gotta watch spurs.. they have habit of doing deals on the last day of the window. :(

as i said in the samba thread.. keep at all costs - even if he's unhappy.

IMO kean shouldve spoke to samba and given him a deadline. somthing like ;

"if we dont get a bid before the 24th august.. then you wont be sold."

maybe he did! and thats why he's recovered for this weekends game ?? <_<<_<

Henny Berg did not sign for Rovers until January 1993 he and Patrick Anderson where signed at the same time, and at the time Anderson was the most expensive of the two,

Anderson made his debut in the league cup against Sheff Wednesday, whilst Berg made is before him, but can't quite remember against who

According to soccerbase, Berg made his league debut on Tuesday 2nd February 1993, in the 2-1 home defeat against Crystal Palace. He made three further appearences that season.

I apologise if thats the case, my BRFC book shows he and Anderson came together and were beaten by Sheff wed in a cup match at Ewood, Warhurst got three and surprisingly shows Berg was left back!!

It seems Chelsea want to loan Lukaku. I wouldn't mind having him as a second or third choice striker for Rovers this season...

2nd or 3rd striker, he would be number 1 by a mile. He's class, he will be the best striker in europe for years.

:rover: Cheers for that, kamy. that game stuck in my mind for a few reasons.

1 as the palace fans were put in the upper nutall street stand.. the seats (the half nearest the darwen end )this was strange as the darwen end wasnt demolished until later.

also i remember a drunk old guy outside the riverside after the game (you left and entered by the back steps back then).. he said "i would rather see a monkey with his skull crushed in, than kenny dalglish!"

odd isnt the word!

i wonder what he'd think of steve kean ??

anyway, back to transfers.. cisse joining another prem club would upset me! <_<

I will be so peed off if they get him on the cheap.

dan_bu dan_bu Newcastle United will make an offer for Freiburg's Papiss Demba Cissé until next Wednesday, according to "Kicker". #NUFC 1 hour ago Favorite Retweet Reply

Given up on him now, great player who was identified and overall would cost less that Raul with his wages but they've left it too late. If he goes castle with Demba Ba they will score loads. Wish we had got Pardew now to be honest, least if identifies a player he goes and gets them.

Could be me but I don't think P Cisse is all that. From that first list (way back when we were loaded and everything was rosy), Rondon seemed much better from the Youtube clips I saw as you can see Rondon scoring when under heavy pressure from defenders a la Prem (...and yes I know we're not getting Rondon). German defending in the clips I've seen of Cisse means he wasn't under as much pressure when he scored which makes me doubt his ability will translate that well to the Prem (at least in terms of us getting good value from the money he was asking for).

Just my humble opinion, if he signs for a Prem team then I guess we will see.

kelbs, it wasnt berg who got destroyed by warhurst - it was patrik andersson. we got rid of him after about 10 games. he went on to have a decent career.. barca and bayern!

berg's debut- im sure it was against crystal palace. we lost.. chris armstrong scored (he always scored against us).

I always found it strange that Patrik didn't do better for Rovers. CL winner with Bayern, played for Barcelona, international captain, 90+ caps, WC bronze medalist etc. One might think he matured late, but he was part of the team that reached the EC Semi Final in '92 and of course the 3rd place game in the '94 WC so he was pretty good by then already.

Someone mentioned Hodgson earlier; there's a connection here in that he was Patrik Andersson's manager at MFF. And for an Englishman, his Swedish is excellent. Did spend 14 years here though.

so where are these signings we are suppose to have made this week?

Something is definitely wrong with Rovers behing-the-scenes administration, we're taking forever messing around with work permits, medicals, passports, registrations etc. I guess this is what happens when you remove a structure of experienced professionals and replace with clueless amateurs.

reluctantnicko

His visa to fly in today hasn't arrived. Feekin unreal. May be in later. If not ...

Everyone seems to be struggling with paper work and Visas of late, Rangers and Celtic had a similar problem last week I believe with key players missing because of this.

Not as easy these days I guess with global terrorism.

You have a link?

If true then we should be all over that, bring him in Kean!

The only thong I know is that yesterday there were some news linking with a move to Benfica on loan.

Benfica already have too much foreigners so it is highly unlikely.

So, if it's true that Chelsea wants to loan him, I think Rovers would be a good option for him. He would be a first team player...

I believe Andersson made his debut as a sub against Wimbledon - which must have come as a culture shock to him - at Ewood on 9 January 1993. He came on in place of the great Kevin Moran - now there was a centre-back who could read a game and organise a defence. Berg made his debut as a sub against Palace on 2 February 1993. Both Berg and Andersson played in the home leg of the League Cup semi-final against Wednesday on 10 February 1993 and in the return on 14 February 1993.

It's remarkable that Andersson didn't make it at the Rovers because he went on to enjoy a very successful career. Which just goes to show that signing players from abroad can be a huge gamble. Berg was a roaring success while Andersson proved a flop here but became a huge success in Germany with Monchengladbach and even had a few seasons with Barcelona towards the end of his career. He also clocked up 90 odd appearances for Sweden at a time when they had a decent national team.

Those were truly happy days.

Yeah agree no end there, Salgado also eluded to it in his thing after the match on Sat.. with his quote "We're 10 days away [from the transfer window closing] and we don't know if new signings are coming or if any other players are leaving. We need to know that as soon as possible. It's very difficult for the manager to work like that"

Government changed the rules recently as well.. so VISAs especially from eastern European countries are getting much harder to attain... however the government has been talking about and setting this up for the last 6 months so should not be an excuse. Main reason for the changes have been to stop the ever increasing immagration issues this country has.
