philipl Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 That was always Kean's vision - with so called younger development players. The marquee players came from our owners. To be honest a mixture of the two is ideal - as Rovers do possibly need a high profile player or two to increase the clubs media image - getting them in is another matter. At the end of the day nobody at the club ever said we had £50m to spend - I think Kean said we had the biggest budget we have had for some time. Given the constraints under the Trust that could have been anything from tuppence upwards. The £50m came indirectly from Nicko - who never actually said we had that budget - but had a list of players we were after that would cost that much. Time to judge is 31st August - then you can put the boot in. Kean said £40m budget before Phil Jones was sold.

imy9 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Kean said £40m budget before Phil Jones was sold. When did he say that?
sjsbrfc Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Kean said £40m budget before Phil Jones was sold. Nicko said that, not Kean
broadsword Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 We're going to do it slightly differently. Yep, we're doing it differently alright.
Speedie Dived Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Nicko said that, not Kean Kean said that we would be probably breaking our transfer record. Therefore... £5 million venkys money per window £7.5 million (minimum) to break the transfer record £16 million Jones money is £28.5 million. The difference was then the potential (still highly possible) of Samba sale, giving you £40 million However, we did not know about the bank issue at the time. The massive unknown is the money Belhadj has down the back of his sofa, which he now appears intent on spending

Why separate mate? I think the record transfer would have factored in the sales.
Roversider Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Nicko said that, not Kean, Kean has been pretty bullish but hasn't quoted specific numbers that I remember. Personally I get very twitchy when huge numbers are suggested, I am happy with a regular input of cash every transfer window of a moderate level. Rovers need balance to ensure a long-term future. If we end up keeping Samba and adding a couple of forwards and a centre-half as well as Petrovic I will be happy. Still plenty of time and we have Formica and Rochina to contribute this season. Numbers are irrelevant, it's what we get on the pitch that matters, that includes the young lads we are developing, maybe the likes of Blackman can shine.
aXept Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 sky saying we've made improved offer for goodwillie Link? Can't find it, just the story about the rejected offer..
booth Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Link? Can't find it, just the story about the rejected offer.. It's not online yet but reported on the channel.
Taggart Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Channel 405 is the link I think he meant on the webby site - just checked and the story isn`t up there yet - what did it say on teh skysports news Ads ? just that we had improved the offer. Anyone got any views on Goodwilly ? I must admit i know nothing about him at all, talented, eye for goal, pace, finishing ?
aXept Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Channel 405 is the link Aha, then I understands why I can't find anything on their webpage...
AJW Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 potentially good business imo kalinic out and Goodwillie and Petrovic in and £1.5m profit
dhughes07 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I think people would be pleasantly surprised by goodwillie, he looks a decent player. He is only young stats can paint a bad picture, not comparing but look at shearers before he joined us they was not brilliant or Santa cruz for that matter.

Being honest, what is he like in comparison to Gally or Derbs when they were here ?
dhughes07 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 From what I have seen he reminds me a lot of Kevin Gallacher and he started at Dundee united too
SirLarsIII Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 BBC says the offer from Blackburn is now 2.8 mil. Madness!! 2 mil up front and rest depending on apperences. Way to expensive
roversfanben Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14344125.stm I don't think that is too expensive. The extra 800k will only be paid if he reaches a certain amount of goals, and if he does then surely he is worth the extra 800k?
imy9 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 £2 million plus add ons is not that mush in all honesty in this day and age. Goodwillie looks a decent prospect and worth a punt for that amount of money. I would be hoping that Goodwillie is number 3 striker and we sign TWO more players of proven quality.
roverandout Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 not a bad signing as long as he is NOT our main striker purchase this summer.
den Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 So when Kean told us all that we had the biggest transfer budget in rovers history, who thought we would have been after David Goodwillie? Goodness me, some people are easily pleased
xtp Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 He scored 19 goals in 44 appearances for Dundee last season. That's not too bad. I don't think we'd struggle to get £2 million back for him if he does flop. Not convinced by the very little I've seen of him, but he seems a decent enough signing, given age, potential and cost.
