I personally feel Olsson should be at full-back and has the makings of a very good one at that.

I'll agree he does need work on his defensive game but then so do most young attacking full-backs, e.g. Rafael & Fabio.

He'll never be technically good enough to develop into a consistently good left-winger.

He can do just as much damage overlapping from full-back anyhow!

The messageboard that never learns.

Speculation at the moment is as pointless as picking your 'Fantasy Rovers Team'. I'd advise you to just wait and see who turns up in blue and white.

Probably won't happen but its better then talking about that stupid bank loan. :D

Its hope.

Olsson is a natural fullback. He's everything a modern fullback should be. It's pretty common for wingers with limited attacking ability to be converted into attacking fullbacks nowadays. Givet is dinosaur in fullback terms, he offers nothing going forward.

.

Nonsense. The prime function of a full back is to defend properly, and Olsson is a very poor defender. Givet on the other hand is a very good defender.

From as early as June.

Hard sell, just can't see it coming off, clubs in Europe would be all over him as soon as we place a bid.

exactly mate. there would be a procession of clubs lining up from all all corners of europe after this guy, which is why in my heart i don't think this is gonna happen. but as we all know, stranger thing things have happened.

A lot of you seem to think Podolski will be playing left wing.

Incorrect.

He will play up front.

Only plays left for Germany as they play with a front 3.. with Podolski and Muller playing off Klose..

He will be up front for us without doubt. 100% sure on this.

Would much prefer the money to go on an out and out striker, still Podo was good there when that was his main role at Cologne initially..

If we are signing him as a LW then obviously means Olsson is now the left back (which given the LW players we have been linked with seems Keans view).. really in two minds about him at LB to say the least and we looked much stronger in defense with Givet there, but then again as a LW he might be quick but his final ball is to often poor... having said that with a much more attacking player for him to work with on the left hand side.....

Not sure on the Raul thing.. he is not exactly the youngest of players.

Happy to hear we almost have the young defensive midfielder, he does looks class and defensive midfielders are probably the most likely to make it in the EPL anyway... will have to see how he settles in to the sunny NW.

Overally still think we should be looking at a spare right back though, Salgado is bound to really start dropping off the pace sooner rather than later.

Still concerned about what is happening with funds mind.. No funds, have to sell to buy, bank sorted, personal funds.. confusing.

Podolski is a big name across Europe but from his time at Bayern I doubt a top team will come in for him. Im not going to get my hopes up but it would certainly get people on Venky's side if he arrived. He would surely fall into the category of a marquee signing so presumably will be funded by the Rao's personally rather than taken out of the transfer budget???

A team made up of the players we have been linked with would push for the champions league. Really hope something comes from this.

Olsson has always been a left back anyway, it was Allardyce who moved him into midfield. The problem is that his crossing is poor and he's not technical enough to drift around from that left wing. He's been better than anyone else we've had there recently but it's not his long term position. We seem to have been linked with several left wingers this window so I think Kean sees it the same.

If Olsson stays at left back then I think he'll be playing Champions League football within a couple of years. He has everything to be brilliant in that position.

Gotta say I agree - I think Olsson does have the making of a reasonable left back. Personally I don't think he is any worse than Warnock. His positional play isn't 100% - but he does offer badly needed pace - and I remember a number of times when he has played left back when his pace has helped out when other players wouldn't have been able to get back. Too many people judge him on his early days - his later performances have been much improved. Also - he does offer far more going forward than Givet - which is tactically far better for the team as a whole.

2010 WC 4-2-3-1.

They rotated Podoiski Oezil, Muller, Schweinsteigerand and Kroos behind the loan striker Klose or Cacau.

His goals to game ratio suggests this is his best position. Kean may see it differently of course. Not that we will get the chance to find out.

I'd love a piece of humble pie though. ;)

Definitely not against it. If this is a Bala special then I'm all for it. However, if this transfer it coming out our 'normal' transfer fund, then I would prefer the big money to be spent sorting out the glaring striker-shaped hole in our squad.

Agreed! Respect my friend...

Denial is an even bigger sign ;)

Pfft, I take your opinion on board but you're wrong! Stick to your romantic songs

Do you have a problem with gay people modes? You seem to be discussing that more than the current transfer rumours.

The mods won’t accept homophobia you know, so be careful :D

Everything done but the work permit apparently promoted, and I'm hearing that will happen within 48 hours of yesterday, as it should be a formality.

Great Success. 18 games for the national team should be enough for a work permit.

I see Rovers are up to their usual tricks, selling our brightest prospects/young players then the money magically seems to disappear despite being promised to pump it back into the club.

I fail to see how Kalinic falls into either of those categories. Anything we get for him is a bonus. Whether its spent wisely afterwards is a different issue.

correct , but he's too slow and not mobile enough to offer ANYTHING going forward , if you want your full backs to stop at the half-way line then fine , but look throughout modern day football at the best teams and the full-back's always overlap and can get as many crosses or being in as many attacking positions as the wingers

Givet should play CB and LB only in emergencies

Couldnt agree more Neal. Had the same treatment myself, its like they think we owe them something because they have been members longer! oh and if one is in trouble you can be sure there mates will all back them, never seen such a pathetic bunch of mutual back slapping! They should be welcoming new members and not pulling the 'ive been a member since' card...no ones opinion is more valuable than anothers! Dont stress dude they want there lil boys club to remain unchanged yet continue to post on a public forum? Set up a private one if your so upset by newbies!

I would have thought that when one joins a new club of any sort be it a golf club or a website one has a bit of respect for the current members. One does not go in shouting the odds and upsetting the members. One plays it softly softly or you get slung out on your ear. All we want is a bit of respect for the way things are done on this site. It takes a little time to learn that. Is that too much to ask?

I'd agree with BagBar's statement if he wasn't such a mouthy type who gives it the big I am all the time. Like Al said, coming on any site and giving it gob will not win you friends.

On topic, now GAV is part of the ITK crew, has anyone got the answer to his mystery striker?
