stu07 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Arentoft was a joke. Doubt many remember him. Atkins I make no excuse for, all the PL champions are with the greats for me. And he had alot of game time because Batty and Warhurst were injured. If you remember Kenny played Warhurst in midfield. Had a great season, then the following year we sold him to Wolves, another one of Harford's blunders. Top coach just wasn't a manager.

braddock Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I guess Emerton leaving on a free further distinguishes the belief that they are only in it for the money.
A cup of beans Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Arentoft was a joke. Doubt many remember him. Atkins I make no excuse for, all the PL champions are with the greats for me. agree on atkins, too! brilliant once converted to a midfielder. bloody unsung hero!
1864roverite Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Those lamenting the loss of Emerton are as fickle as a football fan can be. Good player, good solid servant and compared to a lot of players we have had through the doors over the years he has proved value for money. He goes with the bestest wishes and a thank you. Good luck Bert
Speedie Dived Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I guess Emerton leaving on a free further distinguishes the belief that they are only in it for the money. How? 30k off the wage bill, probably replaced by Jason Lowe in the squad on around 5k?

stu07 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I guess Emerton leaving on a free further distinguishes the belief that they are only in it for the money. What a load of ######
Speedie Dived Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Because they could get a fee for him. That's some warped logic. You are praising them for allowing a player you think they can get a fee for leave on a free? They are cutting operating costs, Bret probably worth 2 million, get something similar in wages over next year. No one prepared to pay fee so they are cutting costs now. It might be re-invested in the squad but it certainly does not show they are prepared to splash the cash as you originally stated
rogerjonesgloves Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 What a load of ###### Good reasoned response.
braddock Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 What a load of ###### Aren't you the guy who name checked me earlier, said that people on here get too angry, then said everyone is entitled to their opinion?
Gav Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Atkins I make no excuse for, all the PL champions are with the greats for me. Atkins was a good player, versatile, and more than played his part in Kenny and Jacks revolution.
Oklahoma Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 No one knows the reasons why Emerton wants to go back home now. Just yesterday people here were talking about the last big contract of a player's carreer but Emerton chose to go back home instead. I can understand if the team released him over personal reasons. So, all that is left is to thank Emerton for his services and wish him all the best.

Nobody being willing to pay a fee is conjecture.

Good luck Bert 100% Agree - I still think he's the best right-back at the club. The additional attacking threat from him playing full-back outweights the deficiencies he has in defending.
stu07 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Aren't you the guy who name checked me earlier, said that people on here get too angry, then said everyone is entitled to their opinion? Probably, i've just given my opinion to your opinion
Speedie Dived Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I wasn't praising the decision as such. Nobody being willing to pay a fee is conjecture. Well the only thing we know for certain is that the wage bill is now lower.
vintageadidas Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Sorry, on my phone with poor signal. Has Emerton gone? If so where and when? Thanks.
braddock Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Well the only thing we know for certain is that the wage bill is now lower. Allardyce sold a player once. Shoot him.
Stuart Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Sorry, on my phone with poor signal. Has Emerton gone? If so where and when? Thanks. Apparently off to Australia after the weekend - possibly earlier. Free transfer.
Speedie Dived Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Allardyce sold a player once. Shoot him. Your original point was it shows they are not in it for the money. Right now that is incorrect as they are spending less
dubdubdub Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Your original point was it shows they are not in it for the money. Right now that is incorrect as they are spending less Third time lucky...His point is they could have made money on him as well as saving money on bills. Comprende?

Iceman Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 Why are there 2 Emerton threads? This one and the other one.
daveoftherovers Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Why are there 2 Emerton threads? This one and the other one. Perhaps, it's One for the Brett Emerton we signed and got to see against Wolves And one for Bert we got most of the time LOL In fairness, I think he did great at RB
