Breaking SSN: Blackburn agree fee for dundee utd striker david goodwillie. No idea how long thats been up though, only just turned over. Does this mean the snag is sorted?

Look at the Goodwillie thread.

The problem was with Dundee Utd not Rovers. was over him and his agent getting 10% of the transfee fee as a clause in his contract says.

I can confirm upson is still unsigned and free

Not for me either..as a free agent he'd probably want at least £50k a week.

I'd much rather Mongongu, probably get him for half the wages of Upson, that'd effectively pay for his transfer fee over his contract and leave us with someone much younger and also with the potential to sell on if we have to in the future...

Reality is he will hold out for the highest sign on and wages offered, tho as the season approaches will hopefully reduce his demands.

Don't forget he's an experienced international am sure he could help teach Hanley and other youngsters some things

I have to say that for all that they are naive about football as a whole, the venkys group are large scale business organisation. They know how contracts work, they have lawyers who know how contracts work. In fact they probably have quite a lot of lawyers who deal with contracts. That at least is one side of the operation that they are going to be well equipt to deal with.

All these rumours that people are jumping on, 'venky's didn't understand this contract', 'Venky's didn't understand this clause', I can't see them being correct.

They are not idiots.

(Disclaimer for those who will jump on me for this post - I am not saying that they are doing a great job of running the club, in fact I am passing no judgement on their ownership at all, just that they are experienced business people who will know what they are doing when it comes to contracts. This is all.)

Contractual Law is totally different in the UK as opposed to India, indeed, ask Brits who purchased homes in Spain, some of them extremely wealthy businessmen!!

Upson would be a waste of time and wages. We should look for someone with potential, not a guy clinging to the PL gravy train.

We need a bit of experience if we loseSamba, potential isnt enough, need a blend of youth and experience.

I was very very very impressed with Adam Johnson yesterday playing in a kind of striker role.

Great vision, running, pace, skill, sweet left foot - i really think he could be a 15 - 20 goal a season striker if he changed position.

I would break the bank for him.

Agreed, he could be a sweet, sweet player. I read something in the BBC gossip page about Fulham looking to take the lad on loan for a year. If Adam Johnson being farmed out is on the cards, we really should be all over that.

If (when, sadly) we lose Samba, Upson is probably the best bet out there. I am no fan of Upson as an England player but he has enormous PL experience and is a very solid defender most of the time.

Having seen how flakey we were at the back in HK, having Upson's organisation and experience would be incredibly important to us.

The defence in both matches in hong kong were a shambles. Upson would bring the experience - with or without Samba.

This is true, but with Venky's we are talking an international operation. Besides, I'm willing to bet that the first thing they did when purchasing rovers was employ a uk based lawyer or legal firm. Again, its a fairly basic thing - if you're purchasing a business that is based and deals entirely in a country that you do not currently operate a business in you would get a lawyer who understands the contractual legal system in that country.

Even more so if you bought said business with a view to using it to expand your other ventures into said country.

It's a bit different from buying a villa on the costa del sol.

You'd expect martin Goodman to know what's in the contracts being the financial director, not been sacked as I know of ....... Probably just more gossip.

I for one don't remember Nicko mentioning a sell on clause when we bought him, seem to remember the fee being spread over a term though.
