roverandout Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 sounds good but how far down the line are we and how realistic a prospect is it of gettig him here?
67splitscreen Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 sounds good but how far down the line are we and how realistic a prospect is it of gettig him here? Club not approached as far as I know, the usual tapping up scenario, find out if the player would come, what sort of package is he after, then make your move.
braddock Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 But they are owned by someone who looks Sheikh Mansoor in the eye billion for billion. You may be right but I'll ask someone else on finances. Anyone knows about this guys money?

whalleyrover Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Been out in Ribble Valley and overheard worrying conversation from Rovers execs. If Kamy is reading this please contact me or could someone pass on this message. Thanks
67splitscreen Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 He is available, according to Nicko's latest tweet.
gazsimm Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 lets hope salgado can convince him to move to rovers then, i think he will finish his career off back in spain though!
67splitscreen Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 lets hope salgado can convince him to move to rovers then, i think he will finish his career off back in spain though! Why? what's left in Spain that he has not already achieved. Posing in front of the Ewood masses would be the ultimate swansong.
Nelsta Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 just picture it, raul banging one in in the 89th minute....and streams of supporters walking past from the riverside!
67splitscreen Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 just picture it, raul banging one in in the 89th minute....and streams of supporters walking past from the riverside! Walking to the corner hands held aloft bowing in unison to the new King of Ewood Park. Hope they remember to change the words from Shearer.
Uddersfelt Blue Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 just picture it, raul banging one in in the 89th minute....and streams of supporters walking past from the riverside! Behave!!!
Billy Castell Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I suppose any chance we have partially depends on how close he is to Salgado (who'll probably never be dropped if Raul came). It would be something to see an all-time Real Madrid legend play for Blackburn. I can't think of a better veteran star player to go for really. Ruud V-N is not the player he was, Drogba is totally unrealistic, Klose only plays for Germany, and Luca Toni has just moved .
Stuart Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 just picture it, raul banging one in in the 89th minute....and streams of supporters walking past from the riverside! Oh, for the days debating the Riverside stand. Fond memories...
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Just the kind of player we need to boost season ticket sales and make people take notice.Maybe his best days are behind him but still a quality player who would stand out like a sore thumb in our present side. WE CAN BUT DREAM.
Stuart Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Agreed SG194. It would be amazing. Really can't see it though. Surely Spurs or someone would be in like Flynn. That's not even considering the Malaga link.
alexanders Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Raul maturing in 2012 might leave Schalke 04 by untied. Former Madrid fans earn 7 million per season and the German club does not seem willing to renew the agreement under the same conditions in place
Stuart Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Sorry Alexanders. I don't understand a word if that! Maybe it's me.
alexanders Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 If I understand correct he might leave Schalke 04 on a free after the season in 2012 because they are not willing to renew his £70k p/w contract. Which also might mean they will try to sell him this summer instead of risking losing him on a free. Which seems accurate since he signed 28 of June 2010 according to Wiki. Translate from a spanish article: Schalke 04 will consider whether it is economically feasible to renovate exmadridista Raul Gonzalez, whose contract expires in 2012, according to sports daily reported today "Sport Bild". Schalke's sporting director Horst Heldt, Germanic recognized publication that does not fit between his desire "to let go of Raul", 34, star of the team, but acknowledged that before extending his contract next summer, will assess what is the best interest of the entity. "Also in the issue we must decide what Raul sports and financially more interesting for the team," Heldt said in reference to more than seven million euros charged by the exmadridista season. This medium has already published in July, according to unconfirmed sources within officially the entity intends not to renew Raul, who was the team's top scorer last season with 19 goals and has the sympathy of the fans. The Spanish soccer team arrived in Gelsenkirchen last season, with the help of then club coach, Felix Magath, and since signing for the Bundesliga international standing. With the relief of the technician by Ralf Rangnick, mid-season, the situation has completely changed for Raul, who no longer enters the current coach's future plans for their lead. Spanish Rangnick considers that it lacks "spark" to play the point and aims to "rejuvenate" the squad, a move that affects other figures of Schalke 04, as Christoph Metzelder (30 years) and Mathias Schober (35 years). Raul had declared its readiness since last April to extend his contract beyond 2012, and in the German media had ensured that it was negotiating the renewal with the club.
Stuart Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Thanks. It does sound like he may well leave. But can he be convinced to come to Rovers? Between Belaji and Michel, I suppose it's possible...
alexanders Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 It might be possible. We were ready to spend those amount on wages for Jermaine Jones and Roque Santa Cruz last year. Salgado might talk him into joining the club. He might want to play in EPL before ending his career. He would be an amazing signing. I wasnt aware that he had 19 goals last season and that was for a struggling Schalke side!
Stuart Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 The more I think about it, the more the signing of Raul could turn things around for Venkys completely. But it has to be their money and not borrowed against the club...
