JAL Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Would explain the lackadaisical approach to strikers that has been going on. Perhaps Kean already thinks he has what he needs and unless we are going to spend big (10M) we only need another backup striker, preferably on a free (such as Pavone/Marica). We dont need back up strikers teacup. We need the real deal, a frontman (or two) with a cause, on a mission to wreak havoc amongst other premiership defences.
jim mk2 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 according to wiki Marica has joined schalke on a two year deal so write that man off... So that's the end of the D-list. Who's top of the E-list ?
Stevo Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Schalke have tonight confirmed his signing on 2 year deal, Lazy journalism? There is real stories out there and they aint had a sniff, or got an incline, poor show IMO, If we can find out why can't they? after all they get paid for this Anything you can/want to reveal?
glen9mullan Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Anything you can/want to reveal? there is much better irons in the fire, i'm glad our interest was just a passing 1, Cnt reveal much at present cos i have been silenced, but keep the faith better players on the agenda

I agree, my point was from Kean's perspective. In almost two windows, who would you say has been the best striker we have been linked to? One who is not a longshot and fills all the criteria you have stated above?

Lets wait to see who feeds Kammy, Nixon, and Cryer next with some bullshit, then we'll discuss whoever they throw out to us. This seems to be the scheme of things at the mo, does it not.
booth Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Somebody asked do I say anything positive about Rovers, well i'd say in all honesty Jason Roberts is by far, our best striker at the club... by far. Okay this was a reserve game, but by any standards this is class. Put it this way I doubt Roberts has or will ever score a goal like that in his career.
Scott18 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Okay this was a reserve game, but by any standards this is class. Put it this way I doubt Roberts has or will ever score a goal like that in his career. I remember Roberts scoring a brilliant goal against Everton 2009/10 season.
mr bishi Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Okay this was a reserve game, but by any standards this is class. Put it this way I doubt Roberts has or will ever score a goal like that in his career. Rochina was head and shoulders above everyone in that game until he was ruthlessly taken out.
Teacup Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Rochina was head and shoulders above everyone in that game until he was ruthlessly taken out. Do you remember what position he was playing in? He seemed to approach that goal from midfield?

I have the names and in my opinion 1 is a gamble Podolski despite what Cryer thinks is definate and has been a key target for many weeks the other is also a quality player and would suit Rovers. Forget the press, they are running round trying to guess, Venkys are very anti press after what has been written, who could blame them? Some of the players we went for last week where not inspiring despite us getting positive vibes from their clubs, the general consensus from the selling club was we can have when they have their replacement in place, although I sincerly hope these clubs never buy a replacement as i wouldnt fancy either of those they looked at last week, The ones that are hot now are good players and fit the bill On Raul, not a prayer, he is not available although a new deal for him is unlikely, plus he dnt fancy it after the dirty tricks we played last season, All I can say is lets wait and i think you will be pleasantly surprised. We need to change how we do things now, we go in for the kill get good vibes and then dnt follow up, We have also tried to get players on loan who frankly should be purchases and I can understand clubs not wanting to play the loan card with rovers
mr bishi Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Do you remember what position he was playing in? He seemed to approach that goal from midfield? Just behind kalinic.

JAL Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Okay this was a reserve game, but by any standards this is class. Put it this way I doubt Roberts has or will ever score a goal like that in his career. Top quality ! Though his other goal in this game was very good. The way he changed direction from ten yards out, similar to a tennis player who waits for the ball to drop out of the sky before hitting it the opposite way to which his opponent thinks its going. Looking forward to seeing Formica after the negative reports on him and Rochina play, definitely. Though that doesnt excuse Stephen Kean and Rovers from not going out and bringing in, a top striker or two for the coming season.
Baz Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 JAL - Roberts is by far and away our ONLY striker. I understand and agree by the way - we need to be going for top quality, not freebies who are being allowed to leave their clubs. I see Bentdner is leaving Arsenal for £8m - to me he'd be ideal. Young, strong, good footballer, got a point to prove and lots of ability - the kind we make into good players. I know he's not deadly in the box and does miss chances (and a bit of a big head - but then Bellamy, Dickov, Hughes, Savage can be idiots too) but his type of stiker is what we need - the ability to hold up the ball and bring others into play. If not a combined loan of Bellers & Jo or Bellers and RSC would also be very good IMO. although if that is financially sound I dont know.

Although Bentdner is the kind of player i imagine we'd be interested in, it wouldn't suprise me if no enquiries have been as to avoid a stir regarding Samba. Arsenal being such cheapskates would obviously want a swap for the big man... Just my take on it. P.S. Jo has gone to Internacional in Brazil i think.
BPF Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Marica isnt a target he signed for schalke. and yet I had a post deleted earlier for suggesting that speculation was pointless at the moment...

On Bentdner though I take your point, but there's no harm in asking. If the Arse ask for Samba, we either overvalue him, or just say no. £8m in the current climate (if we have £8m) seems a fair price to me. Its not like we are competition for Arsenal.

It is a fair price, I agree. I think that the Kean and Co would be worried if Arsenal state they want a swap for Samba that he may kick off a bit to push it through, therefore deem it not worth the hassle. Would be a decent signing for Rovers at the right price though. Podolski would be a magic but I am doing my upmost to try to not even think about it.
colbert Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 with all the 1,000 of posts that have been written through out the meaningless threads that have linked eddie the eagle edwards to david beckham; no one has been signed! As I've posted more than once - I'll be happier when we've actually signed someone!
colbert Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Another point I would like to make............ How is it that on the last day of the transfer season, so many transfers get 'rushed' through at the final hour, yet after many weeks we have not managed to sign a anyone. what could possibly take so long to do a deal??? discuss.
