Serbia is nowhere near the EU membership but Croatia is.

Andy Cryer in the LT this morning - Ahead of today’s Premier League Asia Trophy opener against Aston Villa in Hong Kong, Rovers look like beating a number of Europeans clubs to Petrovic’s signature and are also hopeful of having bids accepted for two more unnamed players in the next couple of days.

And - Meanwhile Rovers are still in talks with Ukraine outfit Dnipro over the future of their Croatian striker Nikola Kalinic.

The out of favour Rovers striker is desperate to finalise his switch but Rovers owners are understood to still be holding out for more than £6million.

Rovers are hopeful striker Benjani will sign a new one-year deal at the club, although he is now unlikely to join them in Hong Kong.

We're lucky to get £6m for him. I think most people on here who would like to see Kalinic leave, would settle for anything above £4m. He's been a flop, never looked close to being the player we all hoped he would have become.

Snap their hands off Venkys before it's too late!

I think the most likely signings for this summer will be:

Raul 2.5m

Petrovic 3m

Mongongou 2.5m

and a couple of loanee's.

8m total spent.... half of jones money and seeing that we only received that amount for jones up front its understandable.

if we sell Kalinic then we will need to go out and replace him with the money we receive.

Our line up next year could easily be:

Robbo

Salgado Samba Mongongou Givet

Petrovic N'zonzi

Hoilett Formica Olsson

Raul

Subs: Bunn Nelsen Rochina Peds Emerton [Kalinic's Replacement] Roberts

with bejani andrews etc as squad players. not a bad team at all.... but alot is depending on formica hitting the ground running next season.

Oh, so the SavaSerbia in the Lancashire Telegraph comments seems genuine after all. It is Petrovic! He was actually spot on when he said Petrovic will be flying here for a medical and signing yesterday. Nice.

As for Kean's comments, I believe he has amended his statement to European football in 4 years, and that it's no longer Champions League in four years. Maybe by European football, he is also referring to the Europa League?

I could be wrong, though.

You are

"He'd only played a small number of games for us but he wanted Champions League football. We're not at that moment [where we can offer him that] yet. Hopefully we will be in three or four years' time, but we appreciated he wanted to move on

No it's not, we got £16.5m for Jones guranteed so why isn't it being spent? If Man Yoo are paying in installments then we simply do the same with our purchases then. Man Utd HAVE to pay us at least £16.5m, even if they do it over the course of a year or two.

There is no reason (other than the bank loan) we shouldn't expect the full £16.5m to be re-invested.

You are

To be fair Ricky it depends where you get your quotes from, the Sun makes it look like Keans aiming for the CL in four years but the Guardian reads in way that suggest we are just after "European Football".

"To jump from where we were last season to the top four next season would be unrealistic, but the first building block will be ending up in the top half. We're positive we can do that. The owners and the fans should be excited about what we're doing here. Trying to deliver European football in three or four years for this club is achievable. We're not going to say we'll get it next year but, if we can get a foothold in the top half of the table, that's a realistic goal."

Hmmm, this bit....

"We've got three or four active bids that are actually out there and we're just waiting for confirmation those bids have been accepted. "

Sounds like bull to me, surely if you actually had "active" bids you would know if it was three or four you and you'd quote that number not just say, there's 3 or 4 which is quite vague.

If we 'spend' about 8 million on transfers, get ready for the cries of 'what a good window', despite that only being HALF of the Jones money and not even touching the supposed 5/10 million of Venky's OWN money.

Three possible explanations for this:

Either-

Kean does not actually know who we have bid for; or

he cannot count; or

he is cultivating his image as an international man of mystery !

It's a good job the aggregate wages of Raul, Petrovic and Mongongu's are expected to exactly the same as Phil Jones's...

otherwise your critism would just look silly!

Heard a strong rumour we are nterested in Shane Long of Reading. Think he would be a good addition to the squad.

good player would be more than happy to see him and raul up front next season

Rumor amongst the staff at Brockhall is that Rovers are close to signing 4 players. Take that as you want.

That can't be right thats what Kean has said and according to most of the sad acts that post on here kean is a lying @#/?.

Ok lets say outs:

RSC 90k a week

J Jones 60k

P Jone offered 70k

M Diouf 25k

Old diouf likely to leave 40k

Kalinic expected to leave 35k

Ins:

Raul at 34 will be 65k

Petrovic at 35k

Mongongu at 35k

even if these are not prefectly accurate, we still havea lot of room for wages.

so I hope you were not being sarcastic

Ok lets say outs:

RSC 90k a week - short term loanee

J Jones 60k - short term lonee

P Jone offered 70k - never actaully paid!

M Diouf 25k - ok

Old diouf likely to leave 40k - still here (although true blue thinks we should ask for £10m)

Kalinic expected to leave 35k - still here and would need replacing

Ins:

Raul at 34 will be 65k

Petrovic at 35k

Mongongu at 35k

even if these are not prefectly acurrate, we still havea lot of room for wages.

so I hope you were not being sarcastic - oh I most definitely was

I just hope we can finally conclude some deals. We blooming well need to add a bit of depth and quality to the team. I agree with the poster a few pages ago who said they'd rather buy some cheaper, good players than lob all the money on 1 or 2 big names who might show as much commitment as Rhodri Giggs' wife. I expect the 3 or 4 signings that are close to be Petrovic, Benjiani, Raul or Pavone, Mongo of Monaco.

Anyone else think that we are trying to square away positions in midfield and in the back first, and then buying a striker? It makes sense in a way, get your lower value deals done for low cost to fill out the squad, then take what's left and see how much you can invest in a goal scorer. It's a safer way of going about things than splashing 10m on a striker and then being forced out of deals later in the window due to lack of funds. Thoughts?
