How has it taken us all summer to find out that Raul wasn't interested in the first place?

Maybe because he wasn't our first choice and we were concentrating on other targets instead of dicking people around by talking intimately to every potential target. It's nice to know the calibre of players we believe we can afford to bring to the club. Even if we were slow on the uptake, lessons may also have be learned for the future at the very least.

Another kick in the teeth. Let's face it nobody who is anybody wants to sign for Rovers whilst Kean is the manager and we are owned by the clueless chicken chasers.

Yeah of course that's the reason.

Schalke official site.

This Tuesday (16.8.) FC Schalke 04 took an official request from the Blackburn Rovers knowledge, in which told of the Premier League club interested in signing from Raul to be. "Both our coach Ralf Rangnick and my colleague Peter Peters and I have always stressed that we do not want to leave him," explained manager Horst Heldt.

Nevertheless, the Schalke players informed on the interest from England. Heldt, "Raul told us that he wants to stay with Schalke 04 and asked us to cancel the Blackburn Rovers. We have already done. We are pleased that Raul wants to continue to contribute to all that we are sporting success. "

We won't pay £150k a week, simple as that.

and lets face it, nor should we.

Do you think it was down to wages?

Do you think Schalke are paying him that much?

Maybe the reason. Or maybe a smoke screen. Sorry we tried to sign players, but -----

RSC 90k, Kalinic 30k, Andrews 21k. It's not far off being enough - and he'd have more impact than those three put together.

Gutted doesn't even come close :( no doubt the media will love this.

Yup..

Another big name to add to a long list of failure.

Not sure to be honest, but philipl maybe able to put a bit of meat on the bones regarding tax and wages.

Raul was asking for £160k a few weeks ago.

Why lodge an official bid if you know his salary and can't meet it? The fact it was over in 5 minutes suggested we didn't even offer him anything - and if we did it was before the bid so we surely would have known he was going to say no. Something not quite right here.

Yeah of course that's the reason.

Would you want play for this set of losers if you were a prominent football player?

This deal has been 'on-going' since June, his wage demands came to light around 3wks ago and the deal looked like a non-starter. Todays news probably came from the fact he'd fallen out with the manager, publically, and we decided to go in with a bid that was accepted, spoke to the players agent and then the deal hit the buffers.

To have bad news buried today wouldn’t have been bad thing either :D

Seems strange to me. Talk sports german report believed raul was going to leave after falling out with heldt. He didn't celebrate his goal at the weekend and refused to be on the player board. It sounds like they want rid by all accounts.

We don't appear to have got down to discussing wages he rejected us out of hand.

on talksport earlier.. raffa honigstein pretty much said raul was unhappy at schalke and didnt see eye to eye with the coach also was unhappy at being asked to play a deeper midfield role!

i trust what ive been told (about him wanting to come) and the people that told me.

something not right. no direct quotes from the player. could schalke have used rovers as publicity??? could raul have used rovers to give him more power ?? to get him back playing upfront.. or did he wrangle more money out of schalke ??

whatever.. this is soul destroying. im a gutted rover right now!

Zac confirms that Rovers knew exactly what Raul wanted weeks ago, and that he was happy to come to Ewood if we paid the wages.

So are we talking about Raul tonight? or Keans driving conviction?

ignore anything from rovers side.. and look at his about-turn at schalke.

he's gone from snubbing the manager, being unhappy -to wanting to play for them again and everything is rosy.. in the space of 3 days..
