chocky Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Ha Ha no probs Fife and it wasn't meant as a slur or ought. I think Goodwillie will be a great signing myself.

Baz Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Petrovic and Veirinha next, hopefully before the weekend to give them a chance to bed in before the season starts. After that I'd hope for a centre back and the long-hoped-for "name" striker and then I think we're done. I'd hope for more than 3 strikers at the club (I'm discounting Blackman as I dont think he has the quality, and those who can fill the support striker role - Formica, Rochina, Hoilett), even if the last is a season-long loan deal. 3 doesnt give us any cover for injuries / loss in form etc. Also we need another defensive central midfielder - if Andrews leaves (likely), we are left with Nzonzi, Petrovic & Dunn - cant rely on Grella being fit, and whilst Emo & Ped can do a job, its not their best position. Emo should be threatening Salgado for his position IMO.
roverthepond Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Someone who I was hoping that we would look at is Brek Shea. He's an MLS striker for FC Dallas and has improved drastically this season and will likely be called up to the US national team. He's strong, quick, big, and of course has a desire to eventually move to Europe. I'm not sure what it would take to bring him here, but he's a talented young player. FC Dallas is in the CONCACAF Champion's League this year so it will be interesting to see how he does against the tougher Mexican teams.

Jack of all trades, master of none.
Mercer Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Hasn't Kean said we will bring in three - assuming Petro & Willie complete, that leaves one other whether it be a centre back, midfielder, winger or striker. At least Petro & Willie appear to be the right age with some pedigree and will improve, however, far removed from the 'proven quality' we thought we'd get. The mind boggles.
T.J.Newton Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 id rather we aimed for a champions league place (not this year obviously) and ended up with a uefa spot than say where aiming for uefa spot and end up with nowt, clubs have to set targets so may aswell set them high. sorry this was meant for the steve kean thread, carry on gossiping.

Club's also have to be realistic. We are a million miles from Champions League. It's not just a case of bringing players in, it's hanging on to them as well. The top 6 can just cream off your talent at will, as has proved this summer. So if we bring in 3 unearthed diamonds this summer then it's more than likely they would be gone within 2-3 years.
budha Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Hasn't Kean said we will bring in three - assuming Petro & Willie complete, that leaves one other whether it be a centre back, midfielder, winger or striker. "From other clubs, we can’t mention names as these players belong to other clubs but we shall sign at least three players before the season begins." Wise money is on Benjani being the third.

Look at Man City, chopping and changing so much has led to a totally unstable side.
sulli9 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 and kean said at least 3 players before the start of the seasonso maybe between wolves game at sept the 1st there might be more
aXept Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Dont know if anyone cares about what he writes anymore, but anyway... reluctantnicko Alan Nixon Goodwillie now looking good. Player meeting manager and owners. Yes, they're here ...
Nelsta Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Bit of a turn-a-round from "his agents offering him to other teams" he was spouting yesterday.
neophox Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Did Warner sign for Rovers? It does appear that the Rao brothers are in Blackburn with Keen, surely not only for Willie, but its good that they show how much they want him. Expect Willie to be announced with Petrovic later this week. I think they waiting Mongongu to join too, just waiting to get his passport sorted. The players have to have time to gel too. Look at Man City, chopping and changing so much has led to a totally unstable side. Good point but we haven't changed so much? Expect Hoilett, Olsson, Formica, Rochina, Willie and Petro to shine for us! Look at this eleven: Robinson Salgado, Samba, Nelsen/Givet, Olsson Rochina, Nzonzi, Petrovic, Hoilett Formica, Goodwillie Quite a young team except Nelsen and Salgado, alot of pace and technique

A bit of experience and know how needed.
Roversi Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 can anyone tell me why Nicko has suddenly stopped posting?
Hekla Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Our midfielders and forwards would be like lambs to the slaughter. A bit of experience and know how needed. Agree in some ways. Jermaine Jones would be perfect to compliment the younger guys.
rogerjonesgloves Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Agree in some ways. Jermaine Jones would be perfect to compliment the younger guys. What was it Alan Hanson said, "you win nothing with kids!"
dr_awol Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Look at this eleven: Robinson Salgado, Samba, Nelsen/Givet, Olsson Rochina, Nzonzi, Petrovic, Hoilett Formica, Goodwillie Quite a young team except Nelsen and Salgado, alot of pace and technique also 3 big targets for set pieces and corners
dubdubdub Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 For me...down the middle you need at least one experienced player in defence and midfield. Granted I don't think many would complain at having two jones' at the back. The man had character though. None of our young midfielders seem to have though. Can't speak for petsy ...if he signs.
booth Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 can anyone tell me why Nicko has suddenly stopped posting? He's fled to Twitter.
hawkiiz Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Don't forget we could mix it with Robbo Peds-Dunn-Grella-Emo Roberts A bit short on numbers in defense and for strikers though, but age wise we have a good mix in midfield.
dubdubdub Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Top ten with that team...easy. Who needs a defence?
Teacup Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 also 3 big targets for set pieces and corners Samba, Petrovic, Nzonzi - Think they are all over 6ft 4?
