Teacup Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 anyone know how to find nicko on twitter? https://twitter.com/#!/reluctantnicko
Billy Castell Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I do wonder if Barry White has a plan B for the marquee signing if Raul decides to go to Spain. And I'd be quite keen on Pav'enko as well, I have always felt he has talent that has not shone at Spurs.
AmazinTim Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I thought Pavly shoulda been top of our list, especially after Harry has spent 2 seasons mismanaging him. Loads of talent and she shows it whenever Harry lets him get a run of games in.

A cash plus player (Pav) for Samba would soften the blow if we are to lose him and not exactly an unrealistic deal...hes a very decent striker!
roverthepond Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 is it just me who isnt too keen on raul I think he would be good for a year. Would provide some optimism for the season. Offer leadership and would be good for Goodwillie to have a guy like him around.
Blueboy Downunder Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 exactly RTP....it was the same with cole and stead, they played very well together, albeit stead ended up leaving. goodwillie would certainly benefit from playing with a good experianced pro.....raul, would fit that bill perfectly.

BuckyRover Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Agreed. I'd be more confident knowing that a leader of the quality of Raul was in the side going into the new season-could give the players the confidence for the new season they need to drive forward. (certainly not all the answers but team spirit can lift teams). Having said that i'm currently on holiday in Spain and am going to take some convincing to return to the u.k i can see its going to take some negotiations/finance to get Raul to rainy u.k. It's not rainy at the moment. It's sweltering
pick32 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Even if Gibson is a better player than Andrews which there is no real answer for as it is a matter of opinion, Gibson wouldn't fit anywhere into our system we play with two DM and he cant play there and we already have rochina, formica, dunn, Hoilet and maybe goodwillie to play behind the main striker.

Probably why we showed and interest in him - heard his ridicolous wage demands and then decided to pursue Petrovic.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 is it just me who isnt too keen on raul Raul wouid be a good short term signing BUT seems a 'cheap option'. Will be a little disappointed if this is the 'big' signing that's being mooted.
glen9mullan Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I do think Gibson talk is very premature at this point, The interest was a few weeks back, and we left it at that, The Loan market is one we will explore but i expect this to be nearer the end of the window IF we don't secure our full time targets. Andrews leaving ect has no baring on this, We have many players at the club that will struggle to get a game and are eating valuable wages. Andrews is not considered by most fans as a player good enough for our best 11 so a loan move/permanent transfer suits us. Other player like E D Diouf ect will also be part of the culling process, Yes it seems many leaving not many coming, but last thing we need is a squad bulging with players not good enough for the first team. It makes sense to get rid of these and free up space, I agree we have left things very very late this summer to get new blood on board, and by not having these in now, may see us struggle a little initially as new players need to time to gel. Too many wholesale changes could see us playing catch up which is a big worry. However all our signings bar freebies will already have a good pre-season under their belts at their current clubs, and the way our players have been slogged maybe its best we didnt have them in earlier, Rovers remain confident we will have players in place of the right quality, and they are unified in this opinion, We have to wait and see and come the end of September we shall know a little at how our season may pan out
LeChuck Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I'd put money on Santa Cruz arriving on loan near the end of the window. City will have to subsidise his departure pretty heavily if they want him to move on.

It's fair enough rovers taking a gamble on DG I suppose, but I do have reservations about him, certainly for this season anyway. To me, the really interesting striker will be the next one. Because if he doesn't arrive, or he's not up to the job, we're going to really struggle.
DaveLad Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 glen9mullan, Thats a good post & one of the few that i agree with.
AJW Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I'd put money on Santa Cruz arriving on loan near the end of the window. City will have to subsidise his departure pretty heavily if they want him to move on. I agree , incidently when do clubs have to declare their "25" players for the season ( i know they can have more than that which makes a mockery of the rule)
den Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Also, what's happening with Benjani? if he's signing, then why isn't he getting games under his belt, because he'll be no use to us if he isn't fitter than last season? and if he isn't signing, well that leaves us with Roberts and Goodwillie.
booth Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 is it just me who isnt too keen on raul Not sure, but I have to ask why you wouldn't be keen on a fellow that's kept himself pretty fit, is still scoring goals for fun, would be commercial (shirt sales, etc) and good for PR, and would be relatively cheap. I reckon we'd get a couple of years out of him, and he'd be good for the changing room.
alexanders Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Also, what's happening with Benjani? if he's signing, then why isn't he getting games under his belt, because he'll be no use to us if he isn't fitter than last season? and if he isn't signing, well that leaves us with Roberts and Goodwillie. and hoilett, rochina and formica also as alternatives.
den Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 and hoilett, rochina and formica also as alternatives. They're not strikers Alexanders.
Eddie Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I agree , incidently when do clubs have to declare their "25" players for the season ( i know they can have more than that which makes a mockery of the rule) I believe that you have to submit one list before your first match as every player in your squad must be registered, but a final list does not have to be submitted until September 1st.
