in someone else to push one of them to the bench.

roversfanben Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 http://www.watoday.com.au/sport/soccer/history-as-emerton-swaps-epl... Good luck, Brett. You have been a loyal servant to the club, and I will always respect you for that. The ultimate professional, never bitched when benched and always gave his all for the club when called upon. Love him or hate him (personally I like him) no one can fault his commitment to the club and I hope all fans will join me in wishing him luck and thanking him for his servitude. I for one will give the guy a standing ovation tonight, and I am glad I get to be there to say goodbye to one of our most loyal players.

glen9mullan Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Quite sad really another experienced player who was in our starting 11 for first game of season has been allowed to leave, Been a great servant for club and will be missed for his versatity
Swanson Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 With all these flights that Steve Kean is taking, I'd love to see an Indiana Jones style map with all the red lines showing where he is flying to and from Made very quickly!
Backroom Tom Posted August 24, 2011 Backroom Posted August 24, 2011 Astonishing in my book, Emerton is no world beater but offered us a degree of flexibility, why would we let him go for free. The only thing I can think is someone with big wages is coming in to replace him.
Kelbo Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Top Pro, Top Man, good luck Brett, may you enjoy your career in Sydney and thanks for all your efforts for Rovers!
Henwah Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Astonishing in my book, Emerton is no world beater but offered us a degree of flexibility, why would we let him go for free. The only thing I can think is someone with big wages is coming in to replace him. Based on a lot of the comments last night we can just replace him with anyone who is able to run about a bit (not my opinion I hasten to add)
sjsbrfc Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Emerton's only leaving to free the numer 7 shirt for Raul
A cup of beans Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Try this link http://www.watoday.com.au/sport/soccer/history-as-emerton-swaps-epl-for-sydney-20110824-1ja9v.html terminated a year early. due to family reasons. loyal player. had his fair share of ups and downs. thanks especially for his goals against wolves.. and his stint at right back. is he replaceable ?.. yes.
yankrover Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Astonishing in my book, Emerton is no world beater but offered us a degree of flexibility, why would we let him go for free. The only thing I can think is someone with big wages is coming in to replace him. It's almost like the club is run by people who don't know what they're doing. It's too soon to say that Salgado is completely done, but he certainly hasn't looked good for the first two games and I would have thought we'd keep Brett around to play at RB (where he's always done his best work for us, in my opinion). You'd think we'd at least have been able to get some sort of fee for him. I'll miss Brett. Certainly not the best player but always gave his all.

Henwah Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Emerton's only leaving to free the numer 7 shirt for Raul Any chance we can find a player who likes the number 30 then?
patrickvalery Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Am i being too cynical to think we could be making room for Bullard's wages?
Pitty Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Why are we not asking for a fee for emerton, he must be worth 1.5 to 2million in todays prices. Just does not seem right to let him leave without a fee as we will lose an experienced player from our team, something we are thin on at the moment.
Backroom DE. Posted August 24, 2011 Backroom Posted August 24, 2011 Sorry, but letting Emerton go on a free would be absolute madness. We're not exactly blessed with squad depth, Bert is versatile, pops up with a few goals and would probably be better at RB than Salgado or Bruno. He's getting older but his engine still works fine, and I doubt we'd bring in a replacement for him. Just another stupid decision if he's allowed to leave IMO, even worse if it's for nothing.
Wendal Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 is he replaceable ?.. yes. will we replace him?.. no We've lost an experienced premiership player who could easily fill it at right wing, right back and central midfield. Toward the end of last season he was highly influencial. This is another versatile Premiership pro that has been lost at a time when our squad is desperately short of experience. If we do replace him, I can guarantee it wont be with someone who has his experience or capability in 3 positions.
rog of the rovers Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Hmmm Emerton leaving is a strange one! I would have thought with his contract coming to an end at the end of this season he would have seen it out, but I guess not! Obviously he wasn't going to get a game on the right (provided Vukcevic and Hoilett stay fit) but as an utility player I still think he does a job. Top 5 Brett moments 1. Debut performance and goal vs. Wolves 2. Last minute winner at Blackpool 3. Volley to make it 0-2 at Wolves on survival Sunday 4. Opening goal vs. Charlton back in 2004/05 5. Goal at Old Trafford 2003/04 season Maybe we are just clearing the number 7 shirt for Mr Raul?
sjsbrfc Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Maybe we are just clearing the number 7 shirt for Mr Raul? I've already said that
67splitscreen Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Circa £1.5m in wages saved, allowed to leave family reasons fair enough. Just when we seemed to be getting stronger. Better be a bloody good replacement inbound is all I can say.
A cup of beans Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Sorry, but letting Emerton go on a free would be absolute madness. idve kept him, til the end of this season, but he's moving for family reasons. also... he's not suddenly turned into world class. dont overstate his value to rovers, just because he's leaving!
