Who would you like to buy who a) isn't too piddling and B) isn't so expensive as to give us a ludicrous wages to turnover ratio?

I'm guessing Den doesn't have a clue..he's too busy dissing any name which gets mentioned to have time for suggestions of his own...

Remember Jon Stead ? great first season, quality goals, made some money from him, no loss, no harm but scored some goals.

Sureley this could prove more adventurous and rewards with Goodwilly ?

Good points, but we all knew deep down Stead was never good enough. If this new kid is in the Stead bracket then it's worry time.

at the end of the Souness era when we started to struggle jon Steads goals kept us up the season after he couldnt score for toffee !

this goodwillie lad does look decent but can he do it in the prem is the 100million dollar question ? cant be worse than Roberts ... :brfcsmilie: .. cardiff , Celtic , QPR , blackpool ,Boro , rangers all after him

You won't be saying that if like Stead he ended up keeping from being relegated. I know I wouldn't anyway.

Taken me a while to get this from my mate ex scottish pro, he says this about Goodwillie, he wont be bullied, works hard and will never let their back four have a moments peace, likens him to toothache, can score with head and feet, tap ins and spectacular and has reasonable accelleration, can hold the ball up well and links up play well too, thats as seen when playing in the Scottish league.

He says it does depend how he adapts to the prem and needs a bit of luck early doors to set him up but he does reiterate, the Prem is quite different to the Scottish league but he states over the years there have been good ones such as Andy Gray, Archibald, Gilzean, Law, Dalglish etc so who knows, he told me, its up to the lad and how he copes,

Stead's goals kept us up without doubt, but like i said, you just knew he wasn't good enough.

Worse than Roberts? In terms of finishing and striking a ball properly, there are not many worse than Jase the Ace. Let's hope he has his power and acting abilities :-)

If you flash back 12 months, the same clubs were after Kris Boyd. Completely different players i know, but Boyd made Snoopy look positively energetic

Wow. Just totted it up. Rovers have been linked with 71 players in mainstream media this summer - almost signed one

I know! It's amazing how many stories they can make up.

Aren't they skint?

I dunno. They sound a bit like us!

"The Ibrox side have failed in their attempts to sign five players in recent weeks – Neil Danns, Craig Conway, Tomer Hemed, Kamil Glik and Kenny Miller – and Ally McCoist must be wondering what is going on in the corridors of power at Ibrox, as target number six slips through their grasp.

And with the reported £15 million transfer kitty – on top of the initial £5 million – rumoured to be available to the Rangers manager, the question must be asked: Does Ally McCoist actually have a say in transfer matters? Because you can bet that if Walter Smith wanted those players the hierarchy at Rangers would have jumped through hoops to get them."

most of the people on here probably weren't born when these guys played.

So when Kean told us all that we had the biggest transfer budget in rovers history, who thought we would have been after David Goodwillie?

Goodness me, some people are easily pleased ;)

Yep, and some people are never pleased. It takes all kinds to make a messageboard. :rover:

Ha ha, you cannot beat a personal vendetta against a player that has cost you money. If i ever meet Marcus Stewart i will not be responsible for my actions.

So, is it bad form to have a Goodwillie Tatoo? ha ha

Not sure Veevs, at the end of the day you and I and all(or the vast majority) of others on here have no idea how the SKY tv money is handled internally.

If we received the amount up front that you mentioned for PJ, then factoring in the £5mill venkys put into the club themselves that is close to the sum you mention which I would imagine would appease the banks. An outstanding budget of £2-4million is easily recoverable from a football club I would have thought, given as you say there is still an outstanding sum on the jones transfer.

I was only making a point that the money is easily accounted for so long as you have a basic idea of the happenings at the club, as you rightly point out I forgot agent fees in january, something I'm sure a few of our erstwhile posters in here slated venkys for not so long ago.

The Sam pay off, I was working on him having only six months to go (give or take) on his contract, I agree thinking about it that it could have cost a lot more to get rid when you consider managers earn millions per season too.

You mean your mate Roversinsider missed this one?

I don't know how. He listed just about every proffessional striker in his lists before.

Can't think of much to be pleased about Tonyoz. Feel free to start the list.

We're playing [by the skin of our teeth] in the English Premier League, we're not a lower league club. we're going to be competing against some of the best players in the world. There's no room for squads of limited ability. We have a squad of limited ability. We need players who can come into the first team, improve it immediately and compete with the best the PL has to offer.

The fans on here who were adamant that losing 7-1 to Man Utd wasn't acceptable, are seemingly in favour of bringing in the likes of Goodwillie. Explain that to me.
