Veevs Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Some people been talking about this as our midfield and attack as a good looking side.. Nzonzi, Petrovic Vuki, Formica, Jnr Ibisivic With new foreign striker, Goodwillie, Rochina et al on the bench.. Complete madness if we head this direction.. not only a stupidly low average age but our two most experienced attacking players beyond defence being a couple of kids in their very early 20s.. wth that just won't work.

chaddyrovers Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Spot on Kamy.. as ever. Been ranting about the same for a while..... People say they cost, but hell not all of them do, as an example I would rather us spent a little more on Yobo or Cuellar than on a complete unknown quantity from America. Boy I hope we get a couple of decent loan signings to at least add experience.. i agree. somebody like Cuellar would add experience at rovers. maybe we might get Onuoha on transfer deadline day either permanent or loan with a view to buy.

Yeah like many a Rovers fan agree there he would make a good addition.. still need some outfield experience and leadership beyond defense but that's my opinion and not the managers.

I would be happy with this tbh. (You forget these players in bold.)

Guest ljb Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 hearing Luke Wilkshire being looked at as right back cover, maybe thats why there letting brett leave
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I can see what Kean's doing with the squad and I don't disagree with the general intent of it - but this kind of rebuilding around youth is usually better served for sides looking to consolidate their position. Our position is 19th with an extra game on the only team below us, having escaped relegation on the last day of the season.
rover460 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I would be happy with this tbh. (You forget these players in bold.) Forget Petrovic not ready for first team yet.Poor tonight against a poor Sheffield side.It looks like he may need time to settle in.(this is not a get at the lad, just an observation) I hope he does well.

Wow was you watching the same game as me? I think a few match reports I have seen too also have down as man of the match including the one Vital Football did, I thought he was excellent tonight. Not the type of player who runs with the ball, he gets the ball of the back four and passes it short long ect, His vision was excellent and I think we have a cracker in him

the swede Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I would be happy with this tbh. (You forget these players in bold.) And you forgot about Brett Now we have Bruno as RB backup
Iceman Posted August 25, 2011 Author Posted August 25, 2011 Think Samba is key to our season, because he is the experience we are missing at the moment. If we can just add Onouha perhaps, then we could potentiaLly be strong at the back. The other player I'm hoping will somehow return, is Jermaine Jones. Something like this: Robbo Onouha Samba John Givet Vuckcevic Petrovic Nzonzi Olsson Hoilett El Hamdaoui Bench: Bunn, Rochina, Formica, Nelsen, Salgado, Goodwillie, Ibisevic Just a thought, and that is how do we accomodate all these guys? If El Hamdaoui(sp) and Ibisevic signs, then somebody will need to make way. I can't see Roberts not being at least on the bench. Then there is still Ribeiro as well, so we might have to sell a few players or loan them out. This is of course, only if we should sign Onouha and John or another defender.

I thought he was fairly solid last night - did all the simple stuff right, also saw him stickign up for his team mates on quite a few occassions tonight which I liked, squared up to their big centre half after he had floored Rochina (I think) - I like this attitude already. Couple more games and he will continue to improve - Pederson was awful, the guy frsutrates the hell out of me, but I guess we would usually see Vuckevic playign there. I am not sure i agree with all the comments about bringing experience in to the team - if the players we bring in are good enough, then we will be fine and they will adjust. Kean is building a squad for the future and I like what he is doing. Experience comes at a premium and although it would be nice, its not essential if the players are good enough. We have enough experience at the club to help the new boys, day in and day out in training, Salgado, Samba, Givet, Nelly, Dunny, Pederson (shudder), Robinson, Roberts etc

Also Mounir El Hamdoui is the mystery striker....good choice!
stu07 Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I think we should bid for Barton. He's got the experience and he can change a game. If QPR could interest him, surely we could. Kean needs to go see him and say look Joey you will be massive here andgive him a 4 year contract. He could stay in the north and he wouldn't too far from Manchester. I dont like him as a person but he's a good player. He really needs to see the opportunity here, a class midfielder for free, okay his wages a year will be 2.5/3 million a year but I think he's worth that. Kean pull your finger out before he goes QPR.

Good player, in fact talented player, bad attitude, shouldnt be anywhere near the Rovers team especially given our current position. We cannot afford any further disruptions, as we already have our own problems to sort out. on a seperate note, Juan Mata has been unveiled a day after arriving for his medical. we still trying to tape the pieces together with red tape
philipl Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 The problem is we're almost 3 games into the Premier League season with not even half our business done. All the players we are chasing are new to the Premier League so it could take them weeks or months to settle in. Teams like Sunderland, Stoke and even Q.P.R are signing players proven in the league. We need one or two who can slot straight in the side with experience. Exactly. we really really need to get incredibly lucky but with Kean in charge that is all but impossible.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Very true about opinions, Football is all about opinions - but I agree with you about Petrovic. Personally I would start him against Everton - but I think Kean will start with Dunn.

We need one or two who can slot straight in the side with experience. It's a valid point, and I think there is real concerns about the time players will need to adapt to PL. The problem with buying established Premier League players is that they are incredible expensive. You have to pay premium fees and increase the player's wages to come here. Stoke have found it really hard to do deals over Premier League players: Pulis:"We've got a wage structure that we want to keep to. We miss out on deals, and we have to be big enough to accept that. "If supporters get a little bit disappointed with it, then so be it - it won't be the first time we've missed out on deals because we've said no." QRP are paying Barton 80k a week, would you really disrupt the whole wage structure by brining in such a loose cannon? Our transfer policy at the moment makes sense. Bringing in players with potential and quality for a fraction on what they would cost in PL. Coupled the focus of promoting young players from the academy you got a good sustainable long term vision. The problem is how to balance this in short term with PL experience and experience in general. THe core of the squad (Robinson, Salgado, Nelsen, Samba, Givet, Dunn, Pedersen, Roberts) have a lot of experience even though you can question the quality of all of them.
den Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Our transfer policy at the moment makes sense. Bringing in players with potential and quality for a fraction on what they would cost in PL. If they are young and have quality they would still be costing a lot of money. With the players we have brought in, we don't know about the quality bit yet. For instance, Goodwillie was lauded as being young, and with potential. He didn't look very good to me last night, but we'll see how he does against Everton. That would give us a better idea.
