the majority of posters will se and understand the effort that bret has put into the club in the 8 years that he has been here. not blessed with a great deal of ability and we all know that. i understand why he is going home, but anyway....best wishes emo!!

I'll echo that, he was a real tryer and like others said never really moaned. If he wants to leave then you can't blame him Autralia is far better at the moment with regards to the economy and the riots etc. I've never been an emo hater so i'm gutted to see him leave, just means we now need 6 or 7 players instead of 5. I'm unsure about Henley, he has a way to go for me.

Thanks for the effort Brett - Hope you get a good send off on Saturday.

Do they? Who is Chelsea's "Emerton type"? Man United's? Barcelona's? Why exactly does every squad need an under performing lump with no football brain?

Mikel?

I made no comment on Emerton's ability as a player but was referring more to the fact he is able to play in a number of positions.

Until his recent departure, I would have put Zhirkov in that same category.

Ryan Giggs has become a similar sort of player in the later part of his career, playing across the entire midfield and filling in at left back in a couple of occasions.

Seydou Keita is very much the utility man at Barcelona, playing in a number of positions.

In any case, your examples are of clubs who can afford to have quality specialists for each position.

Were you shouting that when he scored against Utd last season.

Solid player, have you noticed we are not any of the above teams.

Some fans really do know very little about a game they watch every week.

Seydou Keita is a footballer who can play a number of positions to a high standard and as such is an asset.

Brett Emerton is a player that has been moved between positions because he has never performed to a high enough standard in any of them to make it his own.

As they say down under "He's a Brett of all trades....."

Keita is an asset to Barcelona and Emerton is/was an asset to us.

He's not one of the world's best players but nor are we one of the world's best clubs.

My point was that he is a useful squad player, nothing more.

Were you shouting when Benjani scored against Liverpool last season? Should we get him back on the basis of that? Or does your point seem less relevant with that in mind?

Any further forward on teh mystery striker other than Ibsevic ?

Good luck Emo, great serveant, and will be good to get back to your homeland - all the best.

I think we have already replaced Emo, and potentially freeing up his number 7 shirt as well for Raul to sign next Wednesday

i have a name for the striker. but need to get confirmation. Vincenzo Iaquinta. he's an international, playing for a top european club.. but he's dropped down the pecking order over the last season and a half.

if its him.. he's had experience of playing for a side of similar size to blackburn (udinese!) ;)

Just so I can understand where you're coming from - are you saying that Emerton is as important to us as Keita is to Barca?

Did I mention Benjani?

Emerton was a consistent player over many seasons, Benjani was only here for the blink of an eye.

You asked if I was happy when Emerton scored against Man Utd - pin-pointing one thing he did, not citing years worth of achievements. I did the same for Benjani, to prove that one instance means very little.

Iaquinta, Ibisevic and Goodwillie. Sounds promising to me.

Milito would have been incredible business. Not a huge fan of Podolski (however I'm sure I'm about to get shouted at for that statement).

If we had those 3 strikers by the end of the window plus George John I'd be hoping we can work our way out of the bottom 3.

In the context of our different expectations and resources then yes.

Could you finish mid-table with a player like Emerton as your squad player? YES

Could you win the league and compete in the Champions League with a player like Emerton as your squad player? NO
