Stuart Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Cryer says theres nothing in Podolski, hope he's wrong Please not more games. The only thing certain about Rovers at the moment is uncertainty.
pick32 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 whats the hold up with petrovic should be done by now surley? Just waiting for the work permit to come through before confirming it should be just a formality, should be issued within the next 48hrs.
Gav Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Are you aware of the two other targets for upfront then GAV? if so talk to your alter ego zac and release the names please Now don't be cheeky pick32, leave the clever comments from Matty and steb. I'm aware of another target, striker, he plays in Germany, never heard of him myself, but good record.
daveoftherovers Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Can't see Podolski, hasn't he had chances at a few big money moves before but rejected them because he loves the club he's at?? Doesn't that all change when they take your armband off you? It's not like footballers are not known to be precious or anything is it LOL

Would love Podolski by the way even though we have conflicting reports/rumours on interest in him.

67splitscreen Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I'm aware of another target, striker, he plays in Germany, never heard of him myself, but good record. André Schürrle / Didier Konan
Ferrit Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I see Rovers are up to their usual tricks, selling our brightest prospects/young players then the money magically seems to disappear despite being promised to pump it back into the club.
LeChuck Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 André Schürrle / Didier Konan Can't see it being either of those. Schurrle has just joined Leverkusen and Konan is small. Ibisevic is a good call. I'll throw in my guess of Stefan Kiessling. Seems to fit the bill for what we want. Edit: Looked at the top scorers for last season and Theofanis Gekas jumped out at me in 4th place. He did absolutely nothing at Portsmouth. This has dampened my enthusiasm somewhat.
daveoftherovers Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 As good a player as he is, he's not the big physical goal scorer that we are missing. We need someone who can be a better version of roberts. LOL, sorry mate, I don't want to offend, but are you actually turning down Podolski coming to our club???? Please tell me you're not, I don't want to misinterpret your post... If this is true and it comes off I will get leathered for a week!
Billy Castell Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I'll believe Podolski/Raul when they play against Wolves. Podolski is a pretty interesting one. His international record is brilliant, yet his club form is not so great. Perhaps he suits a certain formation or style of play, and Bayern and Koln don't play that way. Either way, it would be a good move, and we could cash in if he really gets going. If the rumours are true, then at least we are looking at strikers and forwards at long last.

he6rt6gr6m Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 A left winger is not what we need. I like Podolski, but I've always rated him as a left winger. Pushing Olsson to left back is an awful move. Givet is much more logical there.
farhanology Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Pavel Pogrenbyak of Stuttgart? Been linked with him two seasons back
BiggusLaddus Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 LOL, sorry mate, I don't want to offend, but are you actually turning down Podolski coming to our club???? Please tell me you're not, I don't want to misinterpret your post... If this is true and it comes off I will get leathered for a week! Definitely not against it. If this is a Bala special then I'm all for it. However, if this transfer it coming out our 'normal' transfer fund, then I would prefer the big money to be spent sorting out the glaring striker-shaped hole in our squad.
LeChuck Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 A left winger is not what we need. I like Podolski, but I've always rated him as a left winger. Pushing Olsson to left back is an awful move. Givet is much more logical there. Olsson is a natural fullback. He's everything a modern fullback should be. It's pretty common for wingers with limited attacking ability to be converted into attacking fullbacks nowadays. Givet is dinosaur in fullback terms, he offers nothing going forward. Olsson has always been a left back anyway, it was Allardyce who moved him into midfield. The problem is that his crossing is poor and he's not technical enough to drift around from that left wing. He's been better than anyone else we've had there recently but it's not his long term position. We seem to have been linked with several left wingers this window so I think Kean sees it the same. If Olsson stays at left back then I think he'll be playing Champions League football within a couple of years. He has everything to be brilliant in that position.

LeChuck is very passionate about this, but I still think his defending is not up to par for a left back, I'd rather have him on the wing I think he's great there as his fantastic goal against Bolton demonstrated.
True Blue & White Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 LOL, sorry mate, I don't want to offend, but are you actually turning down Podolski coming to our club???? Please tell me you're not, I don't want to misinterpret your post... If this is true and it comes off I will get leathered for a week! I wouldn't turn anyone down right now but I fear a lot of people are over hyping Podolski's talent based on the fact they remember him banging a couple of decent goals in against England and the fact he was flavour of the month and linked with all the big boys circa 3-4 years ago. If we still had Sparky in charge (and believed we'd actually get Podolski) I'd probably bbe more excited as it would be a little like the RSC signing, i.e a guys with massive publicity as the next big thing when he was young but never materialised playing in Germany. There has to be a reason why he's been playing for Koln for the last two years and hasn't been bought or courted by even the likes of Spurs/Sunderland who could easily afford him and buy anyone with a half fashionable name.
modes98 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I think Cryer is wrong on this one. Few people saying we have been monitoring him for a while and maybe he just isn't getting the infomation because we haven't firmed up our interest yet. I'll be glad when we've signed a couple of players and they can settle into the squad before the wolves game. He's not my type and the wombats are cr@p by the way. Denial is an even bigger sign Pfft, I take your opinion on board but you're wrong! Stick to your romantic songs

Defensively he's been poor Chris - I agree there. At the moment he's playing in his best position, midfield.
BPF Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 The messageboard that never learns. Speculation at the moment is as pointless as picking your 'Fantasy Rovers Team'. I'd advise you to just wait and see who turns up in blue and white.
