King Kenny's Magic Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 kelbs, it wasnt berg who got destroyed by warhurst - it was patrik andersson. we got rid of him after about 10 games. he went on to have a decent career.. barca and bayern! berg's debut- im sure it was against crystal palace. we lost.. chris armstrong scored (he always scored against us). I thought it was against Wednesday in the cup semi? He played at right back didn't he?

A cup of beans Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I thought it was against Wednesday in the cup semi? He played at right back didn't he? sheff weds was andersson's debut. he placed centre back.. then seem to think we switched him to centre mid for the 2nd leg. pretty sure berg's debut was against palace.. sticks in my mind.
Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I thought it was against Wednesday in the cup semi? He played at right back didn't he? I'd guess his debut was in the 3-2 win over Crystal Palace. On the same day Shearer, Ripley amongst others, had their debuts. Also he is one of 3 players to win the premier league with 2 different clubs. Impressive.
Iceman Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 I think we approached Arsenal but no reply so far. I get a feeling they will offer him as part of a package for Cahill.....be annoyed if they do why? do you maybe want Arsenal to offer Lansbury in exchange for Samba? we have so many midfielders in that position, that do we really need Lansbury? the key position is still the P Jones replecement, as well as 2 strikers and a defensive midfielder. The other one also would be a player to replace Emerton. Would like to see Jermaine Jones back here, but think we wont go back in for him, unless Schalke agrees to another loan or drops their asking price
Eddie Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I think we approached Arsenal but no reply so far. So there's no indication that a fee could be agreed or that the player has any interest in coming here?

paullarrygher Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Linked with Goran Pandev of Inter Milan in The Times "decent bets" transfer section today. Article mentions that Ibisevic is still number one and notes that we are also tracking El Hamadoui. An interesting one Pandev as he is not an out and out goal scorer and his record shows as such. At Lazio he was managing a goal every 3 games but has only managed a goal every 9 games at Inter. No mention of a fee though.
Torgeir Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Pandev is a good player but what we need is a goalscorer. Maybe he's 'C' on the list then. Ibisevic looks like the type of striker we need, just hope he's prolific enough to fire us up the table.
Ossydave Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Berg definitely wasn't at the club when we drew 3-3 with palace. What a game that was though, both Shearers goals were absolute screamers. Remember a young Southgate banging one in from the edge of the box too when Bobby flapped at a corner.
stu07 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I hope Cahill goes to Arsenal, means they will stay away from Samba. He only has a year left on his contract so i'm hoping he now puts in a transfer request. I don't think Samba will go to spurs, because he said earlier in the summer if he leaves it will be for Champions league football. Timely boost: Samba to return
Lee0r Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 3-3 v palace http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA3mICNU3Ps

mjwood00 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Berg and Andersson were signed at the same I think, same deal though PA was rated the better prospect.
Kelbo Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I can't remember Bergs debut specifically. I also regard him as one of the greatest players ever to pull on a Blue and White shirt. He even helped united become one of the greatest teams of all time. Perhaps one day, Henning may be the Manager of Blackburn Rovers. He has a decent win ratio at Lillestrom, but I guess i'm in dreamland thinking about that. Also - to tempt the negatives again - referring to languages; Do you think that perhaps this is an area that Steve Kean is particulary strong in? I am told he can speak Spanish, the language of Portugal, and ofcourse English. Got to be an improvement on the accent of Mr Dudley; Big "fancy a game of ping pong" Sam... Hodgson spoke Swedish, Italian, French and English!! sheff weds was andersson's debut. he placed centre back.. then seem to think we switched him to centre mid for the 2nd leg. pretty sure berg's debut was against palace.. sticks in my mind. Just checked, it was v Sheff Wednesday!
LeChuck Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I hope Cahill goes to Arsenal, means they will stay away from Samba. Arsenal won't come near Samba. So far they've gone for Cahill and Jagielka, both are comfortable on the ball and will fit into Arsenal's style of building from the back. Samba is different to those two, I can't imagine Wenger suddenly changing his mind about what type of player he wants for his squad at this stage.

T4E Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 If Samba doesnt play tomorrow it will say it all about his commitment to the club. If he does play.....I'll likely do a complete u-turn on him and go back to praying that he stays.
A cup of beans Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 The game against Palace was a 3-3 draw. Berg joined us later on in the season,I'm sure of that. and.. the palace game i meant is the 2-1 defeat at ewood.

If he does play.....I'll likely do a complete u-turn on him and go back to praying that he stays. I'd be very happy if he stays and we sign Onouha. I think we would have a much better defence.
A cup of beans Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I don't reckon Spurs will be able to afford him if they are keeping Modric either. gotta watch spurs.. they have habit of doing deals on the last day of the window. as i said in the samba thread.. keep at all costs - even if he's unhappy. IMO kean shouldve spoke to samba and given him a deadline. somthing like ; "if we dont get a bid before the 24th august.. then you wont be sold."
Hughesy Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 So not very far along then. So there's no indication that a fee could be agreed or that the player has any interest in coming here? Lansbury isnt signing a new deal, as he doesnt get enough game time - so he refuses. He is out of contract in 9 months time. Im sure they would rather get a fee/ percentage sell on that a tribunal which will give them very little. Also he wasnt @ Udinese so clearly not part of an already under-strength team.
ada2020 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 The cynic in me would say that Samba has overcome his mystery injury now that he realises the he won't get a move... there is still time yet Eddie.
Mullionvagrant Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Pedersen took months before he was up to PL standard, Salgado took a bit of time as well. It's a calculated risk which is okay, but at the moment we're bringing in a bit too many inexperienced players at the same time. In our position we might not have time to wait for everyone to come good, hopefully we do though. Somebody ought to remind Pedersen then that he supposed to be premiership standard LOL
Guest TheArtistFormallyKnownAsJB Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Hodgson spoke Swedish, Italian, French and English!! Just checked, it was v Sheff Wednesday! ...And how good of a record does Hodgson have as a manager? Liverpool was perhaps a step to far (not considering the ownership problems at the end of Rafa's reign) Otherwise pretty decent. Ironic how we are the major blot on his copy book though... as for the Palace game, Thanks for the youtube clip - brings back some fond memories.
