will we replace him?.. no

We've lost an experienced premiership player who could easily fill it at right wing, right back and central midfield.

Toward the end of last season he was highly influencial.

This is another versatile Premiership pro that has been lost at a time when our squad is desperately short of experience.

If we do replace him, I can guarantee it wont be with someone who has his experience or capability in 3 positions.

We already have a replacement in vuckinic maybe not in terms of versatility but in terms of emertons natural position

agreed. not sure how much game time he wouldve got this season. (idve kept him as cover f0r salgado.. cos brazilian isnt up to it) we have plenty of central midfielders (added too if lansbury comes in) and

also have hoillet who can play right wing too.

Family reasons….IF true, then fair play to him its not like hes off to a rival club. Thanks for the effort and thanks for being a top pro who never really moaned whether he was in the team or not.

You have to look at it realistically….he is out of contract in 9 months, which clearly isnt going to get renewed. He will be on decent wages. He now has an opportunity to move on, we have the opportunity to cut his wages and loyalty bonus off the club, and possibly replace with a younger model or start to push Jackson Ramm/ Adam Henley through. Hes shown us the loyalty, if we can repay him by letting him go then fair enough.

Look at the positions he plays Right back, right wing or central mid he is easily 3rd choice or worse in all positions, whether you agree with that decision or not.

We are quickly cutting deadwood it seems as you cut more, you move to the next one. As it shows on here as once Andrews had gone, some started to have a go at Emerton. Next up Grella & Diouf please.

Any further forward on teh mystery striker other than Ibsevic ?

Good luck Emo, great serveant, and will be good to get back to your homeland - all the best.

I think we have already replaced Emo, and potentially freeing up his number 7 shirt as well for Raul to sign next Wednesday

My worry Hughesy is that its fine to cut "dead wood" but players like Emerton NEED to be replaced. He has played over 240 games in the league for us- that is valuable experience, I would have preferred to let him leave at the end of the season. IF he is properly replaced then fine, but I sense we will sign an alternative who will have no PL experience.

Will be sad to see Brett go, he's been a fine servant to the club and has given his all everytime he has put on the shirt. Unless someone else comes in who can offer the versatility he does it's another example of the weakening of the squad.

If it's a case of money, i.e. getting his wage of the books then I would rather see several players go before him. Wasters and well past their prime players like Pedersen, Dunny, Roberts and Diouf I would rather see go before Brett.

Vukčević plays in the hole behind a striker (also juniors best position, rochina's best position and formica's best position). He isnt athletic enough to play on the wing.

If we continue to persist with Salgado at RB then Emerton does a great job of protecting him at right wing. Something which the likes of Hoilett just arent able to effectively do.

At this moment he is also a better option then Salgado at RB.

Emerton was used as holding midfielder and his athelticism means he is our best option in that position behind the 'specialists' Nzonzi and Petrovic.

Every squad needs an Emerton type and without him, we simply don't have anyone with that kind of versatility.

If we're looking to free up wages, there are far more likely candidates, i.e. Dunn, Pedersen, Grella, Diouf.

Our wage bill must be massively reduced at this moment in time!

Surely we have to bring in a full-back now before the window closes?!

Brainless morons if that's the case. I can name 4 or 5 players who deserve the sort of stick far more than Emerton, a certain well past his prime norwegian and a 5 goals a season striker to name two.

Looks like a ###### decision but then what do you expect from a ###### manager?

You can't blame Kean for a player wanting to play out his career in his home country!

Certain people on here were having a go at Emerton last night, and now he's going, they are using it as another excuse to beat the owners and Kean with!

Emerton has been a great player for us, I'll be sad to see him go, but I can't blame him for wanting to return to Australia.

Disagree with part I think vuckinic best position is RM he has plenty of pace an can beat a full back (which not being nasty but emerton couldn't). Agree though he was a good option for RB, although I do consider henley an excellent prospect. Centre midfield we have nzo and petty and I think lowe is capable of playing that role.

The point is people have been moaning for years that we need a overhaul of the squad but now it's happening people aren't happy?

I wish people would stop asking why we aren't getting rid of Diouf and Grella. It takes two to tango and unsurprisingly finding a club for these overpaid wasters is not that easy. The only other option is paying them off in full...

Good luck to emerton, it is a nice gesture by the club to let him leave early and repays the commitment he has shown.

Do they? Who is Chelsea's "Emerton type"? Man United's? Barcelona's? Why exactly does every squad need an under performing lump with no football brain?
